Wow!
I've been right over that spot, maybe twenty-thirty times. Not far from J-Bad

Sure looks nice. Makes me want land with trees again. Nice work on the mill base.
Are you going to try to construct a mill shelter first thing?

That building is not a critical structure. I figure there will be a learning curve with regards to the new saw. Couple that with the fact that I want to get a roof overhead that expensive saw, and that's the reason for the building

Know what the number 7 is?
It is the number of God. Associated with God, and things holy. Seven candles and seven lampstands in Revelations. Forgive someone seven times seventy, and on and on
Get this
I just did the math to confirm something I heard
President Trump, on the day he was sworn in as President of the United States was...
This is too good
He was 70 years, 7 months, and 7 days of age
70 - 7 - 7
He was inaugurated at 0900 PST. I am trying to find out what hour he was born to see if he was also 7 hours old.
You just can't make up stuff like this
Praise the Lord, Glory be to God in heaven above!

I just love this!
Christians consecrate and celebrate special occasions with prayer
That's what I see happening here
What a change from our sorriest eight years ever!

I really like it down there this time of year when things are blossoming. The woods are filled with Red Bud trees

Next step is to bring down the sawmill tracks and mount them to the rails, then fasten the rails to the cross braces

While Mr. C and I were working on the saw mill base, the kids were working on the barn. The mission for them is to tear the thing down, saving as much wood as possible. They got one wall and part of another done

I attached 2X4 and 2X6 cross beams to opposing posts to allow me to adjust for the final width and fit of the mill tracks
18311
« on: April 14, 2017, 09:31:54 PM »
Then cut the posts off, using the 6X6 as a guide for the saw
18312
« on: April 14, 2017, 09:30:50 PM »
From this point I leveled two 6X6X20 PT pine beams on either side of the uprights, and marked the poles for cutting

First pic is one day old concrete.
Second is the dry stuff with a bit of water having just been poured on it.
Third Pix is about 10 minutes later. The post is completely rigid in this pic. No way could you budge it at all!

The process was simple, but did require some heavy lifting. The post hole digger kept finding rocks which had to be hand dug before pressing forward. I went for an average hole depth of around 24" give or take. With the hole cleaned of loose dirt, I'd pour in some water followed by half a bag of crete, then set the post. A bit more water, then another bag of crete, more water, then finish off with bag number three. This concrete mixture is made to pour into the hole dry around a post, then add water to the top. This concrete sets up fast. Like as in five minutes to 10 minutes!
I mean Hard concrete in 10 minutes!!
Who invented this stuff anyway???

With the posts in hand and the locations of the post holes laid out, it was time to drill some holes

My brother inlaw is stripping the bark off the posts with that cool tool that gets bolted to a modified chainsaw guide. It does a massively quick job of stripping away the bark and pulpy wood to get the post down to the good stuff

From now on, I'll be building primarily with salvaged, recycled, or home made materials. Looking at this place as some big ongoing experiment, I want to constantly push the bounds as to what one can do with as little as possible.
The posts going in the ground just came out of the ground near here a year ago:

Praise the Lord for he is great. He is our everything, our hope, our foundation, our guiding light in a dark night and our life boat in the stormy seas we find ourselves.
The time is now to imprint Psalm 91 onto your heart. Look not to earthly answers or news or people, but instead put your left in front of your right and proceed forward in faith. Walk in faith...Really. You have to extend beyond your understanding and know that there is a net below you, and know that he who finds shelter in the house of the most high will rest in the shadow of the almighty.
Praise him every day of your life and walk in faith. Hard times are coming, but God will not allot the feet of the faithful to strike a stone in the path that lies ahead...
He orders the steps of the righteous...So be sure to be one of the righteous!

I'm sorry to hear this. Did Caleb know our Lord? Is he dancing with him this very moment :-) ?
I somehow think that he did,
Amidst the sorrow, try and not focus on our loss, but instead on his gain!
Glory! Glory!
Don, I would like to believe he knew our Lord and is now getting to know Him better than we here on earth can. He was raised on The Word for sure, and his parents provided him all the "tools" to have a strong walk with God.
Being around him I always felt inspired. Even with through his struggles with MD he never showed weakness mentally or spiritually. Seeing him reminded me that no matter the problems I was facing I could overcome them as long as I accept that God has the master plan, as he had. I thank God for the years that he blessed our lives with Caleb, and for the lessons that God taught me through him.
Thank you all for your prayers and kind words. They are much appreciated. God Bless.
He's dancing, man...

