Became 3K poorer to turn this huge pile of spilt schiff in to 2 good working (can be run independently if something happens to one or the other) and neat water heaters.

I still have to wrap the hot water pipes in foam and paint the rust spot

^^^^^^^^^^^ So what do we have going on here Nate? Two 50-ish gallon units to increase supply, or a full-time and a backup unit?

Watched these guys fly for a bit.
Never good they are around but glad they are when needed.

And yes I was literally 50 feet from where they were Dunkin’ for H2O.

Had a little fire about 6 miles out of town.

So what do we have going on here Nate? Two 50-ish gallon units to increase supply, or a full-time and a backup unit?

so this house has a geothermal HVAC system in it that is 22 years old (2000), it is a "hybrid" system because of it being cobbled together from different systems.  the company that made the main compressor system went out of business in 02 or 03 making parts almost impossible to find or having to truly modify it even more.

this system was plumbed with a "hot tap" waste heat water heat manifold in-between the compressors and the hot water tanks. when we bought the house, we were told that the system worked only to find out that it did not.  to repair/replace the system, the cost would be above $7K. the original setup basically preheated the water going into the first 40 gal water tank where it would be finished heated and sent to a holding/storage 40 gal water tank.

somewhere along the line, the second homeowners (who we bought it from) were too lazy or stupid to have the hot tap system fixed correctly and had a 3rd 50 gal water tank plumbed into the system and shut the holding tank down.  well 8 years after that 50 gal was installed it rusted out the bottom and was leaking.  so all three water heaters were removed, the hot tap was removed from the hot water equation completely, and 2 new high output 55 gal water heaters were plumbed in to the system.  I have them plumbed to where i can use 1 or the other or both at the same time.

if the geothermal system breaks breaks while we are here, we will be putting a conventional HVAC system in in its place.

in the picture, the 2 red ovals are showing the hot tap lines being run from the compressors to the hot tap, and the yellow box is the hot tap manifold.

Nate, it looks all hodge podge for what it does. Minisplits are for me from now on.

Sam, saw several of those in Tahoe last week. Always issues in that area. They convert fire fighting planes in Santa Rosa, cool to see em being retro'd.

I spent the last 1.5 days bucking and cleaning up a half of a 150yr old cottonwood that got tore up in the last storm that went through the inlaws farm.

That saw has a 25" bar on it, so van give you a size reference.  There were a couple of really nasty splinters with some tension on them. Being that i was working solo with a 18" saw, a 25" saw, a skid loader and a dump trailer, i just took my time and took little chunks at a time to relieve the tension so i didnt kill myself.

Firewood I'm guessing?
Sure would have liked to run that through my sawmill. Interesting to see trees all opened up. They can get really pretty.

Picked this up last night. Keystone Alpine model# AL3220RL22

I had them convert fifth to gooseneck and they didn’t think it needed safety chains, which is incorrect. I ordered them last night and got this pulled 5 miles back to shop w/o incident. Wife unit is cleaning it thoroughly tomorrow. Ordered the normal sewage hoses and water pressure / electrical surge protectors along with a real mattress…..

As many know house is for sale. Slow process atm. If it doesn’t sell in six months I’ll finish off the basement and turn it into a 3 rental unit then just become a landlord.

Montana bound early august for two weeks and hunting remote ground there for my final place to hang a hat.

I really liked my TFT remote trailer tire monitoring system. It was a comfort being able to see temp and pressure on the trailer tires

Onboard air system is another nice to have

We have meant to pick up a countertop ice maker for the trailer. It’s hard to not have ice in a glass.

Good deal!
And that stuff is going to last for a while I hope, and if it doesn't, but the boys learn something and have some good experiences, then it is money well spent

I like my handheld Ryobi unit. Don't have alot of ryobi stuff but the price was right and great for topping off when the big boys are for.

I got an aftermarket tps setup for the flatbed. With hauling heavy loads as little more peace of mind.

Shawn, hearing about how the little critters attack these trailer I was thinking about doing that electric fence around the base. Won't help with bears though.

I had a dometic one for years and loved it. By the time you get everything set up at camp you have ice for a beverage. I ran it for 4 years while camping off and on and then it ran continuously during the pandemic to feed ice to the cooler and finally after more than a year of continuous use it gave up. Not bad for $200

Thanks guys, it is a 4 season unit made to live out of if needed and we may. Time will tell, that’s in Gods hands honestly. If we cash out of the house here or some other property I have for sale we’ll most likely be buying the final home site and developing it over the next few years. The camper may get placed there for a time too.

As some of you know or do not my wife has had a rough year starting with the Marshall fire evacuation of her hospital and then ongoing struggles beyond that and ptsd from the fire. I’m not going to say anything further other than it has caused us to re-evaluate what we want and what’s important. As far as selling the house and looking at ground that was a 5-10 year plan already in the cards. So we are just bumping the schedule if that’s God’s will? Lots of praying going on and just one day at a time. Each day is getting better I think atm.

Bob, yes both compressors can fill a tire. I have a plug kit in the truck so other than something major I should be ok. Dave, it has hook ups in the bedroom closet but I’m not sure we’re going to do that. We do like the storage and a laundry mat isn’t a big deal.

Man that’s nice Shawn. Makes me miss mine.  It’s all about the fridge and the outdoor kitchen !

Charlie don’t surf and mama don’t camp.

That’s how I got mine.

Matt I have that same hitch and love it. Keep the pins lubed with Lithium grease.

I think Charles means TST.

I have the TST system too and what bugs me is the screen is not oriented in the way the truck rolls down the road…

If I had to do it again, I’d probably get this system from TireMinder. It is oriented portrait with the truck at top and trailer at bottom - in line with how you drive. Just makes more sense.

Nice score Shawn.

I really liked my TFT remote trailer tire monitoring system. It was a comfort being able to see temp and pressure on the trailer tires

Onboard air system is another nice to have

Jon got ‘em going early!

Thanks Charles, may need to look into the TFT system. I have two seperate small compressors. One is viair that runs off auto battery and second I a small Senco unit that I can run off truck inverter.

I have TST and I love it. You have to program the monitor to get everything in place.

That looks like a great unit. I didn't know Kubota made those.

Ken, I’d never heard of that but steamboat is 3.5 hours from me. We’ve been there once and no desire to go back honestly.
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

Jon, have the same gen I got for $800, then found it has a bad head gasket. Another one of those things I need to get to.

Runs great and pretty quiet for an 3000rpm genset.

Does yours have auto start?

I don't think so. Haven't got it home yet. The company that had it builds and refurbishes wrecked service trucks. It was on a truck that came in. I looked at it before I bought it. Let it run a good 10-15 minutes. I was surprised how quiet it was.
