Plenty of great War Movies, but from the list which one (s) do you like?
-
Hard to narrow it down.
-
Not that anyone cares, but my favorite less-than-serious war movie would probably be Kelly's Heroes.
Another good one is the Great Escape.
-
Hard to overcome recency bias... As Lone Survivor and American Sniper were excellent.
Some of my less recent favorites are We Were Soldiers, Blackhawk Down, and Saving Private Ryan... I guess Crimson Tide too.
If I had to pick one favorite... Lone Survivor.
One where the movie sucked, but the book was incredible... Unbroken.
Cool thread! Interested to hear others, there's prob lots of awesome movies I haven't seen.

I liked "act of valor" not that the acting was that great but some of the gun action scenes were pretty intense for a non mil guy like myself
-
There was a movie I saw when I was a young lad. Made me want to become an Apache pilot, but that didn't happen. But I liked the movie, because I liked the Apache, coincidentally I still do like that bird.
Firebirds with Tommy Lee Jones and Nicolas Cage.
-
I vaguely recall that movie......
-
Bridges at Toko-Ri and Run Silent Run Deep.
-

I also liked Iron Eagle. Another one of the 80s classics. lol
-
Bridge over River Kwai is a good one too.
My favorite has to be Full Metal Jacket. R. Lee Ermy is tha man!
Patton Ranks up there as a close second.
Boys from Company C was also cool when they sat on the hill and called in the strike to watch a million dollars worth of fireworks.
-
Oh and for humor, Stripes was pretty good.
"have either of you ever been convicted of a felony?" "Convicted?........No"

OK, Ken, good ones!
So,
What Motorcycle did Steve McQueen ride to jump the border fence?
-
Oh, and by the way, I gave everyone 4 votes each!
-
I would have listed "Brave Heart" if there were any Ladies on the forum...
-
I almost said Harley, but pretty sure it was a triumph or other euro bike.
-

I think Netflix or Hulu might have them. Also, I think you can watch them on youtube.
-
Indian
-
And I believe he bought or kept that bike after the movie, right?
-
Oops. My bad. Inter webs says tr6 trophy 650 triumph.
-
As a kid I loved the Chuck Norris war movies as well as the Rambo movies. Now I like a more historical correct movie. Why is American Sniper not on the list?
-
Triumph! I wear a Steve McQueen commemorative triumph jacket when out riding!

Can't see a list from my phone, but my favorite recent war movie is Fury. Kelly's Heroes is definitely at the top of my list, Odd Ball is awesome. Another good one is The Tank. That Soviet TC was crazy!

Go figure. lol
I would say Lone survivor and American Sniper are my most favorite recent ones, because I read their books long before the movies, and I must say, Hollywood didn't butcher them up too much.
Fury is pretty darn good as well.
-
For movies not listed I liked The Guns of Navarone, The Deer Hunter. Lots of good ones for sure.
-
Fiight of the Intruder was decent as well.
Platoon Leader was ok.

OK there Armor branch
Here's the question
Test you a bit on this one
What tank was it that they used for the movie?
Give me the type and some information.
I was Armor before I was Aviation.
Still have a couple stretched and flattened vertebrae from changing tracks on an M-60...
GO ahead, ask your buddies...You will need help on this one! ;-)))

I had to watch that movie last night (the Beast), and I honestly didn't remember watching it before...I guess Stephen Baldwin was in a movie.
...oh, the Tank question was way too easy.

A T-55 that was captured by the Israelis during the Yom Kippur War, and modified through the addition of a 105mm main gun in place of the original 100mm. It was re-designated by the Israelis as a Ti-67. There were also several T-55s used in the film.

It was a T-55 that was captured by the Israelis and redesignated the Ti-67 and used for the movie. It was modified by them and in place of the 100mm main gun a 105 mm gun was emplaced.
I had to cheat and use wikipedia-fu to get most details. But I did recognize T-55 in the trailer I watched.

SHOT......

SHOT......
Not just a single round, either. Bobby came through and put a second round ON the target for me! Thanks, Bobby!
-
and the helicopter used in the film was not a real Mi-8, but an Aerospatiale SA.321 Super Frelon. :)

Very Good!
The addition of the L-7 M-68, 105mm British cannon and some key automotive changes made all the difference going from a so-so tank to a pretty good one.

Looks like the Private has a commanding lead over the General
We'll let it cook a bit longer...

The Israelis have done a lot of good work upgrading war machines they inherited from other countries. Look at what they did with the M4 Sherman, adding a high velocity 75mm gun (M-50) and later 105mm gun (M-51) coupled with a Cummins diesel. With the gun upgrade and later addition of reactive armor, this WW2 veteran served Israel into the 1980s.

I thought "Come and See" was a very interesting flick.
