Trans American Trail Adventure trip 2021
« on: February 27, 2021, 09:27:13 PM »
Ok, tentatively thinking June 29th meetup at my shop in Dacono, CO. You all can camp there if you like? Gated facility with water, Rv dump, showers, kitchenette, WiFi and some electricity depending on who shows up. Depart morning of June 30th for a week. Starting North East WY up in Newcastle WY and hitting the trail for a week. No set pace, we’ll take it as it comes and see how far we can get.

Ideally we’d like at least 3 other trucks besides Don and I

Who’s in?

Possibility of a bike or two joining us trucks.....

OK, S, I'm in
I'll arrive either the 29th or the 30th or the 31st of June or the 32nd
Aviators can do that sort of thing
It's tricky
Takes crossin' the international dateline a couple times, with one bein' in reverse, inverted in a parallel universe
But it works I think!

So, I'm speaking for Shawn here, because I just split the topic to make it easier for
Quote
old cops
to find (Sorry JR ;-)

This is the 2021 Realman-GLO, or GLO/Realman Adventure cruise.

The honorable Shawn is the guy in charge of activities :police: (if things happen to go awry.) Of course I am in charge if everyone has a great time and it all goes well! :cheesy:

This is a reset from the trip last year that got cancelled due to some government cover-up of a Chinese germ warfare attack ,

S-Please publish your (correct) version of the itinerary you have in mind. :undecided:

From memory: :blank:

Day 1 meet and greet at Shawn's shop with overnight supported camping at that site. It is a gated business park with water, showers, some power and some other things. :azn:

We depart the next day toward Douglas Wyoming where we enter the Trans-American Trail system. If it works out I may have a place of interest to visit there, TBD...

Thereafter for 7-8 days we will drive along the trail departing only to refuel or purchase more steak, wine, and shrimp. :beercheers:

I am not sure where we end up this adventure but who really cares? :likebutton:

There will be campfires burned, quoffee drank, lies told, good food eaten, not many showers and an armee story or two that begins with, "And there I was..."

There may even be some bible talk, that is if Shawn can get his sermon on kindness, sensitivity, and loving one's neighbor all put together!!!!!!!

Ya, forget that, what was I thinkin?

From what Shawn tells me the trail will be beautiful and quite long but not all that challenging. :likebutton: This is all about fellowship, building memories, and having fun with some of America's most majestic vistas as a backdrop.

We should have T-shirts for the group by then.

We will likely have a mix of 4X4's...some capable like Shawn's jeep and some that can barely make it like my Burb, and possibly some adventure bikes as well. People who do not have a vehicle could possibly ride along and sleeping space may not be a problem. I will have my small off road camper, and a 3-man roof top tent. It also has a walled annex below the tent that could hold a couple more.

Anyway that is what I know for now. Not sure if we are headed east, north, south, up or down, and I don't really care. Ever spit on your hand, then slap it together,  :facepalm:and use that to determine which direction you were heading? This is sort of like that.

Please make it known here who is interested in joining this fun and adventurous group.

Inclusive dates: 29 June -7 or 8 July.

Cost per person is $1,000 or $10,000, or free.
You pick which entry fee that best meets your expectations! :likebutton:

We meet n' start here:

Dave, I do and it was a whopping $8 to get all the way points for WY trail complete. Sam makes his living running this trans America trail site. I believe from what I can see he’s put a lot of time and effort into it. With that said it’s not something I want to publish online and undermine his hard work. You can also get hard copy maps too via his site.

I’ll add I think Don summed it up pretty well. The trail starts north of Douglas, WY then heads SW towards Laramie and then back NW towards Yellowstone National Park. We’re assuming full size trucks that are 4x4 capable can make the trip. In the event it gets too crazy, we’ll detour and by pass the more extreme sections. I have quite a bit of recovery gear and onboard air available. We have no set itinerary and I think leaving it open ended is best. I’d love for these to be an annual trip and run different trails every year.

As far as sleeping I think I’m buying an enclosed hammock and I’ll tie it up to Dons truck at one end and mine at the other. Expenses should be limited to fuel and food, maybe we find a campground to take a shower at some point?

I will already be home from vacation by then. I also seriously doubt that my truck would handle the trails you are talking about.

This is very tempting. I was originally planned to take my daughter on a trip to the Yukon this year as her graduation get out of the house celebration. This could be a substitute, if I can get the blazer ready, or a different vehicle prepped in time

It’s tempting to toss a bike in on the trip but seeming the trip is point A to point B.  The off-road trip would require a ride back to my other vehicle.

I also fall into the list of don’t plan on takin a duramax on a off-road trip.

Might have a place in Douglas you could park your truck if need be.

I’m fine with it, check local laws as I’m not responsible.

Assuming Ken isn’t coming (even though I think he should bring his sq Cummins truck which still most likely needs a front axle upgrade) so we don’t have to cover that hammers aka 1911’s are not allowed......

Worth noting we will not be on private property. It is all state or federal ground.

Charles hit me up this morning asking if the bus could do the trails? His truck is long but on 6” lift and 35’s also has that rear grizzly locker. I’m just now starting to dive in depth into gps way points.

Worth noting there are three mountains areas. The most extensive looks to be last leg which we may of may not make it to. The other two look to be canyons I believe from quick glance. Majority of this trip is more open space I believe. It’s wy not Colorado’s crazy crawler trails is my initial thought. Realize Don is driving his burb with a camper, if he can make it most of you can I believe with a slightly modded truck. Again, I’ve never run this system but that is my initial take.

Gas / Food / Motel available every 100 miles or so. Trying to figure out camping, may be a pop along trail for night type of thing.

I’m going to contact wy, here in Colorado you need a sticker (tax stamp) for many trail systems.

