Nice Matt!
I see another build thread coming...

The leak wasn't sitting right with me, and I figured I NEEDED to spend/waste a night to determine what was happening.

I too am glad I went this route.

Now, a buddy of mine also has a leak.
He figures his is from the 90* elbow at the oil cooler based on the pictures i have and what he can "see".
My follies have helped answer a lot of leak questions...

So, as it turns out, we may be down there this weekend! Our boy is out of the field for the weekend, but going back out on Monday. Time is short before he is shipped overseas, so it looks like we may have to seize the moment

So this am I drop off my youngest for a overnight scout trip. I hear a radial engine, look up and see a P-47 razorback doing a flyby. They have events all the time at Nutt Tree Airport, but never seen one of these before. He wasn't even pushing it and I bet it was doing around 300. For those of you not Familiar with the 47, I have read several times how the pilots would watch the "shock wave" dacing over the wings in a shollow dive.

Got a couple pics when he swung around to land. Saw him later over the city in a tight turn wing wagging. Looked scary he was going really slow.

Not the best pics, only had my cell.

Went to Omaha yesterday for some shopping and hang out with the wife. Stopped off at Duluth Trading. I really like the fire hose pants. Anyway, the store I visit in Sioux Falls SD is really laid back and always packed with good people. But it looks like the Omaha store went woke. I won't go back to that one again. Mask Nazis with their pronouns on the name tags. It was pretty busy but nothing like the other store especially for a Saturday afternoon.

After that we stopped off at a small record store. I walked in and got the usual hi how are you stuff then the gal asked if I wanted a free beer. I must have had a puzzled look she's like yea here have a beer while you browse. Got me a can of some local brew. Not too bad either. I bought the ZZ Top Eliminator album and an old Richard Pryer record.

Been putting the house back together after the 6 week paint job, swapping out light and light fixtures, swapping out all the ivory wall plates, switches, duplex receptacles for white and adding some wifi light switches.  Also ordered a new sink and faucet for the downstairs powder room,  sink will require granite cutting so we’ll see how that goes.  Still waiting on the wife to pick tile. She brings in a decorator Wednesday to break the analysis paralysis.

You should do neither of the above options. You should think outside the box, or like Don, take the box, fill it with tannerite and shoot it.

Dealership costs money, crawling underneath is just uncomfortable. Install a lift and youndont have to Go to the dealership or crawl, and you make more use of your beautiful garage.  Problem solved.   :)

if you have the $$$ and dont want to get fuel all over yourself, i say take it to the stealership and have them look everything over and rotate the tires as well.......

i found a 4 pack of fuel filters and ac delco oil filters on amazon for a great price.  i dont know what your interval you go with, but i typically stick to every 10k miles for both fuel and oil.  i take it back to where i bought the tires and have them rotate every 5k (for warranty purposes).

You’ll have to send me a link to those filters

I picked up some amsoil to keep on hand.   I don’t mind doing it but boy is it a good reason to take the day off to get the truck serviced

I don’t think tire rotation is hit yet, between the two sets of wheel n tires with maybe 4K miles

But it’s 65 degrees today here so maybe time to put the summer set back on

I'm an "A" type person and always need to be doing something. Because of this I have been working many free hours for the Department of Defense because my supervision made the decision that one person (me) can do the work of 3 people did last year. The 3rd person retired at the end of 2020 and the 2nd person was resigned in May of 2021. Very hard for me to do but for family, self and service I will only do my 8 hours a day and be done, if it doesn't get done well it will be there tomorrow. I just may try to show up more.

You gm guys will like this I suppose…..

So this is a late model AAM GM 14 bolt 10.5 rear axle that I narrowed and re-spindled to accept 40 spline double ended shafts. Customer who happens to work for a large nationally known performance diesel shop as an engineer is going to be running a supercharged compounded stand alone 2017 LP5 and goal is 2k rwhp. Axle is getting mark Williams spool, shafts and I believe wilwood brakes. R&P / install kit is Yukon

For several reasons I’d take this over an 11.5, I sold him a load bolted GLO cover as well. He’s going to tig weld the tubes to the housing and the 4 link brackets will be tied to each other side to side along with attaching it to center chunk. I’ll post pics up in future when I assemble it, it will be powdered by then too.

Can you buy spindles, or you reuse the originals?

What's the benefits of being double ended? (I feel as though I should know that one, but maybe forgot).

Stock spindles won’t accept the larger diameter 40 spline shafts, oem being 30

Double spline allows you to run a drive flange on the hub like a front axle. Stronger connection versus a flanged end on the shaft.

That is really such a hard concept to adapt to.  We as men try to go above and beyond. Try to accomplish the tasks before us but…. I personally forget my first priority is to provide for my family and besides financially ( wife has that covered ) I need to physically be there. Workin 60 hr weeks to make some one else wealthy is a terrible plan

Very true Dave. This hit me the last couple of months with finding out the wife had a heart attack, we have no idea when and the doctor can't come up with the why. She also had and still has some challenges after her sugery. Nothing can replace family and work would have someone sitting at my desk with in two weeks if I die today.

Shawn, makes sense. Didn't realize the flange was a weak point just because I've never seen one fail, but I only see everyday run of the mill trucks.

Oklawall, although I understand your position, and each person has their own situation, and priorities can change, I also believe that if it weren't for the men working themselves to an early grave, this wouldn't be the greatest country to ever exist, or even, civilization would still be stuck in caves waiting for our savior to arrive.
Even though I do work hard for other people, I work hard for my own satisfaction as the priority.
That being said, I have a healthy family at the moment.

Well my old computer doesn't like the link..I did have the vaccine, and now I find myself trying to buy all the things I have wanted for years but really can't afford. Too old for bank problems, but they might be coming

Ken, the double spline shafts are typically made from 300m too, so this is main reason it’s stronger.
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

True Ken and you are blessed to have a healthy family right now. I most likely go back to putting in the 60 hours. With my job I support the men and women in harms way and my love for them. I guess this step is more of a time management thing so that I can focus on God and my wife. Just not enough time in the day for studying the word, care of my wife and the extra work time. Something had to give.

Was supposed to be a Boy Scout meeting tonight but nobody showed up. Basketball tournament today. So Zane learned how to pack bearings and mount new tires. He even torqued the lug nuts by himself. Pretty good for 11 year old. Troop trailer is ready to hit the road again.
