Not that anyone cares, but my favorite less-than-serious war movie would probably be Kelly's Heroes.

Another good one is the Great Escape.

Hard to overcome recency bias... As Lone Survivor and American Sniper were excellent.

Some of my less recent favorites are We Were Soldiers, Blackhawk Down, and Saving Private Ryan... I guess Crimson Tide too.

If I had to pick one favorite... Lone Survivor.

One where the movie sucked, but the book was incredible... Unbroken.

Cool thread! Interested to hear others, there's prob lots of awesome movies I haven't seen.

I liked "act of valor" not that the acting was that great but some of the gun action scenes were pretty intense for a non mil guy like myself

There was a movie I saw when I was a young lad. Made me want to become an Apache pilot, but that didn't happen. But I liked the movie, because I liked the Apache, coincidentally I still do like that bird.

Firebirds with Tommy Lee Jones and Nicolas Cage.

Bridge over River Kwai is a good one too.

My favorite has to be Full Metal Jacket.  R. Lee Ermy is tha man!

Patton Ranks up there as a close second.

Boys from Company C was also cool when they sat on the hill and called in the strike to watch a million dollars worth of fireworks.
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

As a kid I loved the Chuck Norris war movies as well as the Rambo movies. Now I like a more historical correct movie.  Why is American Sniper not on the list?

Can't see a list from my phone, but my favorite recent war movie is Fury. Kelly's Heroes is definitely at the top of my list, Odd Ball is awesome. Another good one is The Tank. That Soviet TC was crazy!

Go figure. lol

I would say Lone survivor and American Sniper are my most favorite recent ones, because I read their books long before the movies, and I must say, Hollywood didn't butcher them up too much.
Fury is pretty darn good as well.

A T-55 that was captured by the Israelis during the Yom Kippur War, and modified through the addition of a 105mm main gun in place of the original 100mm. It was re-designated by the Israelis as a Ti-67. There were also several T-55s used in the film.

It was a T-55 that was captured by the Israelis and redesignated the Ti-67 and used for the movie. It was modified by them and in place of the 100mm main gun a 105 mm gun was emplaced.

I had to cheat and use wikipedia-fu to get most details. But I did recognize T-55 in the trailer I watched.
