I know you're probably thinking "she looks pretty good to me!" If you are, you're missing the point of the build! This is the summer before his senior year! It's our last shot to do something before he blows off to lands far and wide! He's already talking pipelines and underwater welding or even the Navy, heaven forbid.  Peeling off the old trim... by golly I stuck that on there good!   Some grease monkey pornography!  The make a wish kid even jumped in to help turn some screws out! (Y'all take a moment to lift him up. He had his scan this week and they located a spot on his lower spine that wasn't there before. I'm not ready to worry but it's definitely worrisome. Blue is a 1987 Chevy C10. 350 tbi 400 turbo. She belonged to my dad first and then me. When I was 18 I took my eldest boy (the one in the pics) home from the hospital in it and restored it in the barn shortly thereafter. Was around 2000. I tell you what! Tearing her down today was like opening a time capsule for me. I couldn't help but reminisce the entire time. Not sure I'm going to be able to get through this without shedding a few tears along the way. Plans are constantly changing. I know she's going to be a work kit truck so we will keep that in mind! I don't want to pour gobs of cash into it just yet because, well it belongs to a teenager and that is asking for trouble and heartaches. I know it's going to be just perfect when she's done. I'm kicking around the idea of doing a sort of faux petina on her to match the real petina and then preserving it with some satin clear. Without further ado here is day 1. Forgive the lack of technical pictures here. I don't want to spend the whole build behind my camera lens. For the most part the pictures will just tell our story along the way! Trackin'? Scored a new set of screwdrivers for like $5 from Northern Tool. Magnetic tips and all, I own two sets of these and they work well
Oh oh! Those orange ones! Don't leave them out in the sun! The UV bakes all the hardener out of them and the handles turn to rubber. Then they twist inside the handle and they're done for!

So on a whim before my road trip to "the city" I decided to install the steering damper and JR's throttle body spacer.
The steering damper is AWESOME! The spacer will be determined tomorrow on the fill up. I also ground off some lip on the throttle body valve because it's a free country and it looked restrictive!
It seems to have a little more power on the top end. On the low end it just sounds a little different.

In the processes of trying to locate a clogged washing machine drain. All I know is that this drain does not run into the septic tank. It has its own line on a different side of the house, into what I'm assuming is a dry well. So I am wondering, should I cut the line here at the elbow and keep going with the shovel or go rent a mini-ex and replace the whole thing? I have no idea how long or where the line goes from this point. I'm leaning towards the mini.

Its not uncommon for people to discharge grey water away from the septic to keep the volume down. Legality is suspect in certain jurisdictions, but if you know where the line ends, it may just be easier to replace as that looks like a 2 inch pipe?
Also keeps the brown from backing up in to the gray!

So I came up with a list of to-do's! Unfortunately or fortunately however you want to describe it, A new build is about to be amongst us. We will call it "Old Blue to Yeller". My second oldest boy is about to be seventeen this summer and we are going to slick up my old blue 1987 Chevrolet SCLB 2wd. The truck belonged to my dad and I restored it when I was 17 or 18'sh and drove the wheels off of it. Anyways, it's time to send it down the line. So look for the new thread in the next day or so!
Back to Tina and the list!
-Steering damper
-My new throttle body spacer, Thanks to JR and another mod to the throttle body
-drivers door pins/bushings
-I am going to un-install the mirrors and rebuild them/paint them and re-install
-I am going to finish rust inhibiting and undercoating the frame
-passenger's side door handle and both interior door handle trims
-I am going to retrofit some kind of LED light source into the manual map lights because I can't for the life of me find any bulbs with hook and hoop fastener
-HD front brake kit, HD rear brake kit, fluid flush etc...
-I am thinking about plugging in a second battery, since there is a hole for it and all.
-Bigger alternator and something called a "big 3" conversion to beef up the battery and ground cables.
At some point I am going to contact the fund appropriation committee about setting up an acquisition proceeding on the powerhouse/running gear swap! But that will be a while. I'm not really sure why I am dumping so much dough in an 18 year old truck, but the kids are enjoying it!

 Got to tow a little bit today. Good thing my wife was with me because we had to put our feet out the door to get it stopped! But she pulled and handled it well! Was a pretty drastic change going from the duramax!  Definitely going to have to rebuild my old trailer though. Got my gauge bulbs swapped out for LED's. All of the main "ILL" ports take a size 194. Also changed the tag lights out for LED bulbs. Also 194's. Fuel pressure checked at 56psi exactly. Swapped the BW cap for an AC Delco and she runs like a top again! Thanks Ken!

That truck has the "spider" injection, and it will not run well on less than spec fuel pressure... About 56 psi... it won't run at all with less than about 48 psi.
Also, after market caps tend to let spare jump through the plastic, between cylinders, and you won't be able to tell by inspecting it.
I would check fuel pressure, then replace cap, then possible crank position sensor and it's wiring (tends to lose insulation by oil pan)... This is all assuming you tightened plugs and snapped wires all the way on.

Thank you sir! I'll get on all of these tasks in the am! What is the best way to check fuel pressure? Would the cap just go toast all of the sudden? It was literally running perfectly! I drove it about an hour away to pick up some laying nests and about ten mins from the house she just crapped out? What else do I need to change while I have her tore down again?

No, multiple misfires. I checked all of the connections, pulled the cap. Stuff looks good. I'm reading the most common cause for the multiple misfire code is on the fuel side due to faulty O2 sensor readings

1998 Chevy vortec 305 Was driving along thinking about how good my truck was running and all of the sudden it wasn't. Missing consistently and backfiring. Put it on the code reader and all I have is the multiple misfire P0300 or whatever. Posted are the stats. I compared it to one of the others in the driveway and couldn't locate anything remarkable... what say you? So I started with ignition parts because everyone was telling me fuel. I found when I did the tune up for my father in law I had busted the ear hole off the distributor where the screw goes in. The cap was pretty loose. The rotor bug looked decent but you could tell there had been some funky firing times in multiple spots. And the points on the cap were pretty corroded. I just replaced the parts and used some zip ties to cinch her down. I then put a little larger machine screw with some meaner threads down through the busted part. Redneck innovation I know... but hey, hasn't coughed since! On to the next project!  Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I bet it would be well in the mid teens if you drove 65-70.
Here's the thing on that. 65-70 is just barely idling in OD on the flat. As soon as there's a bit of a grade she has to downshift to maintain that speed. You told me these trans only last 150k..... I hate to Lug it like that and make it shift constantly. Bump it up to 75 and she's around 2200 rpm and pulls the hills a lot better. Is my logic flawed here?? That it's easier on the tranny to run faster with less down shifts?
