Plus if you need to work on it, it is in the open. Downside too is hanging things off the front, centered.

Still waiting for a quote. Got a buddy who lives in Tehachapi, so I get to visit him too.

Not sure, used to be a plant on the east side.

Buddy lives in Bear Valley overlooking Bakersfield.

Up at the Ridge, little snow

Slept for few on the way up right on the Truckee river.

Just enough snow to make 4x4 a must, gone the next day.

Finished the shelves in the container, need to make room for Dug and clean it up! Wood twisted so bad had to replace after it was up, pain.

Worked on the road a little. Kub did a good job but Dug should do better and there are lots of shrubs to clear.

Didn't work late, cloud cover, north wind and still cold with 3 layers on. (guess i'm a wimp)

Added these HF bumpers to the new Husky chest, still have the back plate to put on.

Had a little vibration on the Dmax. Having it aligned help with the tire scrub but not the vibration.

Friday morning I remembered there was a Discount (Americas) Tire and stopped in for a rotation. No waiting, was done in 30 minutes, sweet. Still had a little vibration and a little clunk at go/stop.

So today I crawled under and the rear universal was toast. 186K, can't really complain about it.

After the second trip to NAPA, I found I have the smaller Universal on this thing. About an hours work with cleanup and a quick paint job on the shaft. Now running smooth as can be!

So supposed to do the deal with the flatbed tomorrow AM. Got a fair price, but still going to run another 2k to get a Dump.

Have been looking at dump trailer and found a Delco dealer local that has both a 14 and 16 ft in stock. Both are 14k, 3 way gates with tarp kit and about $600 diff in price. Just need a spare as none come with them anymore. Both power up/down with scissors, 2ft sides.

Need at least a 14 ft so the Kub will fit (without BH) with the bucket. 16 might be nice for longer items and the Kub would fit with both the BH or scraper with bucket up top.

Either one will haul what I have and load easier being lower. Borrowed a buddy's 12ft a couple times and it sure is handy, so this will get used way more than the flatbed.

JR, my dump trailer is power up only and I have never had a problem lowering it. Might be a tad faster with  power down but I am not in production mode so it doesn't matter. I have spread part loads and then drop the box without a problem. Might save a few bucks with power up only.

Power up only or gravity down, read up on both. This will not be used daily so I really think it matters little, but gravity would be better. These are pretty common maybe I can retro the valve later.

Still in the air about 14 or 16. 16 should give me the option to haul the kub with the BH attached with the bucket on the front rail.

Power up and power down will be harder on the battery than having power up only. I know the truck can be charging the battery but also know it won't keep up with lots of dumping in a day.

I'd say go with the 16K

You'll get much better axles, H-rated tires, and if like mine, oil bath axle bearings with clear covers...nice for checking.

Power down is slow, no different in speed than power up

OK, my bad, you were talking about length

I'd say go 16K but 14 or even 12 ft length

Reason is the weight of a big trailer gets to be so much that it always has you reducing the load while you're flirting with the MGWT of the trailer and often what the truck can pull.

Another thought is: The shorter the trailer the easier it will be to back into tricky spots. Longer trailers react slower to steering inputs, where shorter ones nullify that effect.

And finally, when backing up in dirt, if you're always pushing against extra weight from a longer trailer, maintaining traction will become a real issue.

I'd say with respect to my trailer loaded to the max, getting the thing moving on a hot stick road or going up grade causes me to spin often. And backing up with a heavy load at the farm is almost impossible except on level ground which is not wet and in 4WD.

That's why I went with a shorter 16K trailer, and given the weight of the thing vs the utility, I have probably arrived at the best compromise for my situation.

Going to look at a 14ft deckover dump today. 16 would be nice, but only when I need to haul the Kub with the BH on it, rare.

With a deckover I still get full use for loading and a dump trailer to boot. I like the I beam rails so looking at the PJ D8;

So I ended up getting the PJ 14ft Deckover Dump. Price was right on until they informed me of the steel tarif, so I did my part for the economy today besides buying the trailer.

Had a lot of upgrades including solar and a 12k jack, 2 compartment chest and the sides can come all the way off making it a flatbed.

Only 2 issues are d rings are welded to the side rails and the license plate mount hangs WAY down. Both are easy to address, pickup on Tuesday.

They actually lowered the price pretty well, threw in a spare and I got them down another few hundred.

