Sam, my hearing doc told me the 357 is the hardest on the hearing of most any caliber. I can hardly hear without aids and they only help a little.
Funny part is, with all the shooting I have done, the 357 is probably the least shot of anything in the safe. Hearing protection is a great thing to use but in my younger years hardly anyone wore them including me. Can’t say my hearing is gone because of shooting but it didn’t help.

If you were to choose corned beef instead the process changes.

Where I drained and filled with fresh water you would instead put the corned beef into a pot.

Cover with water and then bring to a boil.
It is cooked in water and then is done.

Pastrami is smoked.

I used sirloin tip instead of brisket.
Some may shun me for that.
It works with most cuts. Trying sirloin this time.

Food Preparation and Cooking Techniques / Corned Beef and Pastrami

So. As some of you may have noticed, a couple weeks ago I made some ham.
Once I wrapped that up, I broke down a sirloin tip.
It went into a pickle and today it becomes pastrami.

Now for those unaware.
Pastrami is smoked corned beef, well smoked, uncooked corned beef.

Here it is being broken down.

Much to my dismay here is the next picture.
It spent about 10 days in the pickle.
Last night drained it off and added fresh water to desalinate it some.
Today it’s in the smoker to cook.

It’s chilly today and the smoker needs some insulation. Current air temp about 25, but a good breeze killing the temps.
I’ll have a delicious smelling packing blanket later.

Do you, in your opinion think I should put something like that on my Dually which I am using as a camper dolly this summer?

Highly subjective, I know, but it is actually just insurance and removes the gamble of getting disabled in the middle of nowhere, but costs me $3500 and adds 200 pounds of weight.

Very short answer is yes.
A buddy of mine hit a small doe with his newish Chevy. Front right corner.
Took out radiator, trans cooler, bumper bits, signals, grill, and whatever else.
Disabled on highway.
Out of truck for over a month.
I’m considering adding the extra protection to mine when I redo the raptor.

That and Shawn spot on with reaction time and eyesight fading with time.

That is a nice piece there chief.
Thank ya!

It's my second as I have stated, and like, everyone I know also has one...

You probably have one too, right?

It would be a great gun for you and for what you do. Magnum handgun and all that. Btw, my first magnum handgun was actually a S&W .41 magnum in blued steel. That was a darned powerful shooter in its own right. I purchased it to take whitetail but sold it before I ever hunted with it.
I have a blued 686 in 357 magnum with the 6” barrel.
Yep. We’ve all got one. lol.

Not to rub in the age card but it’s my thread so I will. Our reaction time isn’t what it used to be and that’s a heavy rig to stop on a dime.

I'm on a fixed income, this is killing me. Sure I get little cola raises, but with inflation of 20% or more, 2-3% goes backwards. Plus the supply chain issues (the say) is keeping prices high with demand/supply doing its this.

With traveling up in that area before, I would say yes. Cheap insurance to save a vacation

Yes, my retirement account took a beating and only recently started showing gains again. I will be able to retire 5 years after I'm dead
