It's red, so who cares, it matches...
And lowered means less chance of catching it in forehead. Freaked my buddy out when I got caught by one, it smoked me, didn't split my skin, I caught it and looked at him like let's go. He was pretty concerned, so it hit me hard apparently, but I have a thick skull...
So the moral is be careful at the 3+ foot range, things go bad fast.

Up north update, we had frost this morning. A little early by my standards even.
Seen 28* on drive out to one of out sites this morning, winter is a coming.
Also hit 250k on the way back, I'll have to figure out a picture host I guess...cause it did happen. Lol

Am I the only one who cusses the durned hilift every time I use it?

Stlaser, or any other who has probably had extensive use with one, want to through up a post on care and maintenance, tips and tricks for the blasted tool?

Using spare quart of motor oil for lubricant and a hammer, oh & stay away from that darned handle too.......

The handle makes a good breaker bar and is of quality steel so in a pinch I have used it to weld to broken stuff like links etc.

Yep, that about covers it I believe!

This makes me chuckle... because I've used the handle for all kinds of things. Hammer, check, oil, nope! Will add. I've seen comments about replacing the pins and springs and such, just something that doesn't happen very often? Anything on that?

Because my hilift is good for making sure the rocks don't float away and that's about it.

Springs and pins I don't recall ever doing. I know they sell a rebuild kit but everytime it gave me issue the motor oil or hammer got me out of a jam. I do believe I ordered a replacement bolt or pin once but the original had come loose and fell out on a trail somewhere while the jack was stored in its mount.

The rubber handle holder from daystar is a must have so the handle doesn't drive you nuts rattling. It comes in red as well Charles.

Its still a 6 inch lift......

But I really bought it for the tractor and for post pulling.....and it was red...did I mention that?

Copy, didn't realize it was still that tall.

As far as mentioning it was red. First it was your post. Second you bought it & it comes in red. So for us that know you it was implied that the one you purchased was in fact red........

I use my Hi-Lift for more odds and ends than true jacking then I ever thought I would. They make some cool attachments for it to use in all types of situations. Also saw a company that makes a "foot" with two guide wires to the top to eliminate/minimize the sway( and hopefully) risk of the jack exploding out from underneath your vehicle. I'll try to find a link - seemed like a pretty good idea for soft ground (and especially with a lifted vehicle). I just made a "foot base" out of an old piece of 1" hardwood I had. Rather than buying the one they sell.

Good luck on the new place Dave...soinds great!

snapped my drag link from the pitman arm to the steering knuckle while snow wheeling back in 02 and replaced it with the jack body and my steering stabilizer u/bolts to clamp it in place. Came down from the cascades in 4' drifts and drove it 100+ miles that way back home. used it to break the bead off 37" tires, putting the foot on the bead of the tire and the lift under the heaviest part of the jeep, (worked great, had to clear stump debris to get it to hold air). Have used it as a come along as well with heavy chain to get the front end of a buddy's Toyota to touch the ground when he slid back down a very steep embankment. I only used it to jack up the wagoneer once, and it fell over a couple times, slipped the pin and dropped the riser onto my foot once, and pinched my hands between the body and the handle multiple times. Love em and hate em.

Had to put down my oldest rooster today. It was a hard thing to do but he challenged me this morning. I Had to smack him with a feed scoop and he came right back. I broke him of that once before but he got back to his old crap. I can't have that with young boys around. I don't know if this eclipse had anything to do with his behavior or what but he took me by surprise.

I've always had better luck with trans fluid on a high lift.....and it doubles as an excellent wet wood fire starter. No need to carry a hammer....the handle works fine for that.

So there seems to be a hurricane headed this way.  I guess this makes #5 or 6 that I've been through.  Yawn.  However, watching humanity (loosely defined) is better than at a wal mart.  No water on the shelves, lines at the gas stations.  People panicking and wanting me to close the office tomorrow. The stores are cleaned out...as in "honey! honey!  I found some hearing aid batteries!!!, but dear we don't have hearing aids....Yeah but....but...we might need them....."

Weather reporters are foaming at the mouth to get their 15 minutes of fame and cries of "hunker down" can be heard....

So, what is a tin foil hat wearing red neck to do??  96 gallons of diesel on board the dually? check.  75 gallons of diesel on board the Bus?  check.  21 gallons of diesel in the wifes SUV and 21 of gas in the van....check.  MREs. check, Rice Beans canned goods, check......what am I forgetting???/  Oh yeah.  Stopped by the liquor store and have 3.5l of Old No 7.  All good.

Will likely take off in the morning and head to the hide where I have more supplies and generator/window AC etc.  More to get away from mass stupidity than avoid rain and wind....

adios from Texas!

Seeing all this on the news about the empty shelves reminded me I am low on everything. I usually have a good months worth of canned goods put up plus what is in the freezers.

Best of luck Tex.

I just done something extremely dumb. I'm talking dagumit dumb. This is the amount of 87 octane gasoline I just put in my LB7. Tow truck should be here in 10 minutes.

Dang man. I almost did the reverse, but the bigger nozzle saved my bacon. a little bit would be ok right? but almost 10gal, probably not going to be able to dilute that much... Time for one of these in the gas tank? https://www.fumotooildrainvalve.com/with-straight-nipple-joint-f108n-for-drain-plug-size-16mm-1-5.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIv5jlnvfy1QIVBlt-Ch3TqQfcEAYYASABEgI_x_D_BwE

Thanks guys. All good here. Wife drove the Dually and I drove the bus. Where we are they expect 4-6 inches of rain in the next 4 days. Yawn. I could drive to almost any one of you without stopping for fuel. Sam, I could get to the border but probably have to fuel up to get to your latitude.

Have 55 gallons of gas for the gen set. A window unit that will cool most of the house and lots of food and whiskey. It's like a mini vacation. The houston house is well insured and life goes on.

It's actually nice here now. About 85 degrees and we are sitting by the pond feeding the fish.

A sump in a diesel is a great way to recover from mixing gas in it. Unscrew the drain and refill.

Praying for the safety of you and your family Charles.......I've heard that expensive Bourbon doesn't like a lot of water mixed with it; a little bit is beneficial, but even 4" is too much!  Best drink whatever you have on hand to prevent spoilage!

Due to my bonehead move I never did make it to look at the 2015 ecoboost. I did stop by a dealer closer to home and drove a silver, one owner, 2013 F-150 with the 5.0 motor, FX4 off road whatnots and lariat interior package. I can tell the truck has been used but doesn't appear to be abused. The underside looks like my trucks used to when I lived down 2.5 miles of gravel roads. Even though I'm not overly thrilled about that, the truck is priced accordingly.

Also, the total cost not paying attention was right at $200. That was an expensive ADD moment but it could've been much worse.

Longball that's a fairly cheap lesson. You're right it could have been worse.   I certainly have had had a few

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Just worked on a 14 eco and the guy really doesn't like it. He was thinking it should get better than 17 average.

I'd buy a 16 or newer, new version motor. I'm getting around 20 with a lot of city driving

Just for info.

I recently purchased some pants of the tactical nature from a supposed US based company, Vet owned.
Dissatisfied to learn my pants are not made here in the good ol USA but being shipped on a slow boat from China ZerofoxUsa.com is not what they say

Update from flood town.

Next couple of days will be the worst.  Still just light steady rain where I am.

For perspective TRN- did Houston give an evacuation order/advisory?  Other than your God given common sense, what prompted you to head for the hills?  I've recently heard that Houston has a history of "flooding" according to the new pundits.
