Just passed Dave#1's stomping grounds. Was going to text him hi and bye but figured he might be crashed... 10:30pm local time.

$540.00 in fuel so far. 769 miles.
Averaging 7.5 mpg.
Only 700 more miles to go. Lol

Cheapest fuel so far, $5.45 in Elwood, Utah. At home it was $5.30

I feel for you Ken. Going to my prop for the weekend runs me around $300. I do bring a little back in a few cans. It is mid 5s in NV, but well over 6, nearing 7 around here right now. There is a semi local casino where it is $5.80 if I need it. Just plain stupid.

Oh, I think DOT is looking for you Ken. But if you have H with you, they will let it slide,,,,,,,,,,

Absolutely. But I will say, that's the best towing trailer I've ever had the pleasure to pull, although I think the axles might be on backwards. Noticed the brakes diminishing about 300 miles in on steep grades, but it will snap your neck going backwards on a very steep incline.
Also lost a special 5/16 fuel return hose in Elwood right after I posted. No one open at that hour. Found a long vent hose on my slip tank, 5/16. Thank God, and I did several times.

Took us 24 hours this time.

Also lucky the egr fell off awhile back. It would've been darn near impossible to fix with the tools I had.

... rodents had a very nice winter in the RV. Still cleaning up.
Batteries in the trailer froze and blew up. Linoleum flooring split.... But at least no bear damage!

Raining nonstop. Haven't been able to start on finishing the roof.

Signing off. Need to find a laundromat for every stitch of cloth in the trailer.

Started hanging furring strips along back wall of office mezzanine. I’m using salvage wood paneling I picked up for a case of beer as finish. Will hang it horizontal and paint it a light color. All the other walls will be standard 2x4 framing. Around 220 sq ft when complete

Had a meeting with my Boy Scout troops Charter organization last night. Our charter is the local American Legion. I am trying to renew our relationship. The last scoutmaster drifted away for some reason. I think I was well received. Even though I was asking for money right away. They usually pay our yearly charter to the council and in return the Scouts help with flag ceremony's and what not throughout the year. The past several years none of that was happening. I think they were happy to have us back. They said they will start paying the charter again and I am supposed to come back next month with an amount of how much money we need to get through.

Since we pull kids form several of the area towns, they are going to reach out to the other American legions and VFWs to see if they can put together a donation to get us back on our feet.

Our only fundraiser is havening a concession stand for the ball games at the park and during the county fair. Because of Covid in 2020 there was no fair so, no income. Luckily there was enough in savings to float that year but now with all the price increases and stuff were broke.

I inherited a mess.  The last guy did everything himself and got burned out.  I think I got a good committee put together. I have some parents getting involved with meetings and campouts. Now it's time to turn our attention to the gear. Our equipment is laterally falling apart. Tents are dry rotted. Dutch ovens have mis matched lids. Water containers all have busted or lost lids. I got tires on the little trailer but now I am having a good turnout at campouts I am going to have to start using the big trailer.  I checked it last night and that needs tries too. 4 mis matched tires with date codes from 02-07. We will get there it will just take some time to get it all sorted out.

Very commendable Jon!

Editorial comment: What we see here is a great example of what Jesus has called us to do, love thy neighbor as thyself. This man along with many on this website seem to be constantly dividing his time between his need to support his family and the desire to help and support others. There are so few who make the effort to work on the behalf of others. Although their numbers are few, there effect is manifold. Think about how many kids benefit from spending time with these strong men of God. There is for sure a positive energy that the kids and also the scout leaders benefit from through this effort. I think this is a worthy cause and I think I would like to get behind it.
So here is what I propose. Let's fund these kids. I'll start with a donation of $100. Who will stand with me and get these kids some money to get them the things they need to continue? Jon and his people are working to make good future Americans here and we can show them that men from all over who do not know them will come forward and stand with them to take an active part in building them into good men.

Who else?
Donate using the standard donation tab which pays through PayPal. Use the donation feature so we get the full amount...
You don't have to give a big number, but I'd like to see a bunch of you donate a smaller amount. I want you to be blessed through giving, and I want these kids to know a bunch of men believe in them.

Jon, contact me privately so we can make the arrangements to transfer whatever money we gather.

Ken, that area prone to wildfires or does it get regular rainfall? Looking around, I don't see evidence of fires on the old trees.

Don, yes, quite common a few years ago during the last drought. Right now there's so much rain there's moss on everything I left there last year, including the yellow excavator.
The main reason I'm clearing with the dozer is for a fire break.

OK, copy Ken. I hope you get a robust enough FB in to save all that you are planning to build there. BTW that forestry head I have, that Diamond would do wonders. Can cut a tree down in seconds then grenade everything except for a big trunk in no time. I was thinking you do that and the mulching of the branches would do a reasonable job of holding the soil in place. Then overseed with some natural grass and in the event of a fire you could just bush hog that ricky-tick or back burn it to give you a better FB...

