before i can complain about the certain time of the morning that i hate, i have to preface it by explaining what Staff Duty is.

every unit in the US Army conducts what they call CQ (charge of Quarters), which is basically having a security guard 24-7 in the barracks BLDG's.  Higher echelons (above company/battery/troop/etc) conduct what they call staff duty.  when pulling this duty, you are the Commanders Representative as well as the secretary for the entire unit below you.  you take calls from places like the red cross, the military police station (when bobby and higher caliber get arrested for picking on the legs and the poages), local police stations, etc.  you basically become a single point of information for the entire unit below you.

now is saying all of that, i just wanted to say that i really hate the hours of 0230 - 0500 while pulling this duty.  i have come to realize that it is becoming harder and harder to keep the sleep monster away the older i get.

let me play devils advocate or murphy's partner in crime here for a moment.  are you sure that that copper thing-a-ma-jig that you spliced into that fuse is not going to cause any problems and will hold up over time.....?  I ask that because the way that you showed almost seems like running a power strip off of another power strip because you didn't have a long enough piece of proper cable to wire it in correctly......?

that is exactly how she got her name.  as I pulled up to the dealer, the sales guy had it started and ready for me to take it for a test drive, as I pulled out of the parking lot and was merging onto the interstate, ram jam's black betty came on and caused me to turn up the music and let the bose speakers rock it.

i am sure that none of you know that i am a HUGE fan of the rock band "tool"!  my shepard is named in honor of the lead singer, the lead singer served in the US Army and had a stint in the westpoint prep school.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maynard_James_Keenan

i love music, music of all kinds, i played in the jazz band in HS as well as 8 years of classic orchestra (all 4 different stringed instruments).  well after all of these years, i love for music has not gone away.

well i was surfin the interweb while sittin at my desk this morning and i came across a video on youtube by the o'keefe music foundation.  www.okmusicfoundation.org  i first learned about this foundation by seeing this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYKLvYGqaC0

the little girl singing is like 10 years old, and ill be pickeled if she did not do a perfect rendition of the orignal song:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH0qYhAvtXk

now to get to the video that i saw this morning.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctt87B6hU1M

and here is the orignal video by tool:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hglVqACd1C8

I am waiting on my mech to call me back with the final price.  from what he was telling me yesterday, was that it would be like $900 for a new bosch unit from a bosch distributor, about $200 for additional parts and about $1k for the labor.  I am not worried that my mech is trying to take me for a ride, he is a prior marine diesel mech, served in the golf war and has actually taken care of me when I had the vane position sensor replaced.  heck, the guy gave me a ride 50 miles one way to my house and refused to take my money when I offered him something to cover the cost of the fuel.

just an update on the duramax,

well its official, I am going to have to shell out $2k and have the cp3 replaced.  the mechanic checked all the hoses and lines from the tank all the way up, found no leaks on or around the filter housing, checked all injectors balance rates and return rates, and finally found that when he commands 100% from the cp3 it drops and is only putting out 5k psi.

he is gonna do a bottle test tomorrow just to ensure that when I put the race plug in 2 years ago I didn't accidently knock the gasket.  but i have never seen and fuel leaks around the race plug and i do not have any residue build up either.

so well see what happens.

daisy on the other hand has been driven everyday for the last 2 weeks and she has been doing good, even at highway speeds of 70mph.

I am sure that is true jr, but oregon drivers are just straight purly retarded and are just above washington drivers on the retarded scale.  Now i am not saying that there are not good people and good drivers in both of those states, but the vast majority (99%) are what make it so bad.

so I read a bunch of garbage that said you cant do pizza on a smoker!

well I beg to differ and I have the pics to prove it.  I turned my pellet smoker to 450deg and they were in for 10 min and came out perfect.  there was no burn on the crust or on the bottom.

here is a BBQ chicken pizza made from last nights left over BBQ chicken, it also has sautéed onions and mushrooms with some BBQ Sauce

and tracey's pizza was a typical Hawaiian style

and just to note, my pizza stone did not crack.  I have heard too many people say that it will crack in a smoker.  well I say, you either had a defective stone or you did not treat it/season it properly.

so here is the end result of the 2nd attempt at making homemade beans.

here is the recipe

Ingredients:

• Water
• 2 tablespoons kosher salt
• 1 pound small dried beans, such as great northern, navy, or pinto beans, picked over and rinsed
• 8 ounces sliced bacon, cut into 1/2-inch strips
• 1 1/2 cups finely minced yellow onion (about 1 large onion)
• 2 tablespoons finely diced seeded jalapeño (about 1 medium pepper)
• 1/4 cup finely diced green bell pepper
• 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 medium cloves)
• 2 cups chicken stock or low-sodium broth
• 1 1/2 cups ketchup
• 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
• 1/3 cup honey
• 1/4 cup molasses
• 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
• 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
• 1 tablespoon barbecue rub
• 1 tablespoon hot sauce

directions:

1. In a large container, whisk together 2 quarts water and salt until salt has dissolved. Add beans, cover, and let stand overnight at room temperature. Drain and rinse beans. note: because the beans did not soften on the first attempt, we went with 5 cans of great northern beans

2. Place a large dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add bacon and cook until fat has rendered and bacon has crisped, 7-10 minutes. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, leaving as much fat in dutch oven as possible.

3. Add onion to dutch oven and cook, stirring occasionally, until onion softens and begins to brown around the edges, about 7 minutes. Stir in green pepper, jalapeño, and garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in 3 cups of water, chicken stock, reserved bacon, and beans. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 300°F while beans are simmering.

4. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, honey, molasses, mustard, vinegar, barbecue rub, and hot sauce. Cover and transfer to oven. Cook beans for 4 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove cover and cook until beans are tender throughout and sauce has thickened, about 1 hour longer. Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes. Season with salt. Serve immediately; alternatively, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or freeze. Reheat before serving.

these beans were darn good, they will be made again...... ;D
