Thanks guys, lateral bracing is all in place. We laid 2x10 the length of it in center roughly for catwalk.

Agreed & yes sheathing needs done.

I’m waiting on man lift mid week I hope. So going to get hurricane brackets installed first, then facia on north side along with outriggers that I can reach standing on walls. Should be able to get far enough up on north side to get a run of sheathing in place. I need to cover the lower section of roof with ice shield which finally came in Friday too. Plenty to do.

Man lift shows up tomorrow afternoon. Started facia & outriggers on north side. Then pre cut them all so when machine shows up it should go rather quick. Plan is to get all of facia completed with outriggers and blocking between outriggers set then at bar minimum get south side sheeted.

We’re also using the machine to do some exterior maintenance on our cabin. The logs have settled over the course of 2-3 years and it needs some of the main ridge beam logs cracks filled in and other areas caulked up high. Momma wants the big windows on west end cleaned too.

It would appear so….

I used 2x10’s for bird blocking between the trusses on north side. Due to the steep angle (9/12) of the roof they don’t exactly block birds (unless you count ostriches) but the trusses are braced and it will keep the blown insulation out of soffits.

The man lift showed up early around 10:30 am so I got right to work installing blocking on south side.

Then worked my way around to west end outriggers and blocking between those. This machine takes 50% of the work out of this job.

Finished up a bit after 5 pm with facia on south side.

Hefty price tag & it’s by the week or day but the week price is a tad more bearable. I have a lot of high work to do between cabin & this shop so a week it is. See how far I get tomorrow. We’ve been doing little things but my goal is to hunt and fish quite a bit this fall. So work hard now so I have more time then & beyond.

Set fee, I prepaid and have the invoice already. It needs to go back with a full tank of fuel, no one cares about mileage, this is Montana…….

Stuck in one near the tail of an AWACS when a thunder storm rolled in. They had to pull it away from the aircraft with a truck and crack the cylinder hydro line to get me down. Was not a fun ride

100 degrees here today, not much fun

Had to pull some of lateral bracing to get the trusses plumb as I put down the sheeting. Trusses have decent bow in them that I’m going to work out as I go up with the sheeting.

Roughly 60% of high roof sheeted

Pushing close to 100 degrees last two days, we’re supposed to get a 10-15 degree drop in high temp for next few days now.

32 feet ? Couldn't you do that with a couple of step ladders stacked on top of each other? Those lifts are a life saver. When you have to get people and equipment up any distance make work safer, quicker and easier. I may not like them but sometimes they are the best tool for the job

Yeah, I couldn’t have lifted 20ish 4x8 sheets of plywood up 18’ of ladder and laid it today. I could however toss a sheet in the lift and ride it up. Granted my back is still pissed atm but I was able to get that south side done today.

Sheeting 100% done

Plan is to finish roof underlayment tomorrow and get it dried in on both ends before lift goes back Thursday. I’ll have two small triangles under the low roof I’ll need to finish framing and toss some wrap on. Then it’s time for garage doors, man door & windows.

Electrical service becomes a priority too then.

Thanks guys, yes Charles there is a man door (the only one) under that porch. It’s currently covered by wrap & osb that needs cut open.

I’ve been working on cleaning existing 2 car (organizing / sweeping) and wiring small compressor in there that will feed air to machine shop. In addition moved mill into machine shop & wired that up. I have some parts orders that required press brake and milling work so had to get those machines up & going.

Been slow going last few days. I wired up the mill in the machine shop and small compressor found it’s forever home in the detached 2 car garage. I’ll eventually plumb it into machine shop for air purposes there.

Had several orders that were out a few weeks and needed to focus on getting them shipped which happened yesterday.

I started hanging components on the electric pedestal for the new 400 amp meter which will have 200 feeding cabin / detached garage / machine shop & then 200 for big shop. The idea on this pedestal is to set it up so we can add a gen set transfer switch in the future with minimal rework of the existing panels. Pedestal is east of shop which is where the new propane tank will reside with whole house genset in the future. Far away from our cabin so we don’t need to listen to it.

In the meantime I do have garage door installer scheduled and I decided to stroke a check for the roof steel installation. Hvac guy is supposed to stop by this week or next so we can discuss heat in the big shop.

The new shop is really taking shape. Setting up the electric panel away from the cabin is really thinking ahead. Do you have your own well or does the developer supply water to the parcels? Maybe at some point install a water storage tank. Set up a fire control sprinkler system above the cabin and shop for the dreaded forest fire events.

Funny you mention fire suppression. This developer (from commifornia) is shady. We’ve got his number. He’s flat out lied to us several times. The county has frozen him selling any lots further until he meets the fire suppression criteria he agreed to for this development. Btw, he’s told us he doesn’t have to do any of that in prior conversation while asking what we’d be ok with allowing him to do….

From my understanding after meeting local fire chief there is supposed to be a 5k underground gallon storage tank here in our development and a building over it to store a brush fighting tank equipped truck. Developer was trying to weasel his way into using our well and us selling him property (because he can’t plan ahead properly) to house this tank and building as our property is near development entrance. The water line he already has stubbed for it east of my shop. I appreciate that he did that as I’m using it for shop water now……

Yor actually lucky on the fire suppression issues. Here in Kali new construction need sprinklers built in. Some rural properties have to add 10k of water tanks for fighting fires out of pocket.

I built my power station much like yours at the farm. 400 amp meter base in the center and a 200 amp service on either side of it. One for the house and the other for everything else. I now have a whole house generator and they replaced my 200 amp disconnect with a service rated, 200amp ATS. Check with that before you buy everything to keep you from having to pay twice.
