Shawn, I had a jig I made for a previous project, overcut for plasma gun but don't have any air there. Torch wouldn't be much faster unless we left the cuts rough, which would be fine I guess, but we made good time on welding everything by having perfect fittings....as I didn't have to do any filling, just single pass.

Me likey that work bench JR.

Camping trip was a lot of fun. Met a few new friends. Zane even said he want to go again next year. There were some pretty nice set ups. Traded some of my bacon for some freeze dried goods. I've been wanting to try this for a while but I'm too cheap.
I layed out a tarp. Then a good layer of straw. Tent, cardboard, wool military blankets. (Vietnam Era) some padded reflective material then - 35  sleeping bags. We were pretty toasty but when we packed up you could see exactly where we were laying.

There were a few hammocks. Those guys swear they will never sleep on the ground again. The key is having a good under quilt. They have a rain fly that goes over top also. The whole system weighs 6 lbs. I don't think it's for me. I'd try one if I could borrow one. They are pretty pricey to buy just find out you dont like it.
I am going to invest in a couple good cots.

I guess they are cut so that you lay at an angle and you are flat. The one pictured is 11 ft long as the owner is a good 6ft4 and built like a moose.

Same way, I am a cot guy now. I need to move around a little, even a mummy is to much for me now.

Got the table home, well stored on the trailer. Super solid, took over an hour to load up. Guy had a small skid that would barely lift one side. We used car dolly's and sheets of wood to slide it around, then push it up onto the trailer. I'll get some more pics and figure the real weight out.

Its time to rebuild 5he front end on the wife's tahoe. Ball joints and struts and whatever else I run across. So far I'm up to $570 in parts from car quest. Is there any place online to buy parts? Not rock auto. They are way too cheap.

Two options.
Go to your stash of 10mm sockets.
Go to store and acquire said stash.

 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078719VN1

Much to my surprise this is a real thing...

Jon. Looks like you had a good time with some good peeps.
The hammock setups are great if you can sleep in them.
Caribou hide is where it’s at for ground side insulation.
Impossible for most to get however.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Rock auto has many different brands of parts, including some of the same ones CQ, Napa, and the dealers carry. I would look there first.
The only reasons I don't use them all of the time is because of warranty and convenience.

Well they rescheduled my interview,   In the interview I called the gent interviewing me the wrong name.  Called him Clay, his name is Charlie.     Hope that doesn’t affect the outcome

He also told me that division has other positions open and I should also apply there.

Is that a good sign?

So hard to say Dave. Lots of times hiring managers already have a candidate in mind but have to go through the motions. It may be that he likes you and thinks you’ll be a good fit but he’s already got a horse for that role.

Isn't that a shame that people that do the hiring have the person already picked for the position before the interviews ever happen.  Why not have the interviews with a more open mindset, like say a panel not directly involved in the position being filled, and establish a roster and pick from it and keep the roster open for a given timeframe or until the people on the list are not ready for the positions being offered. The person the manager has in mind may in fact be the best match but... Just saying

Bob, my wife runs into this all the time when hiring. If she has an internal candidate who has history she knows what she gets. Hiring an outside candidate is at best a crap shoot. You always bet on the horse you know especially when many times they are reporting thru you.

Most likely this is why most people find their next job thru networking and that’s been a solid statistic as long as I’ve been in workforce.

So given that the person of interest is already in the system, why not open the position to internal employees only. If the manager does not feel comfortable with the applicants, then open the position to the public.

Crack is old as the house,  the sharpie is so I can label/date my furnace filters.  I change em every two months or so since it runs 24/7 to keep air moving.

If all the candidates do a really good interview and the hiring authority has mixed feelings, interview the top two or three choices and pick the person for the job from that group. Remembering there is a valid reason for probation periods after the position has been filled.

Promotions or position filling are always a hard part of the job. Just because a person is doing a good job in the position they are in does not mean they will be the right person for the vacant position that is being filled. There just might be an outside person that can step in and perform at a much higher level.

Smart managers and leaders don’t make the hiring decisions on their own, even if they have a candidate in mind.  Shawn is right, known quanitities are a comfort zone for sure, but I have my other leaders interview the final 2-3 and we get together and compare notes before making a decision, but Bob, yes sometimes we do just open it to internal if we already know for sure that’s who we are going to hire.  Internal candidates who are upwardly mobile benefit from the interview process itself as well.  It helps them know what scrutiny they’ll face.

Then there is the art of the interview.  Most managers don’t know how to interview, probe to ferret out the BS by diving deep in to details of the statements a candidate makes.  There are some people who are just amazing interviewers but can’t get the job done.  They are hard to pick out, which is another reason never to make a hire by yourself.

Jon, it would be good if you could quit in en masse. Aside from that maybe quit and get the boys into other things such as appleseed (see below), precision rifle shooting, martial arts etc depending on age.

Some of you may remember that I mentioned my wife chipped the tip of my Emerson Karambit using it as a pry too. I was too upset to think about it for months and then I sent it off to Emerson in November. Didn’t hear a word. Arrived in the mail Friday.

Looks amazing.

Fearing the worst I opened the invoice.

$23.50

She really dodged the bullet on that one.

That’s impressive! I like to see high quality and great customer service in one place! Seems you get one or the other, or neither anymore. People just don’t seem to take pride in their work anymore.

That’s a nice looking knife.  The karambit looks pretty impressive as well.

I believe they reground and sharpened as well as new standoffs and screws throughout. I’m going to buy another Emerson today just because of how they handle their business
