We have been on the land we have now for right at 20 years. We have 7 acres at the current home. Lots of memories and improvements. With lots of recent nearby growth we decided to start looking for some land a little more remote than we are with some elbow room. It has been a tough hunt spanning about 7 or 8 years. We found a couple that we thought were it and the Lord closed those doors. The one we finally closed on yesterday has been out there for about 5 months.
The gentleman has owned it since 1987 and worked on it for about 15 years before that.
It is 84.5 acres. It is fenced on the perimeter. It has a pole barn about 24x40 enclosed on 3 sides. It has a well and water distribution at 4 locations for livestock. It has a spring feed pond. We have ordered a metal building, 30x50 with a 12x50 overhang on the back.
It is a place that we will build on and then sell our current home. We will get the required interior fencing up and move the animals first. Then probably live in the storage building until the house is finished.
This is standing on the site of the future house. Real close to the middle.

Thanks everyone. Spending several hours on the Bush hog is the first step. That allows final siteing of the house, storage building and barn. Then the work starts. This place has many big live oaks on it. Several are very large. As in It would take at least four people to reach around.
-
Awesome!
And more pics!

just dont build your house close to them...
-
Really happy for you, what an adventure. Watch the brush hogging, some things get chewed up or run over that shouldn't.

I've heard it is particularly hard on Stihl chainsaws, cameras, and errr the boss is coming...
And to Bob's point there may be not so buried treasures as well.
-
I haven't taken anything over there yet. I have already found some of the last guys stuff.
-
Forgive my ignorance, where are you and this property located roughly?
-
South of Savannah ga
-
Spent 5-6 hours on the bush hog Saturday with no carnage. I did do some discovery learning. We also like the land even more with the area mowed. Still several more hours to go on the first cutting and some debris to haul but off to a good start.

Yo I didn’t run over a chainsaw? Camera? Small elf’s?

Spent another5 hours on bush hog. This time I found some not so buried treasure. Spent about45 minutes cutting old baleing twine and netting out of the Bush hog. That's it so far.

Failed to get any pictures of that bird nest.

Congrats on the land purchase. Sounds nice.
Bird nest or not, we deserve pics!

With cost escalated some for the storage building, we decided to live in a camper instead of squeezing into the storage building. We put a deposit on one yesterday. Should take delivery Monday. We are tearing out old fencing and continuing to mow. I will catch up on pics.

Camper living is actually fun. Forces you to downsize and choose what you really need to have sitting around since there is limited storage space. Here's a suggestion. Adding a small storage building, like a 10X12 or something like that will make for a big closet that you can toss a washer and dryer into as well as another freezer.

Fencing has been ordered and started arriving. Next weekend, corner posts for the horse pasture.

Looks good young man. looks so large right now, starts looking not so big once the sides start going up.

Dig out a pit with the tractor, nice fire, fill in the pit burying the nails and junk.
-
Last owner is slowly getting them. He has had medical issues so we are letting him go slow. I think eventually that is what will happen. He has gotten about half so far.
The slab is 30 x50 with a 10 ft approach on it.

Congrats Matt. Then you can start planning the expansion or next building. There is never enough.

Just got our house plans. Not sure when we will start that.

did you hand drive the fence posts? I know THAT pain all too well.
-
Yes, hand driving them. That was about 45. This Saturday I got in another 60. Probably another couple hundred to go.
-
I’m guessing you aren’t hitting rock with every post? Last time I drive about 10 posts just for a small pen and every one hit rock and had to be realigned. That’s the pain of living on a ridge here in the Tuck.

Not many rocks thankfully.

That looks handy, I wish I had one of those all of those nights out in the field installing triple standard concertina fencing from dusk til dawn. I sure have driven a lot of post by hand over the years, before, during and after the army. Probably spent enough on mole skin and gloves to have bought one by now.

Lots of cutting to get it out of the fence.
I'm guessing this sucked for a bit too.
coming along nicely though.

Yeah it did. It had a few years of camouflage growth. I am glad I found some more the easy way.

Went under contract last night to sell the current place. In a few weeks we will be camper living. The storage building has been hit with the spray foam and receptacles, switches and lights are going in now. It will then be ready to receive the freezers and refrigerators. Should finish up the pasture fence for the cows tomorrow and move them this weekend. On the horse fence, all of the post are up but I have left the electric rope down so It would be easier to mow. I will get it up and hang 2 gates and be ready for them. The wife will be packing up and we are going to start moving the shed stuff probably next weekend. I will have to take some time off to get us over there smoothly. Fortunately it is only about 25 minutes from the current house.
I know, I have been bad about getting pics up. I will remedy that soon.
-
Got this finished up over the weekend. It also has the address number on each side. That is about 40 ft off the dirt road. We had a local guy do it.

Uncle Hugh always had a donkey with the sheep. found several dead coyotes over the years with caved in skulls
-
We are 75 percent moved out and just got the call that the buyer backed out of the contract. We were scheduled to close this Friday. Going to finish moving and cleaning and put it back on the market. At least we should get the earnest money.
-
That sucks. To bad interest rates are going up.
-
Talk about a roller coaster, the buyer decided to not terminate. We are back on for Friday.

No strange smell. She can taste. The medicine leaves an bad taste in her mouth. Day 4 of 5 on the meds.

Well a new page in your lives. You will have lots of room inside and out to make this place your home. I like the stair message.

We have been in since July 4th weekend. It is great. We have had a visitor, the boss and his wife. It was a very nice visit. Even got in some group therapy.
I am trying to get a video uploaded that the builder did of the finished house.
We had a thank you celebration with the builders and crews. That was nice. Many of them were grateful to get the invitation as they said that rarely happens, as in almost never.
We are having a celebration with friends and family this weekend.
Everything is so nice and we realize we are truly blessed to have this land and house.
