I went up again this thur/fri attempting to remedy some of my hast filling and finish the road.

I scraped down the highest piles of loose dirt. Then I used the rocky cut from the road and the west wall and layered it about a foot high. Smoothing some as I layed it and pushing the softer dirt into it. Right now I may have a spot that about 1.5-2ft deep that is filled, but not where the building goes.

Now I need to get water onto it and running over it all I can. The L45 with loader and backhoe goes at well over 4 tons, but the floatation tires are not the best. A load in the bucket and the smaller front tires are probably the best. I may have to trailer in some water but getting the well is the best.

1st pic is where I left it Friday.

2nd pic is the area I have to dig out the most. Looks soft but just a little topsoil really.

I got within about 30ft of getting the road through. I am actually cutting it in short of the plans so I keep the trees there and do less digging. Either way I will need a culvert for the runoff. Plus I need to cut a 2/1 bank for the road edges and there is a lot of rock there.

My height is almost dead on at 5142ft, give or take the GPS altitude app.

I need better rear lights for the backhoe and bucket lights for the loader. Have some 60watt side loaders coming from amazon, but they ended up in SF for some reason before I left. Going to add a couple floods on the pushbar and another on the bucket itself.

Need to find a ram for the thumb too. As handy as it is it is a hassle to move up down wile working. Pluming is there, just need a couple hoses and quick connects.

Temps up there are great. Normally 10-15 cooler than the hottest in reno or here. A tad colder too and windier. Around 90 when really hot and in the mid 20's at night when your in anyway. Heated and cooled shop will be nice. Oh, I hate the wind. Breezes are fine but I really hate wind!

Need to DL but I have more video too. I can't see real time but I can fly good enough to record.

Thinking about a regular man door for the container, just not sure where. It will be moved to the pad when finished. I may get another container too with a cover, but later down the road, building is top dog right now.

So for the door, not sure if I put it on the side about center or on the main door (removing outer door locks soon). I just need to get in and out and keep critters out too. Good steel door with window, steel frame ready to go. Cut a hole, tack it on and done.

So what do you think of placement?

I like it In the center of the side. Exterior swing as not to interfere with anything inside.

Cut your hole and weld in either 2x2 or 2x4 sq tubing for a door frame. Standard metal building door and jamb will fit in. I added angle iron over the top as a water deflector to cut down on leaks

The better the compaction now, the better the job next year. Do it right once and be done. You want 95% compaction in the top two ft. You will be spending lots of money on a cement concrete slab, you don't need a bunch of cracking in a year. Compact all the are you disturb and be done.

Well, got over a milestone this weekend. The road got cut all the way through. Neighbor kid came over with and bigger backhoe and knocked it out, well 95% of it. His tractor had fuel issues (clogged banjo) and stopped running with a short section not cut.

Basically he dug and I moved the dirt. Was great fill being so much rock but have a way to go on the pad and compaction.

I do have 1 seasonal drain issue, so I stopped and got a little drain pipe.

I ran off the road too dozing off, came close to rolling it. :facepalm: Was close, need more sleep, only issue was another tire issue,,,,,,,,,,

The when changing it, I had a visitor. My son has the rattle now :beercheers:

Also made a tech glove  :laugh:

Finally about 2300 I had the whole road cleaned off. Other tractor was still there so couldn't do an official drive up.

Picture aren't great, but more will follow next trip.

If that pipe plugs or is too small for the amount of water, will your pad start flooding or just cut the top of road out? Do you get heavy flows or just light steady rains? Is the pipe smooth wall inside or grooved, less chance of plugging if it is smooth.

Yes, fill and compress is the big thing now. Soon as the fill is close I will use a laser level and the box blade. Thinking about adding some bolt on tires to the BB to help with leveling. The way these float, the wheels will help with leveling vs just the butt feeling approach.

Trailer, I ran off the road (dozey me) and almost rolled it. Thank GOD it was just a slight taper and I woke up!! Haven't checked the tire yet. Can't see any damage but it isn't holding air for long.

We get rain, but the runoff isn't bad there from what I can see. That is the main runoff for the little nook I am building in and the peaks around me are just about 100 ft away. Pipe is a smooth 12in, should be fine.

