Wow Charles.
Hope your house is high and dry.

Turner, the bugs and dirt can be color sanded out. It's the bubbles that are 8 layers deep that's the problem. Lol

All good. I shut the office about noon and sent everyone home. Made my way home gingerly in the sissy truck and then picked up the Bus and went for a high water rescue at the girls school. At home by 3 on a conference call with a whiskey.

No shortage of stupid when it rains.

Long as you know where the road is you are good. I had to use RR tracts once, water was around 5ft and I could only see car roofs on the road. Needed a net though as there were so many pheasant on the tracts I could have gone crazy.

Maybe. The vent tubes for the diffs are extended via hose up near the steering column in the front and along the frame rail in the back. I’ll pull the plug to see what color they are.

I will have her pick up a new Evap purge valve down there. Based on the install difficulty, I think my sons should be able to replace it with out any problem.  Thanks everyone for your help, I’ll update after they get it replaced.

Well, she swapped out the purge valve on the intake manifold and came back home. Van is still running real rough and check engine light is blinking. I’m going to get the codes scanned this morning and see if it’s the same codes.

Collected another set of 2004 1 ton axles complete, $300 total for the 60 front and 80 rear dually setup. Need to check but believe the front is same as single wheel with exception of dual wheel adapters. Thinking I should use them and narrow up the 80 for the rear. Swap both into excursion......

I learned a lot about that 80 from my Burb build

Old school but like a battleship for reliability.

Guys up at Cincinnati driveline testify to their strength but hate working on them. That center section is so darned heavy, it requires you to chain down the axle and use a crane to lift it in and out while fussin' with the clearances.

Well, I have like 4 80’s in the shop. One has spindles cut off already, the second is the dodge 70/80 hybrid (80 center and tapers down at brake backing plates to 70 tubes) so those two make great candidates for 80 fronts. Sent Tate an email a few mins ago, see if he can get me the 2005+ inner c’s from Dana and if not found them for sale at what seems a reasonable price. Then the other two 80’s are disc dually axles so narrow them and I have two full sets.

What do you do with your apples?  We have a couple trees in our yard.  We've done apple sauce and apple cider before.  Sometimes we do apple pie filling but I have relatively high pie standards and I've not found a way to can good pie filling.

Bought a random orbital buffer/polisher and am polishing up the wife’s rig to get it ready to sell. Years of washing with hard water has taken its toll on the windows. Look brand new now.

Look at the reflection of the shop light.

Sunroofs are a little more stubborn, so getting some special glass polishing pads that will hopefully knock those water spots off.

Dehydrated a bunch for pie later and made 19 quarts of juice. Mother in law made her juice the old fashion way. I made mine with a new fanged juicer. We kept them separate to see which one is better. I can say that the juicer was 100 times faster. She took 2 days to do what I did in 2 hours. BUT we wont know which one is better until we open a jar tonight.

Why did you burn?

Reduce fire hazard?

yes. yes.

and cause it’s fun. hahah

it was clear cut 3-4 years ago and never replanted it maintained. my parents got it earlier this year and wanted to change that. first things first. get rid of undergrowth and all the old large piles of wood left over after clear cut. so now, hopefully it can clean up earlier and be planted and managed (it’s ~60 acres directly adjoining their current property at their house.. is it’s a ‘buffer’ buy as well)

Yeah Turner,  that’s the east side near the Ship Channel.  Wait until you head west near the Galleria.  Epic.

Hobie, do you have to have a permit to burn like that or some professional oversight?

Charles just for sake of reference. Back in Indiana no permit needed however, we would notify our local (typically volunteer FD, which in my case was the guy who cash rented off of me) FD and this was just out of courtesy so they didn’t take the big fire truck in a meaningless joy ride for no reason. They tended to do that on occasion such as when some knucklehead reported my roof of my first shop being on fire. When in reality it was a combination of green wood a little bar oil and a used leather glove (pour bar oil in old leather glove, toss into wood stove and used oxy / acetylene torch to light it off.....  smokes a bit until it gets ripping

none ‘required’ but a guy i was in scouts with does forestry and habitat management/conservation for a living. so we went the appropriate routes. forestry service was notified with a burn plan. VFD (who my best friend/his family is big in) was told. neighbors. etc.

last year the guy who lives in my parents old house (1/2 mile up the path) lit a trash fire and went fishing. caught 15+ acres of woods on fire. out of control. forestry service came out with the dozer. airplane spotter. the whole shebang. so.. we thought it’s be prudent to let ppl know ahead of time. we even had signs! lol

cool.  I believe here I have to hire a professional crew with a permit and insurance to do a controlled burn.  I've been burning small areas near the house but am afraid to light the whole place up because its right next to 18000 acres of national forest.

How does one go about burning that many acres of land and keeping it under control?  Here in Utah you would have to be crazy to light that kind of fire

Interestingly enough undisturbed fuel like pine needles and leaves burn relatively slowly when humidity is high, wind is low and we are not in drought with super high temps.

You have to have a plan with firebreaks and burn downhill and upwind when possible.

Burning uphill and with the wind will accelerate a burn.

If you pile up fuel you get a bigger burn which causes larger fuel sources (larger limbs and downed trees) to ignite where when just burning undisturbed material won’t usually burn the larger debris.

Thanks.  If you have it and are happy with it I’m sure I will be.  I’ve been on the lookout for a 45 but this was a pretty good deal and I doubt I’ll need to sever 7/8

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I wouldn’t buy anything but hypertherm FYI. I picked mine up used as well awhile back. $700 is going rate for them used around here in Denver so you did alright.

I put off getting one for years as I use a torch a lot. However, as of late I have been grabbing 4” grinder and cutoff wheels more then I care to admit for thinner stuff so when I ran across a decent deal I picked it up. The 45 seem to not be priced as well used either.
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

Asked about that up at my new place. A sore subject now since they had a big fire there a couple years back. You can still see the evidence all over.

Got my 45 for 600 a couple years back, been solid.

Building was delivered yesterday. 2 pallets of metal, 2 buckets of bolts, and 2 cardboard boxes. The hard part is going to be squaring everything up. I will start a new thread when we get going on it. I seriously doubt it will be up before winter.

Well, yesterday i had the pleasure of having dinner and a couple of drinks with Turner and his family on their way through Texas.  A testament to the quality of people assembled together here (well...the jury may be still out on Ken...you know, that H thing)

But in all the talking we didnt get any pictures so, I guess it didnt happen.

Looking for some guidance on my enclosed trailer

I only have power to the two inside lights when it’s hooked up to the truck

I’ve read a little bit about basic system of... add two 6v golf cart batteries and run all the wires through those charges from the truck system when plugged into and than add a 110v battery charger to plug them in for extended stays.

Following this seems mostly simple minus the actual wiring of it

Sorry if I’m captain obvious or missing the point Dave but there is a large 12v feed wire in the round large connector that is specifically for charging batteries in the trailer.

Well. Reread and I missed it.

Yeah installing a 12v system that runs off the truck when plugged in and maybe even a solar panel maintainer and charger on the roof to keep it topped off when sitting for extended periods along with a master disconnect from the load side to keep stray currents from draining it when it’s not being used.   Might even consider an inverted to give you some AC power in the trailer for charging cordless tool batteries.

So yesterday was great! We got to go to the natural science museum of Houston for free, and we had a good time. Then we had the privilege of meeting up with Charles for dinner, thank you for giving us your time sir! Then today was an easy 350 mile drive to a camp ground in middle-ish Texas. May do two more easy days and get home Saturday afternoon, but not currently certain. We’re within a days drive if we choose.
