so I decided to start with a UDS (ugly drum smoker) build first. that way I can get my design completed and my parts list compiled for the other drum.
here is the parts list for the UDS:
1 x 3x4"/1" ball valve
3 x 3x4"/1" x (close) straight pieces of black pipe
1 x 3x4"/1" x 2/3" straight piece of black pipe (for the ball valve)
2 x handles
- assorted bolts/washers/lock washers/nuts for handles
1 x thermometer (I picked mine up from academy sports, you can get them at homedepot, lowes, any BBQ store online)
2 x 3/8" x 3/8" brass male-male compression fittings (for the temp probe ports)
2 x solid brass caps to fit the above brass fittings (that way you can close off the ports when not in use)
4 x 3/3 1/2" bolts
8 x flat washers for the bolts above
8 x nuts for the bolts above
2 x 22" replacement grates for weber kettles
1 x 17" charcoal grate for weber kettle
1 x 2" x 6" conduit pipe (for the smoke stack)
1 x 2" conduit cap for the pipe above
1 x 55" x 9" piece of expanded steel (for the coal basket)
6-8 ea x u bolts (or however you are going to mount the grates)
1 x can cooking spray (used for 1st seasoning smoke)
1 x bag of charcoal
several small chunks of wood
tools required:
drill
pipe wrench
brill bits (so you can make the smaller holes)
metal hole saw bits (so you can make the 4 holes on the bottom of the barrel for the air inlets and the ball valve)
propane weed burner torch (easiest way to burn out the barrel, especially if you live in the city limits)
20lb propane canister
assorted wrenches
*welder * optional but not needed
this build is on the easier side, it is just time consuming because of all the measuring and drilling. here are pics of the process, I will show pics of the first seasoning smoke tomorrow. I will also add step by step inst if need be?