This has been fun with the tires.

Had to take the trailer tire in, to bad for a repair at home. Was done fast will know more in the AM if I have a new tire or a repaired tire,,,,,,,,,,

Guess my runoff the road was harder than I thought. Found this damage and a low tire on the DMax today. Little screw in there, plugged right up but the bumper took a beating when I ran off the road!

About 3/8-1/2 tread now, but the rears are torn up pulling my little hill with a trailer and no 4x4.

Worse thing for em now is they are chunking pulling the trailer up the hill and me falling asleep.

Trailer tire was a loss. Ripped a nice hole in it so no repair.

Went up for a couple days, got some done but not as much as I want.

On the way up I got a Kubota GL7000 diesel generator. Runs great but needs some TLC. Was a bare to load going at 600lbs, but a neighbor had a skid steer and saved the day. Had to take the rack off. For the low price ($800) figured something was up. New these are 6k, this has 4200 hrs and smokes just when started. Ran a planer and compressor and never even loaded up. Might have got it for less if I knew the battery was $140!!!

Think it has a bad head gasket, after flushing it spits out the overflow. Have to cut the fuel to stop it so something is up with the auto shutdown. Also want to add remote start. You can't even hear it in the container.

Still think I got a fair deal even if I have to do the head.

Cleaned up the road and worked on the culvert some. Lots more rocks to gather.

Was going to remove the bypass but figured until the well is in, it might be a better access for the rigs.

It has a handle and a wheel kit, but doubt it will go back on.

Building a little shed (8x6) for the quad, gen and air comp. Guy next prop has all the wood for free so just have to get metal for the roof.

Yep, think I got a good buy anyway. DL the manual to tear it down. Start/Stop remote is $300.

Just got an adapter for the 220 to welder cord. Found the Ridge welder needs a gun, but I have the stock one off my miller since I added a longer one.

Got all I need for the well/septic permit. Have to do in person, probably next week. Think both permits are around $2k.

So looking for some $ perspective. The homes I submit permits for I pay about $14k for the house. 

What do you expect your shop/house to be.  Did the DE need anything different with it being a shop/house?

Isn't it just wonderful that you have to get permits and they only cost about 2 grand. And that covers what, a bunch of crap from an inspector that most likely knows less about the job than the contractor doing the work. I know I will be in for problems here shortly  when I put this place up for sale. The new place, well those people got permits from the county and State to add a heat pump to the heating system, along with most every thing else they did to the home or property (California soles). Around here, you can't even add an electrical plug in, in place of wiring to a non existing garbage disposal without a permit from the State. Oh well, once I get into the new place and get a shop built , with permits, I really don't care what happens within this state.  Not quite as bad as California YET. The county/state even has zoning that this area of the island, you can't improve the view by dropping a few trees. Better to ask for forgiveness than ask for approval. To darn old to really follow all the new
rules, and would rather tell the inspector to leave than follow instructions from whomever sent them out here.

I guess Idaho is going the same way. New neighbor already having issues with permits. County wants an environmental impact/water runoff write-up since we're on the side of a small mountain. They're fighting it because build site is somewhat flat.

Unless he is changing something who cares? I was told it was a federal thing for everyone, but I doubt it.

I just put that conduit in for my road and the seasonal runoff. Sure that will come up sooner or later.

 Mason County will want water quality and impact statement for my garage also. Too close to the saltwater, and too close to the creek and slope. Not many other spots to put it so a good arm wrestling match is a coming.

Finally got it all together for the well permit. Drawing I had done seemed to leave a lot out, so I did my own with all info. Should put it in this Friday.

Got a floorplan worked out, needs tweaking for sure but I like so far.

Roof is 40x100', 15' patio, building is 40x85, bays are 21'. 1st bay is the living area.

Here is the basic structure showing doors. Green is living area and it will be a solid wall to the shop ceiling both for storage and a fire wall.

Roll ups are now (1)12'x14' and (2)10'x10' with tracts to the ceiling keeping the 16' wall open. Center height is 21' with 2 skylights in each bay.

Would it be a bad increase to have the OH doors opposite each other the same 10x12?  Driving straight thru might be handy.
