Only God knows his plans for us. I pray for His comfort and peace for her and her family.
Very true But here's another thought Shortly after you draw your last earthly breath if you know Jesus as your savior You will get to meet a little girl or boy, the one you never saw. They were created by God to last an eternity. They may have died an earthly death, but their eternal life with the Father does not die You will meet them some day!

She is recovering

Any changes?
Last I checked she was very slightly improved, but still very sick

I'm going to do something cool with that up-right, just wait...I think you'll like it.
So that was what I had time to get done today. So ended build day 273 for Square D

And here the upright is roughed in. It will get trimmed to size and straightened and finally get a tab that will attach it to the steel halo, making this one butt strong tire rack.

This protrusion along with the side plate will serve as the mount for the receiver tube of the swing away base mount
26607
« on: June 23, 2015, 09:41:37 PM »
And that was further reinforced and tied into the main structure with one of those 1" X 3" sections of tubing.

« on: June 23, 2015, 09:39:56 PM »
Next, its time to box in and reinforce the right bumper wing to make it more or less immovable.
I cut a large piece of steel plate and welded it to the underside contour of the bumper wing.
26609
« on: June 23, 2015, 09:38:10 PM »
That plate will serve as the top anchor for the swing part of the tailgate that will hold the spare and 3 water cans.
I decided to make this part bolt on, if I should ever want to or need to remove it. It will also make mounting the bumper much easier.
The bumper will have a square tubing receiver welded firmly to it. Another piece of slightly smaller OD square tube will through-bolt to the receiver and also to the steel halo, here it is:

Remember those two bolts I placed in the bed top halo?
Well, it's time to put them to work

Next, the slanted filler plates:
26612
« on: June 23, 2015, 09:32:04 PM »
And that seemed to fit well enough
26613
« on: June 23, 2015, 09:30:59 PM »
Yep, that's about right!
So on to the fabrication of the rest of the top plate:
26614

Soooo,
I cut it off!
26615
« on: June 23, 2015, 09:29:12 PM »
I started to wrap the bumper around all the way to the wheel well, but quickly decided that that "stretch" was all four kinds of ugly. I couldn't stand to look at it. I thought maybe I could fill it with dirt and make a planter out of it, and grow herbs for Nate, but figured, my bumper specials might not be up to his standards!

And Yes, the tailgate closes and opens just like normal

Rasimmo:
I checked, and you were correct, somewhere in the distant past we were building a bumper. That reminded me to continue, so let's build some more!
First of all I wanted to level the vehicle since that big Cummins and that front end bumper thing are causing those front springs to retire early!
So for now I jacked the front up a bit and placed some jack stands under the front spring eyes to hold off further relaxing.

Poor fella. I like just having friends with pools. It's easier on my schedule that way.
Successfully derailed thread, aint there a bumper build or something happening here.
When he gets that thing done, I will have a friend with a pool! I figure I mess around in his pool in the summer, and he hunts all over my farm in the fall, seems like a fair trade! I'll have to check if there is a bumper build happening...not sure right now!

well since he lives closest to you, have you checked on him lately? hows he doing?
Yea, I've checked on him. It would be inappropriate of me to say his wife has beaten him again and he is in the middle of a pool install. A pool surrounded by oak and hickory trees, in the forest, with herds of Racoon, deer, chipmunks, snakes, and who knows what trapsing through the property! I wouldn't want to paint a picture of my mighty warrior friend having given in to something as foolish as an unmaintainable pool in the middle of a forest just cause the woman beats him. I won't point out any of that because despite his obvious lack of fortitude and giving in, it would make him look, well, weaker I suppose. I give him a lot of latitude (Because of the Blackhawk thing) but I would have thought he could have saved all that money. Might as well have built the pool in the middle of a cow pasture, but, hey, I'm not talking about all this. No, we won't discuss any of these poor choices, we'll just go on as if no loss of dignity or position as the leader of his household ever occurred! Other than that, he's fine!

I'm thinking we should have a starting party when Don actually decides to crank this thing up...I should be eligible for my AARP discount by then....
Sorry Don, carry on sir.
Don't do AARP, those liberal fools pushed obummer Kare, Comrad!

My wife tells me I'm backwoods country all the time. Funny thing is she uses my silly little phrases all the time and acts more like me the longer we're together. Took me 15 years to get her where she is. Another 15 and she'll be fully converted.
Haaaa! Same thing here! She is not only using my phrases, "Lost as last year's easter egg," and a few others AND She now claims they were her "Kentucky-girl" phrases all along, that I ADOPTED FROM HER! She's too pretty to argue with, so I let it go

who is that guy in the reflection there??????????
OD and 37s would be just right on there. To big n you loose the driveability.
Guy in the reflection is my neighbor...old crotchety guy that nobody likes ;-) OK, then goal will be 37's and OD in color!
26624
« on: June 22, 2015, 10:09:43 PM »
Just drive it another year or so then paint it OD green. Scratches add character.
Man if you only knew I've wanted to paint that thing OD for some time, but the M.R.S. unit is really against that idea. She said she looks hillbilly enough driving around in the truck the way it is. Funny, but the concept never occurred to me!

