Gents:
What does everyone do for shop organization? My shop is a mess (embarrassing picture to follow), and since I rent in every new place the Army moves me to, I don't want to install anything permanent. I have a couple of shelving units holding fuel cans, all those PCS rubbermaids, etc., but I need to do more to have working floor space. Thoughts?

Oh if you could see mine now. About 1/2 the floorspace is clear, but you cannot see the tops of a 4x8 on saw horses and 2 work benches. Ad I do have shelves filled to the max.
Why my projects are at a standstill until this is remedied. Well, cept for the fence, patio, solar system,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Mine is a disaster as well. Will add embarrassing pic also. Will be a few days, renovating farm property to sell.
I have some 12-16" plywood shelving units. About four feet wide, four high, keeps them portable. They hold all sorts of miscellaneous fluids sprays etc. Tool box and benches on most of the three walls.
I added in an overhead shelf about a Rubbermaid down from the roof, and the depth of the long edge of it. This is overhead of the benches about 8 feet up the side walls. It works reall well to get rid of the not so regularly used stuff.

I have overheads in the second garage, filled also.

I moved about every 3 years for a while. I learned to keep everything in those crates with the bifold tops that you get at the big box stores. Then use shelving units so that I can stack them neatly. If you can afford it's used industrial shelving is the way to go. Knocks down and will hold 1500lbs per shelf and has 5 shelves on 7 ft frame

I should also add the fact I run a two year rule.
Simply put if it sits that long I don't need its clutter any longer.
The only exceptions to the two year rule are tools, building materials, and steel.
This helps curb the hoarding to some extent.

Both sides of the house. One shows the chimney I am just about done with the stucco stone and the side where I am going to build an overhang to the fence for trailers, motorcycles and such.
Other side shows the 4 pallets of pavers for the pool and the Samurai.

Here is the back where the fence is in mid build. Little over half done, you can see the 2 new treated 2x4 where I am fencing as you read this. Then down the side around the shed where the pavers are. Done up to there where my TH is parked. In fact the dolly you see is the corner of the TH.

And I have a fair size lot compared to some. Behind those pallets are the axles for Spartan and a HD rear bumper for the max. The front bumper is in the garage ifo the XR600.

Oh. I'm also a fan of pegboard and hooks in addition to the shelves and bins.

Once I am no longer PCSing all the time the ceiling racks will definitely be done. I have a few large steel racks that work well, a couple of tool boxes, rolling carts, and 2 stationary benches.

Have to move these around. Move the 6bt to the 5.3 stand and store the 5.3 and 1.6 so I can move.

Tell me about it!! Did 2 more sections of fence tonight, 3 to go on the back side, the longest.
Get the bench in garage cleared and spartan running, then I can lift the Max.

JR, if you need some more room, I'll come and pick up that new compressor and keep it clean and lubed for you.
What kind of lathe is that in the back, the green one?

It don't matter how big or small your shop is it gets cluttered. We have a 80x80 and sometimes its a maze to get from one side to the other. Right now it's actually not too bad. Had to build a loft the legnth of the building 13 ft wide there is a lot of crap up there.

That's my shop. Living on the road makes you realize what things are absolutely necessary and what you can live without.
JR. The cart you've got the Cummins on. Did you build that? I'm going to need something for mine before to long and I've been researching stands and carts to see what's out there.

Started to clean up already so it's not quite as bad as it was.

14 x 22 it sucks, but it's all I have at this place so it covers as all shops.
Weld shop, fab shop, wood shop, reloading shop etc.
