Bumper Bike Rack install

(1/3) > >>

Our bikes were just getting the crap beat out of them in the bed of the truck so we ordered a 4" bumper hitch and a Curt bike rack. Easy install, nice and sturdy. When not in use, the rack folds up pretty decently.

And here's a couple photos from last weekends camping trip.

Nice Kyle.  Keep an eye on the rack stem.  The extreme rear of the camper gets a lot of motion and can lead to stress fractures, especially on 1 1/4 inch tube.

I cut the bumper off mine and re-welded a 4x4x 1/4 inch in its place.  Same size as factory but allowed me to weld a 2 inch receiver hitch right to it and a larger bike rack.  I guess I could pull double if I wanted but that's just crazy IMO!

Thanks Charles, I'll keep an eye on it, and report back with upgrades.

The Curt unit is a little heavy, but 1/3 of the price of the similar Yakima unit. And our next 5er will have the slide out platform on the back so we would likely not use this rack then.

At any rate, thanks for the advice!

So that's what a real forest looks like. Nice spot.

That looks an AWFUL lot like the warm beach Christian camp. Tell me you weren't really 2 miles from my house last weekend... oh, and nice bike rack. I'll be doing that before next season for sure w/ Sophie riding like a monster now.
