Yeah, heard and saw that this morning.
Not very impressed thus far...
I don't like the way things are looking

One of his big deals was to legalize pot...
Then I expect the long gun registry to return...
AHHHH...
Hopefully we can make it through this term.

Phew, good thing you don't have any long guns to register. That would be terribly inconvenient!!

Supposedly they destroyed the records when it was scrapped a few years ago.
So I may have two long guns. Priors and posts though, I don't seem to have any of them.  8)

There will be some interesting times ahead of us for sure.
At the moment, I'm looking at upping the non existing long gun count and debating a couple glocks.
Thinking a 9mm and .45. Probably the 17, but maybe 19, and currently undecided on which 45.
Does anyone have an explanation on the difference and are the gen 4's worth the extra $? I know there are some differences in them just is it worth it if I have to order in if there is a Gen 3 in stock?

You have bears up there? 10mm might be a good idea if you have bears (versus 45).

I think the gen3/gen4 debate is model specific... Others can chime in with more knowledge than me, but i think the G19 gen4>3, and the g26 gen3>4... has something to do with the recoil springs or something... i'm no expert. I have a gen4 G19 and love it.

Next pistol purchase will be a G21 (full size 45), and then a G43 (single stack 9). My 45's are in the springfield XDm/s platform, and want to consolidate to Glock. But right now, my XD's aren't costing me any money, so they're likely to stick around awhile longer  ;D ;D

Generally Glocks come in three varieties with some exceptions.

a sub compact, a compact, and full size.

Then they may have a slimline (single stack model like the 36) and a long slide version (tactical like the 34)

So in 9mm you have the 26/19/17 and the 45 generally only came in compact and full size, the 30 and the 21.

The 40 is the 27/23/22

They now have single stack 45s (the 36) and the single stack G43 9mm.

The 42 is a 380 and not worth your money IMO.

The great thing about glocks is they all fit and function the same and for the most part all the parts are interchangeable like springs, trigger disconnects, mag releases, etc.

All mine are Gen3 and as long as you are happy with the ergonomics of the 3s and you can get a better deal on them there is no reason to spend more for the gen4.

Again, IMO, look hard at the 19 and the 23, which are a great compromise between carry and big enough to be accurate and hi capacity.  the 23 being the .40 and the 19 being the 9mm.

And if you ever get a chance to shoot an 18, you'll never forget it.

I select fire 9mm pistol that can empty a 33 rd mag in a blink of an eye....

Yeah they redesigned the recoil spring to be a 2 stage, but no real major changes.

Also, if you have a full size 21 (45acp) you can buy the mag and barrel for the 10mm and have both.

I can tell you a lot about loading a 10mm for performance.  1350fps with a Hornady XTP 200gn bullet.  Ballistic performance on par with the 41Magnum revolver round but with 14 rounds in a semi auto....

To get that performance you need to go to an aftermarket barrel such as the KKM, which is more fully supported in the chamber.  Also a heavier recoil spring is a must.  I have a 23lb Wolff and it still slings brass 20 feet.

I have Gen 3 and 4 Glocks
G19
G23
G30
G21

Gen 4 adds adjustability to the grip (Palm swell)

I default to my G19 or G23 for CC, or open carry like I just did in a restaurant.
BTW the waitress thanked me for carrying...said it made her feel a lot safer.

Side note: Concern over crap heads, err, criminals, err, citizens making poor choices has resulted in a certain boldness with some criminals. THis waitress had an old boyfriend stalking her. He has a restraining order, but for some reason doesn't care about it. He does, however understand force. Her brother is an Airborne Ranger and last time he was home, rearranged the stalkers facial features. She asked, if I could do that if he showed up. I said, "with pleasure mam!"

Back to gunz. G21 is a big gun. I plan to mount an optic on mine and use it on pests...
If I were shooting a .45, I would go to my G30 which uses sleeved G21 mags. It is a bit smaller and makes a bunch of noise launching those cannon balls, but it's like a 12 gage...1 shot will git er' done!

I'll second the G30 too.  Very nice.  If you have small mitts get the SF (or slim frame) version.  I CC that one from time to time as well.  It has a 10 round mag but as Don mentioned you can fit a 13 round mag (15 if you get the Arredondo extention) as a back up.

Here is a good link for comparison
https://us.glock.com/products/all

And I correct myself....the 30 is considered the subcompact and they don't make a compact 45.  I'd argue that the 30 is closer in size to the compact 9mm and 40 but I'm not in charge of naming them...

^^^He's right about the G30 size

I actually think the G30 might be bigger than the G19/G23 which are the same size

If I had to pick one gun and ammo of all types were always available, then I'd carry the G23, hands down.

But when ammo dries up, there will always be some extra 9mm in the couch along with old quarters!
Considering all factors, I'd have to go with the G19 as the one single go-to pistol. I relied on it in Baghdad...I carried it in a restaurant tonight, and about a million other times and places between those two times

RN, Thanks for all of the info. It is really helpful. I have never own a Glock (I know! Gasp!) It has been on my long list of things I would like to have.

