congrats!  Is this #1?
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

No, it was an uncomplicated flavor profile with just loads of heat.  People confuse heat with taste.

I agree. I hate when they make it "super hot" but no flavor. I don't mind extra heat if there's some flavor involved.

Also congrats on the baby.  :likebutton:

Built a platform for the new hot tub to sit on. My patio has settled a little so not quite level. Not really sure what we're going to do about it....it's a small patio and all we use it for is the hot tub and my charcoal grille (so we may do nothing). But I still want the hot tub level. So I used 4 4x4's, screwed 6" lag bolts to the 4 corners, decked it with 5/4 decking. Now I can level it with the high lift on the lags as needed if the patio settles any more. But dang it was cold. 20 degrees and constant 20+ mph wind. I was freezing. Got it done which was good as my toes were froze solid about 1/2 hour before finishing. Having a hot cup of tea to warm the bones now. Loving this global warming.....

Got a hair cut and then rented a Bosch chipping hammer to remove tile and mortar on some tile on the walkway to the house. Making chili again for the family and writing up the recipe in food corner.

Got my snatch rope from Randys. Comes with a bag too. This thing is solid, even has a little pocket for gloves in the bag.

Also found a 1.5 die for my JD bender. Little tight at 4.5 radius but for $100 was hard to beat new.
I really like that!

Here in hippy land the ground is relatively unstable & they use foam to re level the Crete slabs, works pretty well & will move a lot of weight....

Thank you gentleman. Yes this is our first and we are beyond excited. We had given up and had started planning our lives around just the two of us. We started buying camping gear, planning an antelope hunt for this fall with our dads, and 13 days after buying a new truck we found out she was pregnant. To me, that is just proof that it is not our plan that matters. I should be able to get out of the new truck without much of a hit. We are blessed that we don't have to sell it but I would prefer to not have that obligation just in case something is wrong with the baby or my wife after delivery. We have also informed our dads that the hunt will have to be pushed back a year and of course they have no problem with that.

St the patio is one I built....with 1'x2' pavers. If we used the patio for anything beyond the hottub and my grille I would dig it up and do it right. But it's pretty level, but with the tub even slight differences show up on the water line. So this frame will make it easy to adjust as needed. With that much weight (water) it might shift again after install.

Longball, boy doesn't that prove that God's plans often differ from our own. Very cool how that can happen.

Going to use it for insulation. Will compress the batt, then use the slot to cut it straight ;)

Yeah, that ought to work. Not sure I would use anything other than a utility knife though as that fancy tool looks too nice to be using on Fiberglas insulation. In my experience (& I just insulated my garage a few months back) that insulation is hard on knife edges as I went thru quite a few disposable blades. It will round one of those disposable knife tips off fairly quick. But to each his own.

Edit: or did you use that tool to cut the slot in the plywood? Original thought was you just used that table saw for the slot?

Nah I used a circ saw to cut the slot. Good point on dulling the blade. Maybe I'll just the standard utility knife

Well, we're setting in the calm before the storm.
Had a few inches of snow over the weekend, but have 2-3 feet forecast for today and tomorrow.
I hope they're wrong and we only get a bit. I think I'd consider a foot a bit with this forecast.

And they're calling for winds in the range of 20-50 mph.
Should be interesting...

Heck, I just get a carving knife from the dollar store and sharpen it.

I do like the board idea though. Keeps the cut straight and should be 1 cut.

why batt insulation kyle and not spray in?

Cost, and also flexibility to run further electrical and plumbing in the stud bays later. And I can easily install fiberglass myself

And it will keep the side of the thumb group attached to the thumb...

Keeping parts attached is key for sure.

Welp, the storm has begun.

Now the Wierd part, rain on windshield and mirror...its 12 degrees. Going to be a good one me thinks with that happening.

Even the dog shows signs of the snow...

We'll see what the morning brings...

Just wanted to give a shout out to Tate, finally went & checked my mail box this morning. The kinetic tug em out strap was delivered. Very nice piece with a nice carry bag to boot.

Thanks for the great deal on a high quality piece of hardware.

P.S. Don, if you don't have one you should for all the equipment you destroy it may come in handy. Worst case you can have a Hyundai SUV help you out of a mall mulch bed.......

