Well, she did a good job getting it on the ground

Part of our annual check rides and 6 month "Training Simulator flight will involve an engine failure at V1 or V2, perhaps anoother on climbout somewhere if it's a tricky one like the Bronco departure out of Denver, just to see if you can manage the emergency while adhering to the procedures.

If we don't demonstrate proficiency while doing that, we don't get to fly revenue flights until we are retrained and recertified. So

Not many have had engine failures because the engines are so darned reliable. Mostly just due to running out of gas or ingesting something like a goose, but the goose will likely only cause a high temp or lower power output, not a catastrophic failure like this Captain had.

I'd say she did her job. I'd shake her hand and share a beer with her. Again not many actually get to handle real emergencies outside of actual combat.

I prayed that the one casualty was knocked unconscious immediately and didn't suffer.
