JR, I think it needs a diet myself. Much of it is overkill, could easily drop 30# & be just as strong imo.

Which brings up weight again & I'm conscious of it as is Norm..... so we have two types of weight really. Unsprung & gvw.

In layman’s terms gvw is important for running obstacles, highway mpg and the beating this little pig of a motor takes.

Unsprung comes into play when you’re looking again at the abuse this pig takes spinning the wheels, going over obstacles & fuel mileage. The one thing most don’t think about is tire balance, using these beadlock wheels & balancing beads with 38.5 10 ply tires can be an issue at highway speed. Those tires sidewalls are not going to want to give much. If they don’t give then it’s possible on light jeeps at highway speed to have issues due to uplift (think that’s a pilut term) & without give in the tires the beads can’t find their perfect pocket for balance.

So then having a certain amount of spring and unsprung weight will be helpful especially on the front end.

Yeah, it’s a balancing act.....

Shawn is the hexagonal piece a spring perch?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

correct, lower coil spring mount.

in bottom pic you have that lower coil spring mount then you have the lower sway bar mount just in front of that and then to the right is the track bar axle mount. On the other side out of view (I'll get other pics today) is the shock mount which sits directly above the lower control arm axle mount.

And yes it’s about time. I have the new tires and the inserts for the border patrol wheel due into me by weeks end. So things are progressing quicker now. The last of the parts for this front axle were ordered this week other than brakes and adjustable upper control arms which I will need to get the alignment close once I install this beast.

GLO also landed a job building two axles for a custom defender 90. It’s going to essentially be an EB setup under a European frame and body. The front axle is a built narrowed HP Dana 60 kingpin axle and the rear is a built 9” both are stock width early bronco with the 5 on 5.5 wheel mounts. So I need my table back for those builds as well.

Back on to the welding on the 60 front, as of late this afternoon 90% is welded. I ground out one crappy housing weld then rewelded it after the preheat process. Welded it and hit it with the air needler and then did a post heat finally covering it and a couple other new welds into the cast. All brackets with the exception of a the passengers side lower control arm are welded on in some fashion. I made a new passengers side lower inner C fixture as I need to remove the original passengers side fixture under the tube in order to get that control arm mount in place. I wanted the rest of the welding complete before I removed that though. Tomorrow I should get the last of it welded and that mount in place. I'll let it cool overnight tomorrow too and then pull it from the fixture and flip it half around and upside down to do the last few welds I cannot get at without standing on my head currently. At this point I really doubt it will move at all anyhow.

Do you really think they would use that WiFi name??

How do you like that 365? That is one of the few 9mm that really has me thinking. Need to be creative to get it here though, but it can be done legit.

JR - I really like the 365 so far. Compact and light. 12 rounds of 9mm. Shoots extremely well even with a novice like me. I checked several casing and I didn't see any of the pin drag on the primer that seems to be the Youtube rage. After I change the mag release button and get more time on it I will let you know if that changes. I paid $519.00 and an extra $43.00 for the 12 round mag. I had sold my Sig 232 380ACP to change to this.  :likebutton:

380 up to a 9mm sounds like a great move

Looks like I found a home for my mom. Very nice newer place and I took her there after I toured it. Nice studio with a kitchenet (microwave but no cooking), walk in shower and can even have small pets. Meals are cooked to order like a restaurant which was a biggy for me.

About $3500 a month which is actually low in the state and nearby (closer than her house). I need to work on veterans spouse aid which could be around 1200/month. My dad was a career marine serving in both Korea and VN. With that, her current $2000 income we would have to sell the house and invest the proceeds. Figure around $250K clear would net 1500-2000 a month and even add to the till with spending cash. Right now I need to finalize the power of attorney and trust which I already run.

This has been on my mind for some time now and it is time, even she said so. We see the Dr next week for the form she needs but that should be a breeze.

Those tiles look great!

Yep, its been about the $$ for some time now. Unless you are illegal or have lots of $$.

Not easy stuff JR, finalizing my moms trust now which the assets I have been managing for last two years. Had a scare with her a couple weeks ago and it was nice knowing I had all the necessary medical documents in hand. My Dad’s trust and medical docs where completed twelve to fourteen years ago and he has managed it thus far but docs are sitting in back of safe if needed.

« on: August 21, 2018, 08:22:26 AM »
The other thing I’m going to question is why AAM puts the BJ’s in the inner C versus the knuckle? After all many of these engineers who went to AAM were former Dana guys from what I heard when AAM was launching hard. Dana presses the BJ’s into the knuckles, so if you screw one up you buy a new knuckle which isn’t welded in place.

5175
JR, Charles was ribbing Don there a bit I believe.

Powerplant, Driveline, and Braking / Re: 2003 Ram 2500 front diff

Or just weld on a new inner c versus whole housing swap. I’d try laying a bit of weld in there & get largest OD sanding drum that still fits the hole to profile weld out with a die grinder. Using a small diameter bit would make it much more difficult to profile correctly. Good luck either way!

I'd PM Tate and see if he has any ideas. If there is a larger BJ he might know of it as Randy's sells them (where I bought mine for my SD 60 build).

I have trouble thinking that peening will hold with the loctite. We used to do this to scissor lift table legs when we'd wipe out an insert when boring them to salvage a couple hundred dollar set of parts. It was a band aid at best in my opinion for those parts.

Did they screw up the whole socket or just one side? If it was just one side wondering if you couldn't lay a little weld in there and die grind it back close enough to press joint back in? If you have a 1/16" of play thinking you could minimize that some.

We have a small chalk board in the kitchen, the intent was to help a busy family communicate a little better with three teenage girls always going separate directions.

So that never really worked, however it has had some very inspiring quotes written upon it on occasion. My favorite was probably the one left by my 16 year old xj driving daughter.

Charles, I get it.

I've had several run ins with the local guys lately along with my barber and now a neighbor who is a retired captain of another pd had an issue as well recently. None of us go out of our way to call the PD or to give them grief. Frankly I don't call the police for a reason.

All I'm saying is it goes a longs ways not to screw with the tax payers who are law abiding citizens and paying your fing salary. I mean this is your job and you would think you could do as I can and read someones body language etc. along with their comments. It especially would go a long ways not to step on my property when I've done nothing wrong and blow me sh*t. I realize the patrol guys run into a lot of crap and I appreciate what they do however don't pick fights with the guy sitting at home at 10 pm minding his own business. This guy isn't about to back down to stupid especially at 10pm, go harass some other knucklehead.

For the record the insurance / ticket thing happened a year ago right about the time we had a new chief instated, since then crime has gone up and I'm wearing boots now so I don't step in the crap as it's starting to get deep around here and we all know how I like my sandals! Maybe she 'er the chief needs to step it up..... Rant off

Got the bucket to fit a little tighter, and cut off the bad section on the bottom to make way for some 1/2" thick wear bars. (just mild steel)

Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Hard face rod? Mild steel not an issue if you plan on laying surface welds over it some.

Btw, my welding was getting really questionable before I bought glo back. Once I did I bought a new helmet, didn’t realize how bad or non operational my old helmet had become. It wasn’t my welding it was I couldn’t see!

Most of those welds don’t look too shabby, just grind out some of that chicken crap and run over the worst parts again.