I (we) need to post this stuff in tools or something. We are all using the WDYDT as a catch all. Kinda fun, but hard to find down the road.

I have to take my boy for a collage visit today. He can't start until January. He wants to move in with a friend for the summer. That's fine but I'm afraid he will get some money in his pocket and decide he dont need to go. I have to have faith he will make the right decision.

Yesterday I got the smoker done and ready for a test fire. Painted all the new steel so it can sit outside. I'd like to put some fenders on it later. I see in the picture that in my hurry to finish it I forgot to weld the jack on.

Right behind the grill on this side there's an empty space. I'm thinking a small sink there and a tank of water underneath. With an rv pump. Be a good place to wash up. Could rig up hot water through the fire box too.

A good friend of had both legs amputated due to diabetes. I got a few guys rounded up and were going to build him a wheelchair ramp Saturday wether permitting. Partly His own fault for not taking care of himself but he was caring for his elderly mother. She was a hand full. Shortly after she passed they took his right leg. The left went a couple days ago.

Jon I would not be afraid to let your son work it out on his terms. My son went to school but really wasn't ready for it and it was a very tough year and a half. Not ready but going because Mom and Dad want him to. He left and is working and finding his own path. In some ways it may be a tougher path but ultimately it's one he has to work. He's working his tail off, seeing success for that work and is on a path that works for him. I don't know if he will return to school or not. But I have to trust him to do what's right. I think there are a lot of kids that fall into the idea that they have to go to school when maybe some "wandering time" would be good for them and allow them to mature a bit. I don't know your son obviously so not trying to urge one thing or another, just that for my son school right away was not the best thing for him.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. That's difficult to see I am sure. Prayers for him in dealing with this.

I'll second the taking some time.
Our son took a year off.
Went to school because "we wanted him to" for a year and a half.

He wasn't ready, or wasn't in the right program.
We're not sure, as in all of us...
Currently he is working and also finding his way.
He is enrolled ( on the waiting list) for an electrical program.
Time will tell, but it was his decision to stop wasting our/his money at the time.

Sorry about your friend and his situation.
Sometimes He has other plans for us.
Thoughts and prayers for him to get through this.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

I don't know your son but college is not for everybody.  My wife went to school, accumulated a bunch of student loan debt and since has bounced around a couple of different jobs that does not require a secondary education.  She often wishes she never went to college.  I know several other people in the same boat.  My brother and most of my cousins went the skilled trade route.  A couple years at a tech school and they were working and earning good money.

Whatever he decides to do I will support him. I suppose it's so important to me that he goes is I never went. I partied and went straight to work. So many doors were closed because I didn't have that piece of paper.

He is looking going for auto mechanics. Then go back for auto body. Steady money in both fields.

College is not for everyone, I went and left with half a dozen credits to go before achieving an associates. My wife has 3 from highly accredited private Christian colleges. She has used hers to go very far & still climbing. I didn't need the degrees & to this day when I worked full time made more of an annual salary than her currently. The "real" money we made in the past was through real estate & business investments, not working a day job. With all that said I would not change a thing & I'm sure my parents were disappointed when I left school. I however left and never looked back, hard work can over come much. Include that with being well read & its a formula for success. The being well read just gives you a basis for an opinion of the world we live in & an understanding.

Trades...Now that is smart!

Parents all think our kids need to graduate from college

Hog Wash!

College is not for many people. Most fail at it, take too many years and almost all start life with crippling debt.

The German education system recognizes this early on and by the time you are a 10th grader, you are either in college prep, or in a trade school.

We need to encourage our kids to do the same. Most trades in the US pay better than being an airline pilot! Seriously, a good plummer will be knocking down north of 100K fairly quickly. When I flew for Comair, in my fifth year as a first officer (Personal choice) I made a whopping $55K. I remember seeing a waffle house add for an assistant manager at the time paying 55K to start!

A machinist is potentially looking at $100/hr service calls, and a diesel mechanic will always find work. I know professionals who quit their professions to open lawn mowing companies!

The go to college thing is a big scam. But for the few who aspire to an MBA and a senior level management position, for the lawyer, Doctor, Engineer and so forth, College bound ya are. The rest should not swallow hard and go to work, but should smile inwardly, get skilled labor training, then certification, and move out smartly to a great life just waiting outside the front door.