I was using the short shackles that Jungle sends with his kit which are 3.75" hole to hole, I bought a set that were one inch(4.75") longer and that is what I am running now. The pictures are of the 3.75" set up.
OK, that info helps. I was thinking of starting with the 4.5" shackles when I drop in those 64" rear springs and go from there

I'm not really one to get excited about cosmetic stuff, but this is still a pretty new truck and still only has some 47,000 miles. So I started looking at the scratches which are EVERYWHERE thanks to that unforgiving farm "road"

I got on the rest of the undercarriage as well, attending to a few rust spots on the frame and suspension from last winter's salt fall and dusting of snow flurries

Those 35's look tiny!
That truck is begging for some 38's! or even 40's
Well, I couldn't stand looking at Shawn's rear cover rusting, so I got on it and prudied it all up again!

That went right in with little fuss.
And now the air springs are helping once again.

Pac Air, a Canadian company makes excellent air bags. I purchased a replacement unit directly from them. They are friendly as well!

Next up on this general maintenance day was to repair/replace the defective PAcAir air bag on the right rear
Obviously it had been abrading against the U-bolt plate

Here's my recommendation for fittings: Trash that junk AirDog supplies and get yourself a simple 3/8" brass barb or nipple fitting. By using that, it has a smaller base circle and therefore the socket hex which is going to leak, can be accessed
I am pointing to that pesky pipe plug in one of the photos
26635

Reinstalled but messy
26636
« on: June 22, 2015, 09:36:31 PM »
Today I decided to tear into this Air Dog 165 (again) to see what's wrong with it this time.
It started leaking, from up on top somewhere, so I am betting on a failed O-ring or something complicated like that. No chance it would be a loose filter or something simple.
This Air Dog is a poor product plain and simple. I will not endorse it in any manner at all. When I first installed it (New) I chased a pesky leak. Turned out to be this 1/8" pipe thread plug with a socket head. Nice thing about it is that you have to pull out the line sitting right beside it to get at it. Strike one for poor engineering. Someone could have moved it over 2mm and not have required introducing another leak to fix that leak.
Now a lot of people have had that hex leak, so that is a systemic problem with the product. When I pulled the main line to get to the little plug, you guessed it, I had to drop the whole thing...more work!
Wlee later on one then both of the 3/8" pipe fittings started seeping, then leaking. I sealed them (Again) with quality Teflon tape. Then the motor quit. Then Air DOg would not warranty it and I had to spend another $200+ dollars on a motor that failed inside 40,000 miles!
Real piece of junk, this Air Dog, and no, I don't like it!
So a couple weeks ago, while driving back from the farm, I am smelling diesel fuel. Yep, Air Dog again! So I just unplugged it and ran around with a light pedal, until a few days ago when the motor would not start for about 30 min. I had to crawl underneath and plug in the motor to get the engine running, then leak a puddle of fluid all over the parking lot.
So today I decided to undo everything that those idiots did with this unreliable product. Basically, replace the fittings with my own, seal the thing with my O-rings and so forth.
I discovered the little pipe plug was seeping again, the big supply line fitting was leaking and the pump itself was leaking. Additionally that expensive blue hose they supplied, now 3 years old is all cracked, dry rotted and peeling... What a bunch of junk!
Pulling the motor off again, I discovered the failed O-ring. It looks like an installation error, so that is on me, but it lasted since early winter, why did it fail now?

That looks awesome Nate!
Interestingly, I had some brisket on Saturday. The center was also chewy. I'm not a big brisket eater, but is that sort of the norm?

Is the truck going back original color or are you painting it olive drab?

I figure Norm took another trip out of town and Ms Kay is busy putting the crew cab together. I'm sure she will fill us in when she is done.
Judging from what we have seen her do so far, I wouldn't put it past her

Little update, I haven't done much but I plan to buy new rims and tires some time this month. In the meantime I've been thinking of stuff I could do and water/meth injection came to mind. I want it mostly for the mpg gains. Thoughts on it?
On a gasser makes little to no power, except that it allows you to turn up the boost if supercharged and advance the timing (delays onset of preignition). But on a diesel will add 100-150 ft lbs of torque and as much as 75HP to a healthy late diesel and improve mileage a point or maybe two.

It's all academic. With the looming repair bill on Big Red, and demanded work down at the farm, I'll be lucky to be able to afford butter for me pancakes!
I just really liked that gun. Best feeling 7.62 AR I have handled to date. Started with the DPMS AP4, the started liking the Ruger SR762, but this gun feels one step above the Ruger which was a better gun than the DPMS in my opinion.
Might find a way to stick it in the M4 mount I'll install in the loader and the tractor, you never know!
Besides when it comes to 7.62 shooting, I seem to always stray back to my M1A NM gun. Just a sweetheart of a shooting toy there.

I like it!
We need a build of one of these later Tahoe/Burbs.
My family has owned two, a 04 Z-71Burb and a 08 Yukon Denali. Both outstanding people movers, but the wife would not allow me to do anything to them...I wanted to do something with them soooooo badly!

X-rays showing a slight reduction of fluid on her lungs! YIPPEE!
Keep praying for her.
