Buying a new grain trailer. I'm stuck between Wilson and Timpte. Both very similar and only $600 difference in price. Both are built locally. Within an hour or so from me. These are pics taken from the internet to show just how similar they are.

We always used to run Wilson at the one outfit I drove for back in the day.
I think there was more price difference 20+ years ago though.

Craziest drive I ever made was to the Wilson plant south of Sioux City wherever the heck it is.
Had to bobtail down so thought awesome. Easy ride.
Freezing rain started at Fargo. Had to call it a Sioux City.
About a mile to slow down from 30 to exit to the truck stop.

Either way likely much the same end.

Wouldn't you get scuff with the staggered wheelbase trailer or are the front set sliders? Other trailer looks like the landing gear are mounted better. Small pics though. Weights the same?

Wilson is built in Sioux City about 45 miles north of me. Timpte is built a little over an hour away southwest of me.  There is 500 lbs difference in weight and $600 difference in price. You get some scuffing on the rear axle but its a lift axle. I hit a switch in the cab and it comes up. So unless I think there's a DOT around I hit the switch when I turn tight corners. My side dump is set up the same way. We did a job in the city hauling dirt. DOT on us like crazy I pretty much ruined a brand new pair of tires in 6 weeks.  With that spread I am allowed to carry 44,000 lbs on the back. I can go 95,000 gross weight in Nebraska because I have a drop axle on the truck.

What is the logic for the third axle being further back?

To contain the lift system?

Finally installed my air hose reel.  I had to get a 6' lead in hose, and it easily holds roughly 150' of 3/8" hose.

Any Dana front axle is pricey out here. I have seen HP for 2500 asking. Rears are no issues, the 14bff is the standard and cheap!

Don, leave the brakes on that axle is your best bet. Already an odd rear and adding the brakes was an adventure itself. Brakes for the 14bt are easy.

Thank you everyone who pays taxes. This is but a very small amount (8 tons) of high end 4x4 galvanized tubing left over from a local solar project. ..3 semi trailers left over.
I got it for scrap price.

The shipping label was still attached to one of the bundles and it said 12 gauge. I measured .140ish. Maybe they were 12g before coating.?
I've welded plenty of gal.... could be what's wrong with me. Lol

Went to the company website and they claim 50-55ksi rating on the tubing. They don't show pricing but guessing that little stack cost us over 20k.

I heard back form the shop working on my freightliner. Verified that it had been overhauled at some point and everything looks good. Just replace the head gasket and were good. But 3 of the injectors are starting to look crappy. So I told them to go ahead and replace them while were at it.

I don't know when he will get it done. He runs a trucking company first. Mechanic work second. I guess it depends on how many of his own trucks break down in the meantime.

Pretty much got all our plans done for summer vacation. We will be hitting craters of the moon national park in Idaho and Devils tower. Others must have had the same idea because the campgrounds only had very few spots available. There are a couple nights where I have no idea where we will end up. One night in central south central Idaho on the way out, and one night on the way home in the middle of Montana. It shouldn't do too hard to find a place. IF I cant find any place interesting there are a couple good truck stops in Idaho we can stay at. In Montana I can boondock at Cabela's in Billings.
