Exactly!

How do you think I survived this long?

By taking on random mulch beds during the three weeks a year I was home from the wars?

Not likely!!!

Didn't you see the two 8 1/2 ton Crosby shackles on the back?

You can just hover over and connect and lift me completely out with that whirly bird thingy

Menses, after the black wheel transformation I have decided to make a change on the steps. I was going to take them off and take them to a bed liner place and have them shot with black UV resistant liner.

I'd like to try this myself but have a few questions.

1. Are any of the DIY products as good as the products used by LineX etc? Including UV?
2. If so, which ones?
3. What is the consensus on prepping chrome for best results?

Thanks

So the back bumper you may recall was replaced with a black Fab Four. I'm working my way forward.

I changed the mud flaps to black and ordered a new black exhaust tip. Once I get the steps done I'll get to work on the front end.

Going to look for a Denali bumper to paint match after fabricating some police style push bars to weld to it which will also create a non airflow restricting spot for a light bar.

I have extra headlights which will be transformed and then a black mesh grill.

Not sure about 1 & 2 no experience there but wondering about different powders? 3, should be able to scuff n coat it. As long as chrome doesn't pull from base steel then should be a good base coat imo.

Out here, I see Linex hold it's color better than any other, including the raptor I did on my rear bumper (about 1 year ago?) The Raptor cleans up pretty good, but still looks somewhat flatter than when first sprayed. The perfect solution would be to get the Linex Premium black as picky as you are, imho.
...there are others that are tougher (Inyati comes to mind) but just don't look as good as Linex....when it's done right.

...oh, and I've read a few posts about this over the years, and this one seems to stand out:

"Standard bedliner products are "aromatic" meaning they can fade mostly from UV light from the sun. Some bedliner products are "aliphatic" meaning they are much more UV stable. The paint on your new truck is aliphatic paint. Your paint will fade, but it takes many years before you can actually see fading with your eyes. Actually, aromatic and aliphatic have to do with hydrocarbon chains in the chemicals but one of the differences between the two is UV stability.

LINE-X Xtra (colors other than black) and LINE-X Premium (black only) are aliphatic. Just like your truck's paint, it will take years before you can visually see any change in color. If you were not worried about your truck's paint fading when you bought your truck, then there's no reason to worry about Xtra or Premium fading either.

That being said, there is one reason to choose black over another color. Black tends to hide wear and tear better than colors. So, if you use your truck's bed for heavy use, you might as well stick with black. Most people are not heavy users, they are an occasional Home Depot goer and a color match is fine for that."

Sounds like a plan Ken, should look good.

You did mean "nerf" bars, not "next" bars, right?

I'm not sure what your process was for the raptor on the rear bumper but I generally hit anything I put raptor liner on with a coat or two of clear afterward.  It makes it a little easier to clean and does give it more gloss.  Before the clear it was a little more flat/ appeared to be faded compared to my black truck.  After it seemed to be a perfect match.  Had it on for almost 2 years before I sold it.

I thought about doing clear, but wasn't sure how it would handle the heat. The back half of my truck is in direct sun light every work day. I wondered how hard it would be to redo it if it started peeling 5, or even 10 years from now. At least with straight bedliner, a guy should be able to just recoat it if need be.....in theory.

They are more aggressive than the Nitto G2, but less so than the Toyo OC.  IMO a great compromise

Well bringing the last pieces up to speed and a bump for Mr Woody as it gets close to hitting the sale block.

I forgot to update the backflip bed cover which works well with the fifth wheel

and today I had the windsheild replaced

And some shots of the paint after clay bar compound and wax

JR I smile when I drive it. The wife won’t shoot me if I keep it but it’s just not practical without the big trailer anymore.

Shawn I’m sure there’s a commission to be earned if it’s sold on this site....

83,000 miles on it and I drive the LB7 more than either the dually or the denali

Denali has 1500 miles after 3 months and the LB7 finally hit 160,000

As far as the dually, it’s nice sometimes knowing if you need it you have it too.

With some airbags on the LB7, it will tow all I need to tow with the built trans and tuned motor.

Stopping it may be a different story....

Careful TRN...you'll end up like me. I am driving the 91 Suburban.

The kids all have 2015 and newer stuff.

Irony... my wife's 2017 Mustang has gotten 1,200 miles on it all summer. Probably half those are at a track....had it almost 2 years and it's got 7K on it.

I have resigned myself to the reality....I shouldn't have nice things, they are not conclusive to happiness lol

I have to say that is the best looking paint I have seen in a long while. That is one thing I miss about Texas. You can keep a truck looking good for more than a day or two unlike Crapsota.

I would just keep it. Next month you will need a big trailer or something and you would never replace it for what you sell it for. Plus if it's paid off it isn't depreciating much anymore. It's becoming an asset.. especially in Texas where every truck has 200K miles on them. Under 100K they are like gold.  LOL

Shawn, Oddly, I find myself in agreement with ya.

Sad indeed

I mean the paint alone is reason to want that thing for us, and reason to keep it for Tex.

Gotta, admit, I'm uncomfortable with all this. I mean what's next? Sellin' off some of his guns?? making a pond out of his pool for migratin' sandhill cranes? Votin' democrat? I mean where does it end, this madness??

RN, Use this site to sell the thing. Heck a real guy needs to own that, not that girly men would ever entertain something like that.

So what are you wanting to get out of it?

Anyone here interested?

Would be fun to keep it in the community

From what I have seen over the years, Tex has literally poured his heart out into this thing...

Can I get an a-men?

I can't buy it, I like TRN.  It would drive him to more drinking/frantic shooting/hoarding if he saw that truck after it spent 2 weeks on our roads working for a living.

This is why the Mustang is kept in town...my wife washes it with distilled water and a foam cannon and gentle thoughts. If I drove it down a dirt road she'd have words LoL

She's still mad at me because I ate a cheeseburger in it once.... "you ate a cheeseburger in my Recaro seats?? You neanderthal!!!"

Norm, you have nice things. Start with Kate for gosh sakes.

All us guys use our trucks, not always to full cap but they earn their keep. The guys who wan a nice new ride get Denalis and such, then some of us have older subs.

Yes JR I have many things I am very grateful to have. That said I don't tend to try and kid myself a nice shiny truck is ever a possibility in any duration.

Boozer is about pristine....but since arriving home from Colorado it's undergone constant daily abuse on the gravel/mud roads. By winters end it would have no paint under it, 1200lbs of mud caked under it and no longer be a clean nice truck. This is why I agreed to sell it....no sense kidding myself... today's trucks aren't up to this reality.

It's like a nice rifle...no matter how careful you are, stomping around in the brush hunting slowly destroys a rifles cosmetics.

Norm once I cut ties I cut them. Even though I put months of deep thought and execution to get it just the way I wanted it. It’s primary purpose was served and that was as a tow pig for the 5th wheel. I know of no other truck that was set up better for specifically what I wanted.

Don the price is $43000 with the wheels and $42000 without and without means I put 6 new Michelin ATX ( the spare is already new )on it and the factory wheels back on it.

As a man of my word, right now Mr Woody has right of first refusal. If it doesn’t sell after that I have an excuse to keep it.

I mean, what am I gonna do with $42,000?  Although I did see an MP5SD for sale that I really lusted after.....

You could buy the property next to me in Idaho, 23 acres. Not flat enough for a large garden tho .
