Not that you don't do any Dana 60s, right? I like the idea of later model dual calipers and slip off rotors. I even have the older rotors from my Dmax.

Rough in on machine shop wiring, waiting on 10-2 roll of wire to show up yet. Insulation guys stopped by to get measurements for quote last week and crickets since.

Ordered lights from hi-hyperlite.com for the ceiling. Same units as under my mezzanine in last shop but higher watts 60 versus 40 in old shop. 4 units 4’ long LED Vapor Tight Light

Slab on big shop was poured last Thursday, they cut it the following morning then covered it for last week. It’s rained just about daily since with last 3 pretty steady all day. They pulled blankets off today.

I pulled cap off truck today in anticipation of taking gooseneck trailer to start bringing home lumber for framing on new shop next week. Trusses are 3 weeks out. Gotta get humping it…..

Good job on the framing. Subcontractor or is that you? The attention to detail demonstrated on the blocking… some of us notice that sort of thing!

Well, yeah rain and snow spitting at us. It can’t make up its mind. Finished burning from dropped trees earlier this winter and unloaded the dump trailer that contained all my tools and axle building equipment. The two car garage is a hot mess now.

Few spots still open for Shawn’s rednaked backwoods riggin school….. don’t try this at home y’all!

Yes, the oem ball coupler on this dump trailer is a pia but it didn’t come off while doing sketchy stuff. It is a hd cast unit but takes some patience when hooking & unhooking the truck. I’d rather have the pintle setup, just waiting on 10 ton ring to arrive that I ordered. Then stuff like this is less sketchy.

Two trips to lumber yard today and one yesterday. I have one long bundle of 16’ 2 x 6’s to pick up yet. Along with the lvl’s which they never ordered a month ago and then lost cut lengths and didn’t reach out to me. So waiting for those to come in to make one more load of lumber for the shop.

Yeah, it was the one item I beat them up on originally on the quote. All in the lumber package was around 9k

Both foundations total cost with excavation and tree removal was right at $72k

28’ which is longest tilt deck they make in that model. 14’ of tilt and I ordered it last November and picked it up right after first of year. Hauled a decent load north with it once. Bought it solely to move shop. 17k

Thanks Dave

Used the tooth digging bucket on the 215 today to remove this 18-24” of clay. This area will get underlayment and pit run fill on top to stabilize it. It will be a temporary parking area for the fifth wheel until big shop and south lean to is in place. I’m heading down in a week or two to grab the rv and get it relocated to Montana.

The majority of the material removed from next to the garage was then distributed in front of the new shop. Both areas two weeks ago would have buried the skid loader. Things are drying out quickly even with a bit of rain every couple days.

I concur, it’s fun and isn’t all day sitting in a machine seat (which can be mind numbing).

So today I unloaded the big trailer, mostly by hand and then went to grab last bundle of 2x6 x 16’ ers and the lvl’s I’m using over door ways etc.

Here it is this afternoon back from todays trip to lumber yard.

I spoke to the local gravel pit owner this morning. He’s only open a couple days a week but has cheap base for sale. Spoke to him about setting up an account. He laughed and said I know where you live. I agreed, that works too! So starting on weds (first day he’s open this week) I’m going to start hauling pit run base. In anticipation of that and not wanting to start framing today with chance of rain all afternoon. I started on completing the U shaped driveway by removing all of the organic material in that area. Last picture above is a panoramic so you can see how the driveway will be once complete.

We have a thaw season which creates load limits on non highway roads & mud on side roads (unpaved) which is what that road to my place is, unpaved. State highway is about a half mile away from my driveway.

I’ll place underlayment down then outrun and finally top it with gravel. Part of my driveway by house only has gravel so I’ll have to dig it all out like I did on other side of garage for the rv.

I think that stuff you're talking about is what we call "Quarry trash."
I know of nothing that packs down any better. Lay and grade that in then top with 1" and go over that with 3/4" or #57 and you'd have as stable a driveway as anyone could build

I despise asphalt, if you ask my better half it’s all going to be concrete. It’s not, but I hope to have some in key areas. Shop needs a pad out front as does 2 car garage and in area in front of cabin. The area in front of cabin I will have to dig out as knucklehead before me only put 3/4 gravel down, no underlayment and no base. Rest will be gravel driveway.

This afternoon I laid out all of the sill plates & drilled them. Last pic is ufer ground rod, concrete guys had it originally outside the studded wall. I was able to massage it back into the wall.

