Does your department allow aftermarket triggers?

It's a little glocky if you get my drift but we will fix that... Yes on the aftermarket triggers...

I handled three different ones today... The mags have a lot of drag to them on insertion. But being that my primary purpose is for backup, not primary carry, it'll be alright

Your department is much nicer than most.

Then you know the drill.  A dremel and jewelers rouge and then a ghost disconnect of choice.

Put 500 rds through this AM no issues. 400 nato 124 gr white box, and 100 135 gr Hornandy flex lock.

The full size sights are like eye candy and the sight radius lends it to minute of ass hole accuracy all day long.

In a smaller, weaker hand the weapon would have some muzzle keep down issues but as long as you aren't transitioning to "Caitlyn" you should be just fine- however a lighter duty household six might want to run some lighter loads.

This being said- for 100 rds of the 400 I attempted to manufacture failures. Even single handed limp wristing it the 124 nato hb's cycled through without hiccup. The slide lock is low profile enough even with my bear hands smothering it, I couldn't induce an unintended lock back.

Two notes-
While the trigger claims to be a standard 5.5, breaking through it would take some getting used to. I think a little polish job would lend it to be on par with all other standard Glock triggers. I can best describe it as a spring loaded glass punch. Press press press crack! Reset is much the same.

On inserting mags- driving mags home, one must make sure they positively push to the click. There is a little bit of drag along the magazine presented by the slim profile and the magazine catch. Due to this the individual who pressed the mag release and immediately lets off, won't be able to clear a mag without a sweep. A full depression of the mag release all the way through the mag drop is required...

The statement, "it runs like every other Glock" is false. However, it does run and runs good!

Ergonomically- the weapon stands out ahead of the other marketed pocket pistols. I like the Glock cant which this retains. Finger falls naturally on to the trigger. Need to stipple an index point however.

For me, NOT an EDC. Capacity is too low, and the G19 ain't broke... This weapon lends itself a handy backup and replacement for my LCP!

Don- did you buy a shield? I have the XDS. I don't think I have ever done a write up on it. Maybe if you write up the shield, I'll pull out the XDS and re-fam with it and write it up.

Maybe start a formatted firearm write up thread?

I have the XDs in 45... i rotate between carrying it and the G19. Want to get a G43 to have a deep concealment 9 of the same platform. I also have the LCP and really only carry it when I'm wearing slacks or have to be deep deep concealed. Hate shooting it...

Thanks for taking the time to write up your range report! And interested to hear your thoughts G43 vs XDS...

At full auto, did it still qualify as minute of a.. hole accuracy?

Yep, bought a shield

She was carrying the M&P9C and was used to the ergonomics and the gun never malfunctioned for her. She has put maybe 2K of mostly 115 and 124 ball through it, but always complained it was too heavy to carry in her purse. I didn't care until I started noticing her leaving the thing all over the house here and going into the city daily unarmed.

You may recall I purchased two Kahr single stack 9mm based on a couple cop friends recommendations, but after shooting those guns, I think my friends have been hit in the head too many times. Those Kahr pistols were awful. No reset and trigger pull, all 6" of it was long and gritty.

I sold both of them then turned around and picked up the shield which she is liking so far...and the gun travels once again!

Good idea on standardizing weapon evals.

Come up with what you think and we'll look it over and schmooze or adopt as is

Once format is adopted, I'd do the XDs in .45 as the difference between 9mm might be noteworthy.

Likewise, I could do a side-by-side comparison with the XD(M), Colt Gold Cup and XDs and a SW 645 in .45 - if anyone is interested.

I have the LCP, Keltec PF9, XDS45 (3.1) and now the MP40 compact.

I have qualed with them all right out of the box. I default to the 40 for backup, jmho.

We already have a Firearms forum, why not just add "reviews" to the header and make them stickies as posted?

Lets do a single thread

Call it something like Firearms test and eval or "Real-Man gun test" or something else.

