Bump Fire M4 Build
« on: September 16, 2014, 05:49:42 PM »
Let's get some gun going on here!

Today I built a bump fire M4 and a scratch built one just to "learn" myself how to do that. The good news is I learned how to do it. THe bad news is I have two inop M4's at the moment!

THe bump fire gun launched a tiny spring out of the butt stock into the twilight zone where it is and will always be. Honestly, I think it landed on my malamute which took off and shook off in the lawn depositing it below this fall's leaf clutter, has to be that!

So that gun is out of there until I get that new spring. You know, come to think of it, I need to tell Nasa about those springs, I mean it's like fusion. It tucks in about 1/4 inch, yet fires out a half mile or so. Some wierd physics going on there.

So here's the bump-fire gun awaiting it's little 7th dimension bound spring:

Don, why do you call this a bump fire M4.   I understand the shooting style of bump fire to simulate fully auto.  But please enlighten me

Should we derail his thread since he hasn't responded yet

I am looking to buy me a AR or similar type of rifle.  I know little to nothing about them other then there is millions of options exponential amounts $ to be spent and the whole difference between models is way to boggling at the moment.  Who is the local expert on the forum

Build one, buy the stripped lower (you will have to do paperwork on it as it is the receiver, unless you can buy one from another person in your state and they allow it legally) then for your first build I would buy an assembled upper (you can build this too but you need special tools to hold upper receiver and ar wrench) then add lower parts kit and stock and sights of your choice. Any number of guys here can walk you through building one. I did it for armalite 100 ar's ago. :D Last make sure all parts you buy are mil-spec. Ask lots of questions we won't bite. ;)

edit: and if you choose to build one start a build thread and ask questions there etc. I'm all for DOTing up Big D's threads but even I have a limit.....

Build your own. Research what you want to use it for. Buy it one part at a time, makes it cheaper.

Build one

I agree with Shawn. Start your own build thread, we'll help get you squared away.

You can pretty much build a complete rifle off that sight piece by piece.

I have bought from Bravo but they are top dollar usually. Start with a lower made of aluminum (I would shy away from composite ones), you can normally get an Anderson lower stripped for less than $50 not including transfer fees. I have not heard anything bad about them and I believe they are the least expensive on the market.

I use several places for parts

http://www.brownells.com/

http://www.aimsurplus.com/catalog.aspx?groupid=571

http://www.jsesurplus.com/

& I used to buy from midway until they sold me a junk bolt and banned me because I used saw dust as packing material returning it. No joke customer service was a B and asked me since when is saw dust suitable for packing and I replied since horses and wagons and that was long before I was born........ ::)

For the pin?

Where that little D!M#$! spring took flight??
That Spring?

Well, I bought another lower small parts kit and it is sitting here.

So yes, I got the spring

But, no I didn't install it (yet)

Stock stays together with 100mph tape just fine!

Bravo Company has good stuff

I am building an M4 at the moment, and just purchased a complete upper from Bravo Company. It has all milspec parts and a nice 1:7 twist for the heavier bullets I like to shoot.

That's another point. I'd use a 1:8 (rarer) or a 1:7 twist barrel and plan to zero with M855 62 grain ammo. Then buy up all the 55 grain M163 or copy cat rusky junk and shoot up the town with the el cheapo stuff, but shoot for real with the 62 grain or 70 something grain mo-better stuff.

If you want to shoot anything past 95 meters, then forget 55 grain bullets ever existed!

Another thought especially if you choose to buy from palmetto make sure the upper & barrel have m4 feed ramps. I would also spec chrome lined barrel for longevity however some on here may disagree on that point.

Which one of you guys can translate the last ten posts into English?
Who is going to start a sticky with all these parts sites in a spot that they won't get lost?

How much would I have to pay one of you guys to just build me one of these ?

You can build your own. It's stupid easy. Push a pin here, swear a little bit when a spring flies into the neither, drink some coffee, push another pin, smile, repeat.

^^^. you can go to midway usa and watch the assembly videos that they have or check out youtube.  There are few tools that are required.  Several that are handy, but you probably have most of them.

If you are good at shopping around like Matt said, or buy the blemished parts.. Which is a misnomer of sorts since a blemish can generally be a run in the coating or a scratch and someone returned it since it was scratched.

Unless one of us is an FFL we cannot build it for you. If you're serious about this PLEASE start a new thread so we can quit DOTing up Dons thread.

Here's one from Integrity Arms- they built mine for me and I couldn't be happier.  This is their entry level and is quality for the $ IMO