I have always wanted a 45cal. I have been going back and forth between a 1911 and Glock 21. If you or Don were going to buy a 45cal which pistol would you go with? I like the capacity of the 21. I'm not planning it for CC.

Earlier i said i wanted a G21... not for concealed carry lol. For bedside and OWB hiking, hunting, etc.

And i have about a billion rounds of 45 stockpiled, so i'm reluctant to jump into another caliber even though i agree with what Don said on the G23 40 cal.

That's why i don't own a Glock. Too many numbers.

How bout a picture Ken?  ;D ;D

1911, yeah they are reliable (usually) and 100+ year old technology....

Now there is a lot to be said for running what you are familiar with, I'll be keeping my 870 too....

However, Don has made some really good arguments for Glocks over the years. I have big paws so as far as handling they don't bother me. I guess run whatever you are comfortable with but I am a proponent of having multiple calibers at your disposal. I never like having all my fish in one basket.

I have them all, but the Glocks just do it better, IMHO

I have a 1911 Combat, but I like the 22 and the 23 much better.

Of course I have a couple 9mm also, but love the 40.

Another winner by the Big D...

Also, I would challenge any one with a 1911 to come to the range with me.

We'll drop both a G21 and a 1911 in the mud and step on them and wiggle around on them a bit.  Then we'll see which one fails first.  I love the nostalgia of a 1911 and have one too.  When I bet my life on hardware its not going to be that.

In more caveman simple terms....a Glock has 34 parts and a 1911 has 53.  Which has more chance of failure?

And remember if you buy a 19 or a 23, you can simply buy the barrel and mags for the other and have both caiblers without having both firearms.

Same with the 21 and 20 (45 and 10mm)

But I will go to the range with you, and see which one throws lead the best.

I like most hand guns

But from my experience

Way back when Armee piluts carried a .38 revolver...Yup. I think it was to be used to dispatch oneself if he should become uncomfortable after losing his aircraft at some place other than an airfield.

Well these crazy people come and recruit me for something so secret, I wasn't even allowed to talk to myself!

While there, we wore Armee uniforms, well some of the time, and we flew around Armee helichopters, but other than that we were part of Wild Bill's wild west show.

They let us buy our own weapons. The Armee was bringing in the M9 but back then the surfer dudes weren't impressed with it and the Vietnam era guyz were still plentiful.
So the trusty and sometimes, rusty old 1911 was in abundance.

So I purchased a mossy 12 gage, a Ruger mini-14 which I carved all up into a real ninja gun and I purchased two 1911's. First I bought a Gold Cup, then a dumb old model 1970. I sent the gold cup to Wilson Combat and told em' to make er' right. Well, that gun, when it was clean would shoot some of the time and never after a few dust landings where the helichopter and I looked like we rolled in flour. But that old wiggly 1970 always shot, so I threw it in my helmet bag where it rode around the world with chewing gum wrappers, jungle mud from Panama, sand from some desert and dirt from Kentucky.
I heard that someone used to pull that pistol out and shoot deer on ft. Campbell while driving home after a NVG flight.
My buddy there, chuck had a jazzed up 1911 also. One day while killing some particularly angry and well entrenched paper targets in Flordia the front sight popped off his gun. Many were the times when I had to strategically look away to avoid embarrassment while he cleared yet another stove pipe.
In fact, funny story...but when I was down at Ft. Rucker going through the instructor pilot course. the instructor was giving me a really hard time. He hated Night Stalkers because he had tried and failed to get in. So he was beating me up in front of the class, so I reached over my chair, and pulled out that always dirty 1970 and asked him to rephrase the question! Yep, true story.
Anyway, the surfer dudes figured out the berretta so I picked up one, back in like 1542 or sometime when my buddy Chris was discovering the Americas, and it has slung untold thousands of bullets and has never, ever had one failure.
So even though we don't talk about the 92F it is a viable gun, but when I transitioned to Glocks and realized there was less to remember to operate it, I realized with one less thing to remember about it, I might remember everyone's birthday, so that's why I like Glocks!

Tex, I don't ever leave home. I keep the a/c filters changed regularly, so dirt and moisture are kept at a minimum! :)

Look, I get it. If i was recommending a good all around gun to someone "fresh" i would probably mention a glock, heck, I might even buy one someday.
In my case, i've used the 1911 since high school, shot a couple in junior high, and carried one on every hunt I've been on since. I'm good to 80 yards on average, 100 on a really good day, so for me to switch now would not be wise. I don't wanna lose my proficiency with that weapon, just to learn a new gun.

Thank you for the advice and comments. I did not realize you could interchange calibers / barrels on some of the models.

It's settled then... you just need to buy 3 or 4 models!  :)