Folks, if you decide to donate to Jon's scout troop you can donate on the tab here in the "Donations" section or you can just send a check directly to Jon. PM me and I'll share his mailing address

They are going to have a tough time making it without some help.

I'll wait a couple of days before sending him a check in case some of you donate on the site here...

Nice work Jon. I thought about taking ours on but the troop is down to 12 scouts and we are loosing almost half when they Eagle out. We helped this AM with an Eagle project (sons friend) besides scout. He's 15!! We are $$$ sound, we collect Christmas tress.
We have no new scouts coming in. Local pack folded and trying to recruit from schools is like taboo here in Kali.

Ken, glad you have rain. So Kal is a mess, they get all their water from up north. We are sound where I am, we control a huge reservoir in another county who gave up their rights to it. saving the wood? Its like gold again,,,,,,,

Jon, I am the only ASM now. Have to get live scanned AND take special Kali only training now. Besides the new Kali rules the girl thing is making it so the boys don't want to go do things as much. Girls are being allowed hurass the boys, but boys get in hot water if they say anything at all, taking the "BOY" scout out of it.

Ken, smart move on not going over that. Think someone had a little incident last year on stuff like that,,,,,,,,,,,,

Ken that was a long trip to D/O the dozer. I have done 2 trips to mine in a day and that pushed it.

Have you tried mothballs under the trailer and steel wool in the little area they get in? About to do that tom mine to get it up there and keep it from getting infested.

JR, mothballs around trailer.

Been busy the last week.
41st annual Firefigthers Rodeo.
After a two year break we pulled it together somehow.
What a blur the last four days are.

Left the banquet early and headed to the lake.
Peaceful brain break for a day.

Jon. Keep at the good work.
Ken. I hate mice too. Lost our camper to it.

It's running on 3 batteries that have 2 solar panels. Problem is winter. I think that's when the batteries froze because they lost charge. I insulated them to hopefully help next time.
Only reason for the fence is bears and they might have worked since I didn't find a destroyed RV.

Charles, I was explaining the bucket trap to my brother but we ran out of time and went with the easy button.

Edit: didn't realize the fence was for mice. Thought you were referring to the one I had. Cool idea

Well over Friday and Saturday, my Dad and I put barnwood up in my mudroom. Took a week off work since the fiance was up camping with a friend from high school and the girl's family. Today I'm going to finish organizing the basement and cleaning and re-seasoning a couple cast iron skillets.

My fiance bought the house before COVID and before we met. I'm going through fixing things that the previous person "fixed" or "upgraded" when they flipped the house.

Jasper has a mini bike and dirt mound. What's the worst that could happen? No stitches this time. He's pretty embarrassed. Won't go out in public.

He said he couldn't find it but even if he had the helmet it's not full face so probably would not have helped much.

Time to go home. Freaking rain.

Tried to go over a mountain yesterday. Made it 12 miles and had fun turning around.

Just looked at these photos again. That tree on the left is a little close, no?

You sound like the neighbors that stopped by.  "You cut tin to save a piece of s*** white pine? Around here we cut trees, not tin!!" . I responded that we don't have trees in the desert and I have an appreciation for them. They laughed. I cried.

There's 2 there, in line. I planned the pad around them, just didn't measure right.  My solar and cameras are on those 2 trees.

Got a package In the mail today.

And put some better tires on the mower. Hopefully it will keep me from sliding downhill into the pond….

They were some eBay chinaman specials. Getting them mounted in the 100 degree heat and humidity was fun…not..

Getting the bead broken on the deep side of the rim was the worst.  Used the hi lift jack under the box blade on the tractor and one would not break down. I went round and round with it and then the cute little spoons I had were fun to work with.  Really needed three so I ended up using a pry bar as the third.

Little soapy water and they aired up nicely. Mowed the backside of the pond berm and no more drifting down hill..  worth the heat stroke and $130

I think I got COVID
For the SECOND time!
Ya, Monday afternoon I was 100%. Came in, did some family time then shortly before I went to bed, like all at once within seconds, I started feeling bad and within an hour went from a happy-go-lucky to a fever of 102 or better.
I went on to an absolutely awful Tuesday night but woke up Wednesday a wee bit better, but the energy was so low, I had trouble walking any distance!
Tuesday morning Kat goes to work like everything is OK. She gets sick at work and so bad, that the boss sends her home. She got Covid tested on her way home and came up positive. Same exact symptoms I had.
Wednesday, I did a good job holding down a chair and watched vids about Ukraine/Russia all the way back to WW1!
I ate nothing from Monday afternoon until yesterday around 1900. Just drank fluids.
So now Thursday. I still feel some effects, but I think I am coming solidly, out of it. No loss of taste, although my wife complains of a metallic taste in her mouth.
I was under the impression my anti-bodies from my severe COVID case in 2020 would have prevented this. I suppose the strain has changed enough to attack a healthy immunized body. If this was COVID, and I am going to test it today, then it is much milder than that killer first one that came out.
