Can somebody tell me what kind of ammo this is please? The owner does not want to bust open the cans, and has memory problems and does not remember what they are.
-
Those cans lead?
-
My best guess would be old russian, 7.62 X 54
-
It’ll either be 7.62 x 54 as chief has said or could be 7.62 x 39.
If I were to guess.
-
Yes the cans look like those, but there is no other identifying marks to indicate they are russian

Here are examples of British, US Army and German army ammo cans.
You have russian ammo cans
-
I actually own three 1080 round cases of russian ammo that are soldered metal cans
-
Don't ammo cans have the caliber markings? Maybe those are warheads!
-
7.62 x 54 steel core most likely, pretty sure I have some like that which are pre wwii ( berdan primer and as of 12 years ago still fired )
I bought it because it was cheap and steel core at the time
Nate, for what it’s worth none of my 7.62 x 39 is packaged like that and I have a considerable amount of yugo and Russian mil surplus in x 39. Almost all of my x 54 is of a similar packaging to picture although only oldest stuff looks like those pics. I bought most of my mil surplus over 15 years ago too.

I’ve got 7.62 x 39 and 5.56 in soldered cans.
Both have ‘some’ marks to indicate.

5.56 in soldered cans? Or 5.54mm?
You very well may have some NATO, it just that I have never seen it in rusky tin/solder cans
-
Oh it’s Chinese 5.56. Not rusky stuff.
Should have said that. Lol.

The closest i have been shown is that it is Hungarian 7.62x54r heavy corrosive made some time in the 50's
But i have yet to have anybody show me actual proof in one direction or another.

Sorry Nate, it literally would take me an hour to dig it out. It’s buried atm, it’s 54r though and next time you stop by you can help me dig it out!