You guys pick the proper name

Have HC, Fred, Mikey, Bobby, someone come up with the criteria we will test every weapon

Every time someone evaluates a weapon like my new shield, I would enter the information in that thread in sequence. Think about not taking comments or questions so we aren't off discussing some recipe in the middle of the thread, just good concentrated, focused gun eval stuff

We can sticky that thread and keep all the gun reviews together. When it gets up to say a hundred guns or so, we'll start gun review #2, a second sticky

What do you all think of that idea?

I'd defer to those with most experience developing the criteria/format-

Roger on commentary, but there should be a separate (somehow linked) thread for legit questions though.

OK, on the questions thing, but from experience here, I'd say you'd have a zero percent chance of keeping folks on target...like herding cats...

So let's get a format going
Let's do the cut and paste format where you cut the previous entry, make your additions/corrections on your new post with your stuff in some color

Someone like HC or Bobby come up with the format for the test, but I'll start it off here with something to begin with

Follows:
For each area in the objective section, lets give a score from 1-5. For the subjective section where we are actually shooting and evaluating the weapon, assign a 1-10 score. Most things will be subjective. For example looking at a single stack 9mm pistol you find it has a 7 round capacity. Give it a number based on how you think that stacks up against the competition and your experience. A 7 round single stack 9mm might earn a rating of 5 simply because that is a goodly number of rounds and you feel that is about right for a backup weapon. Areas not to be given a numerical score will have a (NS) after the line item.
And zero is not a good thing, a 5 or a 10 is like a shiny gold star!

Objective information, (Score 0-5)
Manufacturer:(NS)
Model Number, Name: (NS)
Caliber:(NS)
Type weapon: Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Black Powder, Other(NS)
Action: Single shot, bolt action, semi-automatic, etc... (NS)
Material Weapon is made of:
Magazine capacity:
Barrel Length:
Rifling info if applicable:
Type sights:
Trigger pull:
Trigger Reset:
Type Safety:
Safety Features: Chamber loaded indicator, safety off indicator, etc
Weight:
Ergonomics/furniture:
Integral Rail System?
How many rounds did you shoot?(NS)
What ammunition did you test with?(NS)
Weather conditions for test:(NS)
Accessories that comes with the weapon as sold new:
Is there a palm swell or other part customizable like the latest gen Glocks or M&P's:

Subjective observations:(Score 0-10)
Handling, how does it fit and feel:
Experience any malfunctions? If so explain.
Ease of loading/reloading:
How did the various controls such as slide release or magazine release operate?
Did the weapon get dirty during the test, and if so any effect?
Comment about the sights:
Ease of field stripping and cleaning weapon:
What other weapon does it compare to such as M&P shield vs Glock 43?
What type holster did you use?
Anything you may have noticed such as "Big muzzle flash" or "very loud" or other observations?
Talk about the accuracy:
Do you feel the weapon is reliable?
Does it have any shortcomings you can detect?
Your overall feelings about the weapon
A one liner. You get to decide. Go or No-Go. You call it. the gun gets a score of 55 but jammed, then you can call it a No-Go.

So once we standardize all this we will get some real gun testing going on from all you real men out there and after a goodly number of reports start to develop a good "Sight picture" (That's for you Mikey) of a particular weapon.

If we do this right, we will really be on to something. We will establish expertise driven by an experience base that should help lots of folks with weapon selection

OK, HC& Bobby, you have the point, but everyone chime in so I can disregard your input and decide what I want instead!!!!!

Seriously let's get to working on this

Would that make it a DOT Free Zone?  You know what happens when you disarm a location....it gets over run and massacred.  There will no doubt be a high capacity DOT attack...

I just picked one up from my buddy yesterday. It's got the tritium from site (Talo edition), and he had the Taran Tactical mag plates put on, one is +1 and the other is +2. Need to get to the range to shoot it!

Will likely replace my XDs as my deep concealment option. Agreed, G19 aint broke  ;)
