Tofu Recipes...
« on: July 27, 2017, 03:56:02 PM »
So as not to junk up the vegan thread thought I'd share my tofu recipe.
Yes I tried it once.

Cook it as per recipe, better yet save the othe food you'll be wasting...
Throw tofu in garbage and cook some real meat.

Tried it once, mama on some kick.
Three the works out and cooked real food.

I can't do the tofu.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

I'm not a huge fan, but you can wrap the extra firm block in a thick layer of paper towels, press between two heavy plates for about 20 min with a change out of the paper towels after the first 10 min. cut up into even cubes, 1/2-3/4" and marinate in soy, brown sugar, sesame oil, and Chinese 5 spice, then toss them in corn starch and fry them up. Crunchy, soft, salty, sweet. I dip them in soy sauce and brown sugar that's been reduced to thickness of syrup with Sambal chili paste or spicy mayo. Cooked any other way my wife can keep it for herself unless it's in miso soup.

Tofu is weird

I have some that some scientist from the Hanford Nuclear Energy labs turned into sour cream. Wasn't so bad. But now I'm glowin' in the dark, or is that my shiny head reflectin' moon light?

Uncle John works for PNNL over there, might have had a hand in that sour cream.

after my time in south America I'm not afraid of eating anything. after you've had cows head barbequed luau style, nothing is intimidating. I've got texture issues that will override taste, but I'm pretty much game for anything. Don't forget buddy, I'm from warshington and don't let things like "vegan tofu butter" affect my manliness.  :beercheers:

There are actually studies out there that have shown Tofu to be very bad for you. Lots of chemicals in it. Just another reason to stay away!

Just a quick Google search and you find this...

https://www.elephantjournal.com/2016/09/ditch-the-tofu-10-reasons-soy-is-toxic-definitely-not-a-health-food/

#1 Soy blocks the absorption of vital minerals.
#2 Soybeans undergo heavy industrial processing which create toxins in the final products.
#3 Manufactured soy products are not a good source of protein.
#4 Soy products can contain MSG.
#5 Phytoestrogens in soy may cause breast cancer.
#6 Soy contains goitrogens which depress thyroid function.
#7 Soy does not even have GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status.
#8 The farming practices used to cultivate soybeans kill marine life.
#9 Most soy is genetically modified (GMO).
#10 It is a myth that Asian cultures consume a lot of soy and achieve health benefits.

My mom tried to tell me tofu was chicken when I was about 12 years old (mom was a hippie or would have been one if she had been born 10 years later)....I told her it wasn't chicken, it didn't taste like chicken and I hated it. I haven't seen any reason to change my opinion of tofu in the last 43 years.

Well.... here it goes.  I had tofu at an Indian restaurant. Didn't know it when I ordered it but it was really good. Heavy Indian spice and roasted (I think). Not that I would order it again. I hear it gives men boobs

Almost added it to chief's vegan thread, figgered this may be more humerous.

So, to prove the point; substitute meat for the tofu and lets do a side by side taste off for each recipe: tofu vs meat  .......... I think we know the winner!

I had a bite of tofu once. I was at an Indian restaurant and they had it in a place with cheese and something on the label. I bit down and immediately looked at dad and said... this ain't cheese. Dad's reaction was along the same lines.

Now, point of order here

Crabs and scrimps are not meat! Not at all, at least by my, vegan reckoning. They are in another category altogether which I call, "Other food"

Other food can be eaten and no more thought needs to be given to it whatsoever.

I have proven that eating my crab cakes can

1. Make you feel mo-better
2. Cause you to walk around with a smile
3. Look better
4. In TRN case, look prettier!
5. cause you to lose weight
6. and, grow a lot of muscle
7. Puts hair on your chest
8. or, if you already have some, curls it!
9. instantly quiets noisy people
10.  causes the ladies to take notice!
       (Even in Bobby's case!)
11. Can be sold at 5X their actual cost
12. Partially responsible for the rise of civilization (Not proven, but I'm pretty sure that's right) (Kind of like how beer caused the invention of the wheel and the evolving of liberals into women!)
13. Reverses tooth decay!
14. Contains all 12,855 daily essential vitamins
15.Clears plaque from arteries, and your teeth! True!
16. Was the official food of the 1961 1/2 olympics
17. Is not eaten by democrats
18. Chosen as the 1st National Food by the congress of 1721
19. Kept sailors on the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria alive during their epic voyage
20. Is the reason engineers created the worlds longest pipeline!
21. Was the only material to remain consumable following the nearby detonation of the world's first atomic explosion
22. Was eaten by Neil Armstrong just prior to his epic first step
23. Will not effectively mix with any health food!
24. can actually be eaten while hanging upside down!
25. will not stick to your fingers like yuppie food
26. Causes you to vote conservative on all issues
And therefore is banned by the republican party in washington :-(
27. Can be digested
28. Looks about the same coming out as it did going in
29. can be used as an emergency fabric, which can later be eaten
30. Must always be covered with Old Bay Seasoning when exposed to air!

And those are the three reasons I think crab cakes are "Other food" and somehow so are scrimps.