Put a new seat in the excavator except they forgot to send the mounting brackets. Changed oil and filters. Changed all the filters and oil in the dozer. That was a challenge. Not familiar with that equipment but got it done. That excavator is a large piece of equipment but when you get it in the shop it just looks massave.
Did a test burn on the cooker. It failed. I do need a heat deflector. I figured I would but didn't do it. I need a damper too. The beer can did help. This was a gas water heater so where the can is was the chimney. My biggest screw up was using diesel to burn it out. I wanted to get it real hot to burn the oil off. Should have used gas like I usually do. Diesel left black soot. Now I have to power wash it out.

Wood Maxx? that thing is still an infant. I might have to take back what I said about how long the knives will last. Don't try to over feed it or the damage list will be growing.
OK, I'll take it easy on it for a short time But Ken says I can mix concrete with it!

Don't worry Wilbur, I'm just waiting for "Mr Piluuut" to get the hair brained idea of using the new chipper as a cement mixer.
Can it mix concrete too? With different knives installed???

I am not sure you want to set that mill on green timbers. If the mill has to stay level, how do you plan on keeping the timbers staying straight while they are drying out? Also, ran into a guy while up hunting, he was running a mill on his place with many piles of logs sitting around. All the log ends were painted with lots of different colors. I had to ask, his comment was, paint the ends up good and it cuts down on the cracking while they are drying out, paint is paint color doesn't matter.
The mill tracks are set on adjustable height feet. Take a look back in the assembly thread. So plan is to dig the holes, place in cedar posts on top of concrete, and surrounded by concrete and let that all set up. Come back with a laser or water level and saw off the timbers to the uniform height. Bolt a single 6 X 6 X 20 ontol each run and finally set the mill on that. I'll do final leveling of mill tracks with the laser level and start sawing up my little slice of the planet

This may look like a three vehicle pileup, but in reality it is just aircraft carrier style parking mangement
Does the HH6 GJ have to park out on the street now? That is equipment creep.
Holy crap...That's a lot of Dottin! Secondly, should-ah-bin first, welcome to red neck numba deux! (Should-ah-bin...That could be some Haji's real name...;-) Mohammad should-ah-bin...) Lastly, yea, there are some serious over-crowdin' like conditions in the GJ garage. But to the Mrs, it doesn't matter. She'd just push whatever it is out of the way...Jeep bumpers are meant for pushing things, right! Well guess this thread is shot all to he!!, guess I'll get started on something else...let you gossipers hack away at any credibility remaining here...

It's still proving itself a more capable machine. The wood chipper pallet weighed over 1100 lbs. Tractor grunted, but lifted it. And that was with those hefty pallet forks

And the base of the feed chute. The bigger part of it is unassembled and sitting in the front of the crate.

It showed up today!
Arrived in the middle of a rain storm.
I used the new Deere 2720 tractor to pull it out of the truck and move it to the garage where it will be assembled and fitted to the tractor, then taken to das farm.
It comes in an angle iron crate and it is HEAVY!

I'm a bit concerned about Putin's assertion to consider another of our attacks as an attack on russia and to be prepared to retaliate with tactical nukes.
If he distributes those to the artillery commanders, that would be a game changer. No telling where that might end...

Don I'm jelly. Very nice. I think you had asked a question about concrete tube forms some where. I apologize for failing to respond. Would you repeat the question ?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think I figured it out... I was inquiring about how much concrete per sonotube. I rethought my project. About how I want to erect this building at the lowest possible cost. I was going to bore 8 holes with 8" sonotubes inserted and filled with quickcrete, for the stanchions for the sawmill mount. But now I think I'll bore the holes, insert Cedar logs, backfill with quickcrete and call it a day. Then level and cut off the log bases and mount a 6X6X20 onto the poles and bolt the saw to that. So I'm good...

Yes, Ken, Cedar...which up to this point was a pest plant and or future fence posts
This mill changed that up for sure!
