That's impressive, especially for a home that size.

Only took a 1/2 a cord of wood a day to do it too!

A quick tip in case you like your undies white, you can fill the tank up with water b4 cutting and it won’t blow up. Never just purge with air though as that can actually make a bigger boom if the original gas isn’t fully purged.....

Thanks Charles, we’ll take them. A lot of moving pieces for last couple months and next few going forward.

I’ll say this transition of looking forward with oldest starting to visit colleges and now having to have a heavier hand in taking care of my parents is overwhelming at times. Just trying to do what is right and navigate all these waters while staying sane! It’ll all work out, no doubt there is a plan.

Well, were in contract negotiations on selling our home. I think God willing that will be finalized in the AM tomorrow as we're close now.

Prior to putting Dad in a Nursing home we had a difference of opinion with the first builder we had choose for the next home. Long story short they took our money and couldn't communicate so in the end they decided to cancel the contract and not deal with me. What can I say, communications aren't that hard and if you don't have your act together I will be an over the top PIA until you submit or get your crap together. They submitted, which upset the wife at the time but per the norm it is in his hands and not ours.

After placing Dad in a home, Mom being admitted to the hospital while I was back & then the first build falling apart we kept researching new builds. During this process we ran across a home with a separate garage and entry into a MIL suite. It is connected to main house but gives us some distance under same roof. I went back to Mom and discussed the option of having her move west again (I told her now was the time if she wanted to reconsider) and after some thought with her health issues she decided that would be best.

New home will be complete around June of 19 and we will move Mom here next summer. We signed doc and deposit on that this afternoon along with Lot selection. Still in hippy land but a couple miles west towards the Mountains from where we are now.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Problem is when I go to events like that I spent way too much at the snack bar. Just can't say no to the nachos and hot dogs!

We got a few inches of snow. Its heavy wet stuff. Not too cold out. In the teens. It's just a pain. Makes everything not work right feeding cattle and getting stuck in it. The snow plow went by at least. Now it's still coming down slowly and blowing.

Well, we stayed away from snacks etc but afterwards I bought a meal fit for a king and trust me it was just as expensive as the snack bar or more but better quality food.

if you are talking about building a swappable motor while you drive it, don't you have a high dollar built cummins just sitting there?  was that cummins not built for pure power, or am I missing something completely here?

by no means am I trying to throw you off your intended course, just a question that was going thru my grey matter.

Boss, needs to suck it up and just finish SQ D & add it to the fleet. Why don’t you go pick that up Nate and drag it back to Norm?  I heard thru grapevein he was still willing to get it running..

I’m kinda the opposite, he should keep it closer to stock and drive it. Let’s face it the last build didn’t get completed because his priorities changed, boys got older and he has this farm. Now he added wood heat which will consume more time than he may realize. Keep the thing closer to stock and use and abuse it. He doesn’t need another toy he still has cmax & sq d (which will need parted out at some point too btw) more man hours.

You sure 2" is big enough? :rollseyes

Well I was going to use 1.5 however HD was missing some parts in stock. 2 inch goes 20 ft to a large splitter box where it will go 3 directions for now in 1 in with the availability to add more 1 in routes if needed so 2 in really isn’t a big deal over 1.5

I also despise fighting to pull wire, we used to do the big cable with a forklift at my last place of employment....

I need a 3/4 in bit & found I have a brand new bit so gtg there.

Pulled panel cover off and started running 2 in but alas no large sheet metal screw to tie hangers to wall.....

& yes for the record working on electrical with an aluminum later is not osha approved. Also for the record my shop is too dangerous for osha so I do not allow them in my shop! :beercheers:

Find the safety books, 5 of them and they double shipped each one. Maybe they’re trying to tell me something?

Then, apparently I opened up the wrong side of the bolt box because the install instructions were buried at the bottom.  So a little studying tonight, I have a medium size corded hammer drill. Not sure if I have large enough bit and may just rent from hd & large drill instead. We’ll see, I then ran to HD and picked up 100 ft of 1 in EMT & 20 ft of 2 in. Will come out of main box with 2 in to a junction box then run 1 in 3 or 4 separate runs around shop.

If you stand up from the trailer with a fulcrum (blocks of wood) under its midpoint, that’s cheating. Like some dude rockin back and forth with too much weight on the curl bar at the gym...

Lay them flat on the concrete first and then let’s see that manhood.....

And you know I’m capable of shipping whiskey...

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Like Ken stated yesterday “I’m not that dumb!”

70% of the weight is in bottom 4 foot, blocks are 32 inches from ground.

Back in my 20’s I would load Dana 60’s & 70’s from flat off the ground into my F250 pretty often. However, I’m not 20 & these are quite a bit heavier than the 70’s....

& I know you ship whiskey!

Then ended here after removing two 50 gallon drums worth of cardboard and packaging. Also texted Ken trying to get him to wager whether I can stand these two uprights vertical with nothing but my manly physique. I even offered him a video of me doing so from my best side and really surprising me he still declined. He did request if this goes sideways for video of said catastrophe... here I was hoping for a bottle of some Arizona made whiskey and no such luck.

And I found plenty of Don’s Christmas present as packaging which I boxed up figured he could use some dry wood more than I can....

Gentlemen, I think I have officially moved to a higher level of DOTing. Big D doesn’t fire me anymore you see & rarely responds to my comments. Then again maybe I’ve been fired permanently? Don, first year firewood issue is the norm not the exception. You definitely will be a pro after this first winter just hang in there & sounds like Duane is a great resource. If any questions about first year heating with wood just ask Ashley about green wood...

Normally I had my cords split and stacked for drying by no later than June 1st in NE IN. Now full logs may need cut to length a full year ahead. If the ash is standing and no bark cut it and burn it, it’s gtg right now FYI. For large diameter trees that were downed in a wind storm etc years ago and not cut they can still hold quite a bit of moisture in them. Again ask Ashley if questions about river bottom oaks he was trying to burn.

One other tip, there is a tool (I never bought one cause I’m cheap) that will tell you moisture content of wood. I think it’s like a scanner or something, it would have saved me a lot of trouble had I bought one my first year heating with wood. Just a thought....

And for all you clowns who sell green wood as if it’s dried and ready to burn go pound sand....

My first shop I had a 3’ vent sticking out of roof & it didn’t clear the peak. One evening I fired up the stove which I got going initially with used motor oil, a rag and the oxy torch. So after getting it initially going went into house to do some paperwork until shop got up to temp. As I’m sitting there a police officer walks up my drive past the dining room window (aka my office) and I throw boots on to go out & see what’s up. Next thing I know here comes the ladder truck....

Moral of story use a taller stack or don’t live on a state highway!

Who rides a horse to Walmart?  Do you tie it up at a bike stand? Do you put a lock on your saddle?

Dave, in Amish country Indiana / Ohio at all the businesses they had places to tie up horses & buggies.

When I was 18 I was driving us20 thru Mishawaka IN. At around 1 am doing 60 & coming around a big S curve approaching a stop light. There was a van in the left turn lane stopped and I had the green light. Out of corner of my eye I thought I saw movement just left of that van so I took foot off brake and hovered it over the brake pedal. Drunk Amish guy was letting his horse get him home. Unfortunately said horse didn’t stop for the red lights. I locked up the brakes and skidded quite a ways narrowly missing the horse and buggy.