Power up/down and a ball hitch but probably get a ring for it (less borrowing) and add a gravity down feature.

So the 14ft PJ deckover dump trailer came home today. Got there around 1200, didn't leave until 1400 and all the paperwork was done Friday.

Here is how it looked when I backed up to it.

I start to check it out and find the hitch was just on finger tight, with 4 grade 5 bolts. No battery, no spare.

Addressed the coupler with 2 grade 8 bolts and threw in the battery. Only spare they had was on a white wheel with holes, vs the sorta spoked wheels on it.

Pull it around and they take 5 new black wheels/tires off another trailer(s). Much better looking but the spare is in the truck for now.

Ready to go but I notice a few things to address right away.

Clean up the wiring a little and add a few work lights, always seem to need em. Think I can make it gravity down with a wire to the solenoid. Got a winch remote for the lift, $16 with 2 remotes.

Plate holder is a no go. That would last 10 minutes there on a good day, much less on the dirt roads and getting dumped!

QC could be a bit better. Just 10-15 minutes with a grinder would have done wonders overall. Open caps on back will need drain holes and get covered.

D rings are attached to the corner uprights, they come off, hmm. Going to add 6 D rings on the floor, corners and center.

Being a slick bottom, I am throwing some OSB in there. Will come out easy enough to clean and keep normal things from sliding all over.

Adding metal brackets for wood along the top rails. Just bent over sheet for now so they will save the edges when things get dumped on them (buckets ) and make the sides about 24in. Some shielding the hyd lines too.

18in between the bed and the toolbox. Seeing how much expanded sheet will run for that, great place for odd tools needed. I also will look later at making a drop in extension for the bed there with a headache rack. With that and a small mode to fold the gate down I get a 18ft bed if needed.

Probably add a spare mount and storage area under the bed, lots of room.

Maybe rubber stall matts from Tractor Supply instead of the OSB. They would hold up better and not as slick as the OSB.

Hope your wireless works better than mine did. It would only work about 2 feet away. I ended up ripping it out and buying the expensive one.
Nice wide body. Same style I tried to get (but desert tan) but it sold before I could buy it.

Not going to pull the sides unless needed. Parked at the storage yard today, was a little concerned with a coupler lock and came up with this;

Dump trailers are a target, so I am going to run cable though the wheels.

Winch might be a good idea too. I have a 6000k and an ATV 4500K with syn cable.

I really like that hitch pin where you can change the height of the ball and stop using these cheap adjustable drop hitches.   My $300 b&w hitch is turned into a rusty turd, the holes where the adjustment pins slide through steel are ovaled out a little bit which makes things that much more sloppy.   Fixed hitch is my retirement dream!!

Don’t forget to lock your toe chains up also.  That doesn’t even stop them up here. They bring their own chain and lift it up from the chain and drag it away.  Or the ever so helpful batty op angle grinders make real short work of any lock now

Went up this weekend and just sorta messed around. Did a little on the road, touched bases with the neighbors and organized a little.

Dropped the BH off the Kub, pretty easy really after watching a couple videos. Bought caps for the hyd disconnects.

Then I picked up the scraper to use it the first time. Then a I found out the tractor has NO 3 point brackets on it.

Dealer told me (first stop Sat morning) it should be on there so we set on the hunt to find If I was going to buy or build the parts.

They had a L47 and a L39 in the lot, so I compared parts (mines a L45). New tractor pic next. Looked like the uppers are the same for both, just a "L" bracket. Easy to build but just $29 so I ordered them. Pins are another story. They are tractor specific, tapered and bolt on (looked like the L39s) and were $30, so ordered them.

Also have no way to tow with it, so that I will make. Just a simple bolt pattern and throw a reg receiver on there. (bottom of tractor)

Put the scraper back behind the container and fixed the spy cam (dead batteries).

Went and got this today. 2003 Sportsman 500HO, been parked for years and carb gummed up. Paid well under asking (which is nuts around here) and it included alum ramps.

Rear tires close to being used up, but OK for now. Funny the guy I got it from lived right next to where I lived in the 80s. Has a new battery and needs a good cleaning.

Got it running with fresh (alky free) and charging now. Little hard to shift but all works good. Still going to clean out the carb as it only runs with choke now.

Hopefully get it and Dug up to the land this next week. Kids are off so hopefully 2 trips. Plus with this I can get to all 4 corners now without spending the day.