Tomorrow is hauling a few loads of pit run with the dump trailer. Plan is to frame walls Thursday - Sat and see how much I can get done. Trusses are scheduled to be complete next week and I have a trip south first of the week coming up.

Lots going on!

It will once I build the wall with that bottom sill plate. They all have to come off so I didn’t see the point to do it right now. A good wind and your panty hose goes flying……

Hauled pit run and 1”- last two mornings. Installed French drain from next to garage and around machine shop. Picked and stacked rock to help brace bank near machine shop (no pics sorry, needs more work anyhow). I have a solid place to park the fifth wheel in a few days now.

This is Gary Managhan in the excavator at the pit behind his home. Gary is 78 years young (I’d have guessed mid 60’s), raising two of his grand daughters 14 & 15. Packed up and worked ND oil fields at 71, did that for three years as there was a downturn here locally and no work. I’ve learnt quite a bit about him in two days. He’s a real man thru and thru. Hats off to that guy, glad I can give him a lot of future business. Hope he hangs around for a while!

Stub wall in place and first of three short walls up on north side. Got the verticals cut for long front wall tomorrow. Most of these walls going forward will be built on concrete then set in place with skid loader.

He seems to like being retired with not a lot to do. He’s 62 and in very good shape. He’s not like most of us here, he hires out most jobs around his place. Although I think I’m rubbing off on him some and giving him the encouragement to try to do some things himself even at my expense of loaning him tools etc. Personally, I believe I’d go stir crazy being retired.

Well, I’m not like most. At 37 I sold our farm, sold a business, essentially turned another into a holding company and resigned from my day job (career?) and wife took a job and we were relocated to Colorado. After working 18-20 hours a day for years I was to put it lightly worn out. I told myself I was taking 3 months minimum off. I last a month, I focused on running, binge watched breaking bad, got three teenagers around and earned the nickname lunch lady that first year of their schooling in Colorado.

At 30 days after the move I felt rested and started going stir crazy. I started hunting for shop space and meeting steel vendors on the front range. Bought a house at 3 months in Colorado and started up a new business in third bay of that garage. So after all of that I know now I probably won’t ever retire and that’s ok……

Built first wall on ground and with help of neighbor Curt set it in place with skid loader and boom I built. Sorry forgot pics of boom but it worked awesome. It does need a swivel hook which I ordered this afternoon off eBay. Make note JR, swivel hook on end of boom is needed!

Thanks guys, was able to finish’s the far north wall and set it today. We have intermittent rain called for the next week. In fact in the bottom picture I was able to get some house wrap on these walls and tools put away prior to a small thunderstorm rolling thru.

I spoke to truss manufacturer today, they were originally supposed to be ready on the first. However, they’re running behind as am I. So it looks like I have a couple weeks to finish framing which I’ll need. At least get big trailer unloaded and relocated so they can drop trusses right outside the west overhead door.

In between rain storms Saturday evening I cut the pieces for the end wall. Then it rained all day yesterday and this morning. Weather broke around 1 pm and I was able to get it nailed and sheeted then erected. Covered with house wrap as it’s calling for another two days of rain.

I did some wiring this morning on home runs to panel in two car garage from the attached machine shop. Spray foam of machine shop is getting done tomorrow. Progress…..

On another note, a lot next to us (a really nice lot of roughly 8 acres with mountain views ) was listed last week. It’s a lot we have talked about since we moved in that is privately owned. We made a contingent offer on it and went under contract last Friday. The price was right and I need to 1031 some of old shop into something else so this made sense. We now have 60 days to get shop sold and completely moved. I need to get new shop erected and enclosed to do so. It’s tight, it’s in gods hands if it will work out. We’ve been praying over it daily and as minuscule as it is if any of you want to add it in prayer it would be appreciated. I’m just putting my head down and pushing ahead hoping it works itself out.

That's good news

Psalm 37:23-31 King James Version 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. 25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

The steps of a good man — Hebrew, of man, namely, of the righteous, or blessed man, mentioned Psalm 37:21-22; are ordered by the Lord — Or, directed, or disposed, that is, so governed as to attain the end at which he aims; or strengthened, or established, so as he shall not stumble and fall into mischief

The steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord. Psalm 37:23 Thank you Heavenly Father for ordering my steps. Thank you for your mercies.