No 1911's
My youngest pre-Ranger is goin' to have an issue with that.

It's the only pistol he has. When you see him down at the farm, that gun is always on his hip.

He tells me that when my glock is used to literally save the entire world in a great war, he will switch to it. Until then, he's wearin' his 1911.
He's an old soul. At 16 he listens to Frank Sinatra while working on his Chevy truck, and hunts (Only) with a 30-06.

What did the commie have to say? Jealous of your mullet...or neck beard?

Don, I like your son. Shawn should aspire to be more like him. Chevys and 1911s. He will be a great leader some day.

Thanks Ken!
He better be. Leading men in the Army is no small asking. Those men are important. I have taught him for years to sacrifice for them. They eat first, you last. They sleep, you stay up. you take the arse chewing, not them and so forth. He does all that. I watch him on the football team. Was captain of the varsity defense as a 10th grader. Coach told me in private once that that boy was one of the top leaders he had ever seen on the field in 23 years of coaching. He got home from school today and turned around and went off to lift at a gym he and his brother joined all by themselves. This one is run by an ex frog-man and recon marine.
Ya, I'm a proud dad and boasting on him a bit but I guess I'm partial to all my boys.
Oh and he is going to marry one of Shawn's daughters some day. Just don't know which one yet. Maybe after this trip we will have a better idea.
You coming on this thing???

Ya, no one like that is allowed. I will be checking everyone before they leave with this group.
They will need to:
1. Have a brain (like one is actually present)
2. Be a member of any political party as long as its republican or libertarian.
3. Love Trump
4. Be able to name several V8 engines and talk about them briefly.
5. When asked what their favorite truck is, they must answer Chevy, Ford, Mopar.
Anyone dropped off or met by anyone driving a Volvo, BMW, anything electric, or having fewer than 4 cylinders will not be travelling with us.
Anyone with fewer than 1000 rounds of practice ammo will also be sent packing.
You must be a:
Meat eater
Have no clue what quiche is.
Be able to name the big wars where the US kicked communists arse

Well, I could go on but you all get the picture.
No winners, no gays, No one who has to face any particular direction when praying or any people who believe any color skin is any better than any other one, and no one who doesn't mind getting and staying dirty.
Oh and anyone who is a fascist who calls others fascist. They will not be welcome either.

Street legal kit with a plate makes that easy, but I’m thinking it’s probably much of the similar option as a bike.  To many miles for a one way direction.

That would be interesting

Turbo Cam-Am

Like 180 HP

I'll bring the large med kit...Includes an inflatable helicopter to get you to the trauma center if needed.

But never the less, something like that would be cool, but you would have to have some support...someone willing to meet you with a trailer to get you home. Could be done.

I’m pretty sure I’m not planning on this trip.

If I had an overland type vehicle sure be easier.  Otherwise to many logistical issues to think much about.

Duane was telling me not too long ago, that there are more SxS's on the road and running around in town, than trucks/cars

I think they are licensed/ tagged though

In Utah you can take them anywhere but the highway as long as you have a street kit, horn, turn signals and so forth, see them in the drive ups and the gas stations and parking lots

Pretty sure Shawn I’m not strokin that check just yet.

Dave, you have no excuse unless you get a job by then. Even you truck could do it with those wide shiny wheels

Who is going to see if the boy is 16 or not? Just don't carry in town or around "other" campers. You do have the right to protect yourself in national parks.

Ammo, no problem, long as there's water it can be dumped on someone for a shower.

Heck, a meet near SLC and head out.

Now I need to check my schedule as I think that is the week of scout camp, if it goes. Great alternative though!!

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

My youngest is stoked about this trip when I told him. He said to heck with scout camp if we do this.

Get it done JR! I have a local older retired guy who will most likely be joining us for the first half of the trip and dropping out somewhere around Laramie as he has to be in Cali for a grand sons B-day. Good guy, drives a JKU and has tear drop off road trailer. I put him on to this link.
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

OK, so let's do a tally of who is/maybe coming

Shawn + possibly 1 or 2 girlies
Big D mit Frau and 1 pre-ranger
JR + 1 AWOL Scout (or 2??)  Possible
Little Don (related to Big Don)
Air Force Dave    Possible
Salt Lake Dave   Possible
Tex      Talkin' bout it...  Possible
America Mike  Possible??
Shawn's Hippy friend  Possible

Who else? Who have I missed?

And lets start to move from the possible to:
1. Sure, I'm in
or
2. Well, my wife won't let me, and I'm kinda scared...

Cause

Me and the tough Denver based guy want a head count and I'll soon need a confirmed numba of folks for the T-shirt purchase.

I'll come up with the design and post it up for your disapproval, which I will toss like all of you'lls advice and print it anyway

So about the T, here's my thoughts

Across the front the Real Man compass thing, see attachment
And the words emblazoned somewhere: RealMan Adventure Cruise 2021

On the back we'll print up any sponsors like GLO or is it GLEO??, RMTWS, and anyone else wanting to get their organization on there who is helping

And I'll pray on it and put some appropriate scripture on it. Maybe we can get Matt to join and he can supply the scripture recommendation.

I will likely just bring the T's to Shawn's shop and hand them out there

So let's tighten up the shot group just a little more

I'm just curious who the tough Denver based guy is. Hope he joins the forum to counter the hippy Denver based guy.

Well sorry to say, but I won’t be making the trip. My truck is completely stock, my wife isn’t into off-roading , and a long trip for the event. Sounds like a lot of fun just the same.

What does this trail rate for 4x4? Like on a 1-5 so maybe someone on the fence can decide.

My understanding even a mildly moded 4x can do the rubicon now as they have put "bypasses" on the real hard parts.

Unless someone has a passenger seat I’m sure I won’t be making this trip.
