Thank you to all who served allowing me and my family to live in this great country with the freedoms we still enjoy. As bad as things seem I wouldn't leave the country I live in for anything and a huge part of that is the selfless thousands who put that country above their own interests. I am indebted to you all.

Sam,

Not sure if the CF celebrate Veterans day the same time we do, but thanks to you folks up north as well. I served with many units of the Canadian Military in the years I spend in Afghanistan. They were a killer lot for sure. Bad guys feared you guys and 'mericans about the same. Others, the T-ban often just brushed off.

And had it not been for the CF showing up in Kandahar, why I'd never have met that Timmy Horton brew and everything bagel!

Thanks to you folks!

F6, what was the sentiment about the Aussies?

Yes we do. Remembrance Day we celebrate. Different name, same reason.

I'm out doing field trials on a new weapon system at the moment.
We had dang near a full service on the range yesterday.
Short of having music and a piper, we covered it well.

Ah, my dear friend Timmy. I'm missing him, but only for a few more days.

They were good to go

I've found anybody affiliated with the British can stand their ground

Aussies, Brits, Kiwis, all good soldiers

The French were not reliable, neither were the Germans. THe Dutch just wouldn't fight, but they flew Chinooks which helped fly stuff around at least.

The Aussies were there when I was there in 06, up in Tarin Kwot (TK) along with our 82nd Airborne. Were some good fights back then. One night a big fight near the FOB front gate ended when the Air Farce lobbed a 2,000 lb bomb in there. Needed a new drainage pond anyway. The 82nd moved out and the Dutch moved in, and the fighting stopped. It stopped because they didn't go off post much and refused to go after the enemy.

That big fight we got into there that produced all those banged up helicopters went on for about 4 hours. The Dutch had an infantry brigade about 2-3 miles away and never came out to help!

South Africans are tough hombres as well, but highly restricted in their activities. We had Spanish and Italian forces there as well, up in Heart, but there wasn't much going on up there. They did have great food and a cantina which sold whiskey...and Baileys...not that I have any personal knowledge of that...
