Sold the Duramax today. Have mixed feelings. One less payment but it's odd watching your truck drive away with someone else. Didn't quite get what I wanted. Figures the air conditioner would quit now. But I got enough to pay it off and get something decent with the balance.
It served my family for a lot of years. Its time to let it take care of another. Becides that can use the extra cash to clean up some debt.

Nice to have a little extra coin right now, but I hear you letting a friend go.

Dave, you bad dad riding a 3 wheeler. Don't you know the world will end by riding those?

On that note, I let the 12 year old have at the Kub Friday, could hardly reach the peddles but wanted to know where the brake was first thing!

I agree Jr. These things are dangerous.  If you guys see them in your areas, buy them up and send them to me.  I’ll make sure they are taken care of properly

I found this 05 GMC. Near 200,000 miles but real clean. They have it listed at 6k for it but said they would 4k cash. It was raining so I don't have a chance to check everything out like I wanted to. It's going to need tires, the CV joints clicked when I turned the corner in 4x4 but no noise in 2 wheel. The blend door is stuck on defrost.
If I get it I will just throw some P metric tires on it. So I'm looking at a little over $500. CV shaft is like $80 apiece. Blend door is an easy fix. I will go back on Monday and and look at it again.

I use to really like vehicle shopping. After the 5 the test drive I was done.

That 05 would be one of the trucks subject to the transfer case pump rub. Check the back half of the transfer case for a small hole or signs of fluid weeping out. Best I remember the top half of the case is where the rubbing occurred. If it doesn’t have a hole plan on a case rub kit like this one.

https://www.merchant-automotive.com/10001-Transfer-Case-Pump-Upgrade-Kit.aspx

There is a list of affected vehicles under the description/video tab of that link.

Dealing with a heater issue at the house, one of the blowers won’t shut off, I’m thinking a bad blower relay, still trying to narrow it down. Still heating, just continuous blower.

While looking at it, I pulled the cover and noticed there is about 1-1.5 inch gap on either side of the A coil. You can see the air filter down below it. Looks like it might have been replaced at some point. I’m sure this is impacting my efficiency.  Any thoughts on how to fill the gap/with what?

Move the coil to one side and double the gap on the other, fill with sheet metal

Congrats Jon.  Looks like a well maintained truck.

I added a intake and vent fan and wall resister for the central AV closet where the security cameras, server, and other av equipment reside.  It was getting too hot in there and this will keep it cooler.

Then mailed some stuff I sold on fleabay and then started digging a trench for the conduit for the security flood light I put in the tree.

My wife just informed me she dumped 1/2gal of windshield wiper fluid into the cooling system last night I the dark.  Drove to work and back again today before realizing what she did.
Wondering if I need to flush the system now.  Thoughts?  Will it be ok?  Need to flush tonight?  Can it wait until this weekend and a couple more trips?

So she dumped it into the coolant resivor. When I took a look it still looked the same color blue as the fluid so I don't think it mixed with the coolant in the cooling system much.  I pumped everything out of the resivor and topped back off with coolant.  I think it should be fine for a while until I have time to do a full flush.  It is a 2015 nearing 100,000 miles anyway so it could use a flush and new fluid anyway.

I would doubt it would cause any harm being just water/alcohol unless there is Ammonia for the windows.

I would doubt it would cause any harm being just water/alcohol unless there is Ammonia for the windows.

That seemed to be the general consensus from most people when I did a quick google search.  Some were concerned the alcohol would be corrosive and could cause pump and seal issues.  Others said the alcohol would quickly boil leaving just the water behind.  As long as the freezing point of the end solution was low enough for your location it wouldn't be an issue.  Some were concerned the boiling off of the alcohol would create vapor in the system and could cause a pump failure.  Then there was the one person who claimed a gel of some sort was formed when the coolant mixed with the washer fluid but yet everything was still cooling fine?

Hey, maybe the washer fluid will help clean the system... :). And if you were gonna drain it anyway, might not hurt ;)

Spent the weekend in a winter campout with members of the Facebook group "Nebraska preparedness network". I was the only one with a camper...I mean bug out vehicle. We had a lot of fun. It was like Boy Scout scout camp but all adults. They put on some little workshops and some skills testing. I learned a few new things and refreshed my memory on a few others. Best of all I made some new friends.
I was very intrigued by the hammocks  some guys used. So simple. Everyone that had  hammocks said they would never sleep in a tent again.
