What are you building? / Re: Dave’s house
« on: November 22, 2018, 09:25:37 PM »
Yep, unless the parts are cut with a special laser using a special gas mix the cut edge is left with a thin oxide layer that nothing sticks to.

That mixture is 100% straight nitrogen

4653
Ken, the flip side is there isn’t bad publicity if you run your business correctly. What this will tell potential wholesale vendors is we keep our word and won’t steal your designs....

4654
It’s gotten better Dave, come to find out this guy is posting on my sale threads as if I stole his designs. I reported him to the mods there & posted up all the details in the vendors only section as well so all the vendors can see what a dill rod this guy is....

I’ve had guys steal my designs and threaten to sue me in the past too. Actually they threatened my wife via a phone call. I called them back and explained how a lawsuit & open check book works with an attorney. Think my last statement was telling them to go for it & we’ll see how deep your pockets are in fact. That pretty much ended that conversation. Kinda like the saying where I’m not afraid of the guy who talks about kicking my rear I’m afraid of the guy who never says a word & comes up & busts me in the mouth.

Very nice Jon! I normally deep fry a turkey and the wife told me no to the dismay of our kids...…

Apparently I have upped the ante though as she had it in a brine all night and is now injecting it with enough butter and heart attack inducing compounds to kill a small army!

I believe what is left is just the milscale

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Millscale is whats on the sheet surface, the cut edge is what I was talking about. Problem is if you don't remove it prior to painting it will flake off with the paint later. Millscale not so much....

4657
Just when I thought I'd have been put in every situation in business I get one coming at me from left field. At this point in my life I would think that most things wouldn't surprise me but then you have "people"...…

So the back story is I have wholesaled steel components (parts etc) for 20 years give or take. I have been in the off road market for just about as long. So last night I log onto PBB and it had been a couple weeks. I received a message from another vendor who I know. He sells disc conversion kits soley, when he started selling he sold kits built by a long time wholesale customer of mine.

GLO always sold disc brake kits, my kits and my design. Paul 15 years or so ago through a mutual friend approached me wanting to buy components. We came to an agreement (simple word of mouth) and I sold him parts and he produced kits. As time went on I started selling his kits for him as his only seller and he would package and ship. Then one day he started wholesaling his kits to another guy aka this vendor who decided to message me on PBB. It wasn't long and this seller copied all of Paul's parts or mine etc....

I'll post a couple screen shots that will explain the dialogue. However one of Paul's design that we built was a component kit to make the 76-78 caddillac rear ebrake eldorado calipers function properly. We built these for Paul as well just never sold them as to not step on his toes. The reality is the parts weren't really Paul's design as GM had built them and then quit producing them. These kits that I started selling recently individually is what has created this drama.

His message

Looks like he already did that Shawn...maybe

I really like the custom touches Dave .

In the one side picture I could see it still on there which is why I mentioned it.

Dave, if you paint them make sure you wire wheel the cut edge to remove the scale from cutting them that has built up. It will flake off easily...

Negative, that’s a Marlin or a Winchester.....

Had one Henry in 17hmr & didn’t care for the action nor the extra round I was having to stock. So we’re back to .22LR & Mag only on the small side.

The way it worked with my daughters were they had to memorize the NRA’s 10 commandments of gun safety. So that took like a whole half hour. After that being there were three of them only one shot at a time and Dad was range master / instructor who secured ammo at all times. To this day they will correct each other at the range & it’s always a competition to see who has tightest groups.

One of my favorite pics from our farm in Indiana about 6 years ago.

You'd laugh at the way I put up the first one, before getting a forklift.  All I had was the little NH tractor...wait..I should say,  I was lucky to have a tractor.  I got the hoist up as high as it would go,  which was about a foot too short...so I did what any guy would do, drive the tractor up on railroad ties, with 4x4s stacked on top of them. Not too sketchy.  Lol

I normally do too but the length concerned me (with my tiny equipment) and I have a neighbor with a forklift I can rent for a case of beer. So delivering it (free shipping btw was advertised) to my shop seemed too easy.

It gets better, summit just called to say they’d wave those fees

Thanks Summit Racing, appreciate it now that I spent hours of my life trying to work this out with you and already have it taken care of. The other part I didn’t mention was yrc was going to start charging me for it sitting on their dock. Normally freight companies limit you to 3 days. Yrc understood my situation and bent over backwards for me at 1.5 weeks holding it.

Praying that trailer doesn’t break

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, I did ALOT of thinking about how to block this to haul it. For the record it hit 70 on that trailer.

The rear of the trailer was my biggest concern, I was actually more concerned with bending the back 2x3 tube cross member under the rear. So I ran a 4x4 across from side to side at the rear to help that 2x3 with some extra support. The front is fine with the tube side rail & a frame for the hitch (lots of support there). So by running that 4x4 across to the outside which is strengthened with the tube side rails (think box truss design) I spread the load. I figured worse case that back 2x3 cross member would bend and I’d have to cut it out and patch in new.

I’ve had 3200 lb of steel on 2 wooden skids on that trailer with no issue btw.

Ok, 2 post lift in my shop as of 6am this morning. I’m a little irritated at Summit Racing at the moment. With everything going on in past 2 weeks this being delivered turned into a huge monkey on my back. From the get go Summit knew I wanted this delivered to my shop not my billing address (which in this case was my house).

This BendPak lift shipped from manufacturer with no notice of when it was to be delivered (I blame summit for poor communication). Summit set it up per YRC to be delivered to my home. Of course it arrived when I was out of state dealing with mom’s and pops. Get back this week and spent several days talking to yrc freight (great to deal with btw), BendPak (also great to deal with so far) & summit racing (a** clowns). Long story short summit tried to charge me an extra $272.00 to deliver unit to my shop less than 5 miles from home and 4 miles closer to interstate. YRC freight laughed when I asked if that was an additional charge from them, it was not and they don’t operate that way.

I will not be dealing with summit going forward. Both BendPak and YRC were more than willing to help however they could. Summit, wanted to extort money from me after I spent several K with them.

So I got up at 4 today to beat traffic and traveled 45 mins to east side of Denver. Hauled this lift on my 8 foot 3500lb trailer all 13 foot of it. Used engine hoist to get it unhooked from 4Runner as trailer jack is inoperable with lift up against it.
