2.5" Level and 35x12.5R18 Toyo R/Ts
« on: September 22, 2015, 09:46:57 AM »
I finally got around to putting some new rubber on my truck.  So far I'm very happy with these Toyos.  They ride smooth and are very quite for the aggressive tread design.  Time will tell the rest of the story, but they appear to be a great A/T M/T alternative.

That looks really good man... I was seriously eyeballing those R/T's but they don't yet make them in the size i needed.

Keep us updated on how they wear.

Those are Toyo MT's right?

If so, decent tire. I have them on my D-max. Have since 2012. The rear ones get used hard in my truck because of the real locker back there. But I have never been stuck even pulling a trailer around on muddy slopes and trails

Didn't know

Now that's interesting!

Ya see

Big D is lookin' at tires

Thinkin' I could use a bit of a lower gear, so an upsize to a 37"-38" tire interests me...

They apparently have a new compound that wears much better than the MTs

I know someone else that may be looking at tires here shortly. These Grapplers are starting to drive me nuts, even at 35mph. I like the look of those.

These are the R/Ts.  Super quiet so far Ken, can't tell much difference in these and the Firestone Transforce HTs that were on it.  Even my wife commented on how quiet they are.

I'll get some better pics of them for you all.  I ended up buying from treaddepot.com good price and service.

Nice truck.

Thanks Bobby!  It is a work in progress that will take years at this rate, but I'm happy with it so far. My first non-GM truck, but my 2011 gasser was going on it's third motor in under 25k miles.  I decided to head in a different direction.

I should clarify.  The first was rebuilt (new pistons, rings, ect.) due to excessive use of oil.  1.5 t o2 quarts per 1000 miles.  The second was due to technician error.  A snap ring came loose scoring #2 cylinder.  Dealer replaced the entire engine.  After the first oil change on the new motor the oil consumption was back.  1 quart of oil per tank of fuel.

I believe it was tied to displacement on demand.  Have you ever followed a full-sized GM truck or SUV down the highway and seen a puff of smoke when they accelerate after a long down grade or flat section of highway?  Anyway, that 5.3 LOVED oil and I was sick of hearing.  "That's normal for this motor." or "Don't worry about it, it is within spec."  A new truck that burns that much oil doesn't work for me.  I traded for this Cummins and have been very pleased.  These new Ram trucks have come a long way.

I'm a DOT on my own thread!

Here are a few close ups of the tires.  They nearly swallow a dime.

I'd love to get a new Ram. I just like the way they look and the local farmers and cattle haulers around here have all seemed to swap to them.

Now that the 13+ Rams can be tuned and deleted the fun really begins.  I'll start a thread when that build-up/tear-down starts.  Possibly a trans build or replace as well sometime down the road.

Yeah man, those look awesome. If something happened to my LBZ and I had to buy a "new" truck... Those new cummins are sick lookin. Love the front ends with the forward canted grill. And that wheel/tire package looks perfect on there

In in the same boat... It's ether going to be nFabs or Amps. Can't decide!

I'm a fan of the Amp steps too. Just can't run them.
With the mud and ice they hang up most of the year, I don't have them, a couple buddies do.

So if you have the lots of mud issue there's a point to consider.
Guys down south run them with fairly good success, but the winter ice has sent one buddy's off the truck.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

For those in less frigid climes than frozen Sam, the Amp steps I installed a couple years ago are still working like champs!
