Table looks great.

I’m on day two of a 21 day retreat.
My liver’s gonna hate me but alas, time to relax.

I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

thank you all.

she asked for it to match her book cases that i made for her a few years back, and she is pondering if she wants another one like in another part of the house.

it is a very simple design....i used 2ea 2" x 12" x 8' from the lumber yard, sanded them smooth, stained and polyed them. the hardware is simple 1/2" black pipe and floor flanges that were cleaned and painted then bolted through the wood.  that way if it ever warps, i can adjust the feet to level it off.

i am not sure if i ever talked about the picture above it?.... she wanted something that fit that space, so she ordered a huge sticky mural painting and hung it on the wall centered. i took some oak base board, sanded it out, stained and polyed it, then trimmed it to fit like a picture frame.  the tops and bottom are finish nailed to the studs and the sides are stuck on with adhesive (i know that i will have a serious drywall repair when those come off) and nailed to the upper and lower pieces.

Well got to the hide and the fridge was not working. Tossed everything and began trouble shooting.  Found it was likely the thermostat/controller.  Nearest place I could find with one in stock was 1.5 hours away.  Made that round trip and installed it.  It’s working and I’m monitoring it with the bbq multi channel probe thermometer.

In less than 30 minutes the fridge is 56 and the freezer is 13 degrees.

Will monitor and make sure its not a fluke.   Certainly be nice to have an $87 repair instead of a $2000 new fridge

Six years old...hmmm, tough one
Well you want to know what is driving this. Something medically wrong?? Medications? Psychological reason? Something going on somewhere, such as someone abusing the kid somewhere? Do you know what goes on 24/7 with him?
^^^ There are just initial thoughts, because, sure we need to drive a correction and punishment sometimes works, but we really, as fathers, want to know what's really going on. You know, today he's keying cars (yours), and in 14 years he becomes an axe murderer! Joking of course, but the point is, if there is something going on, then it may be easily corrected at this tender age, but not so much when he's sixteen. So spend the time and effort to get ahead of this thing now.

One of my pre-rangers was acting up, but a bit older and that is key in the punishment I used on him. I made him look up several references in the bible explaining why what he did was wrong. He did not find it, but I drove him to the verse that says to respect your parents or you will have a short life!

Next I made him write an essay on each point. He would turn in the essay, and I would strike through the misspellings and grammatical errors. He would have to then rewrite it, and this went on for a week to 10 days. He had to do that before he could play with friends, or games, or anything else. I found it to be effective, robbing him of his personal time, while driving him to biblical scripture. He saw that I was standing firm in my judgment and decision and not letting up until he had worked himself out of it.

I learned over the years that men will make mistakes. You can punish, but you need to give them a chance to earn back their respect.

Had a pilot once in the Arm-ee make a downwind approach in a Chinook at Max gross weight. Didn't have the power to arrest the descent and pulled too much, over torqueing the aircraft. I interviewed him afterward. It cost me a couple of million dollar transmissions to repair it. He said he landed into the wind, to the north.

I reviewed the forecast for that hour on that day, and we had a 10 knot, gusting to 15 knot, wind from 330 degrees, so, ya, landing to the north is OK. Then the flight engineer who trusted me came to me in private and said the pilot in command had landed to the south, with that tailwind and that he had to jettison the sling load to prevent the Chinook from crashing!

That PIC had lied, a cardinal sin with me. So I called him in and presented him with the evidence. He folded and confessed. He had tried to lie to cover his error in judgment. So I removed his pilot in command status, reducing him to co-pilot. I then let him simmer for a day.

Two days later I called him into the office and gave him an assignment. "You are to teach these aircraft systems classes on transmissions, Rotors, limitations, aerodynamics, weather forecasting focusing on wind and gust spread, and on and on." It amounted to two classes a week for two months.

He could have thrown in the towel, but he decided to embrace the punishment and take the assignment. As his classes advanced, myself and everyone else became impressed at how vicariously he attacked each subject. You see, he was given a path to recovery, he was earning back his respect. Covering his mistake class by class, but more in all the hours of prep and study it took to teach each class. He was growing like a phoenix out of his destruction.

At the end of all those classes, I gave him a really tough check ride in the aircraft which he passed, and made him a pilot in command once again.

You can raise the hand and spank your child or you can teach them about the error of their ways and allow them to earn back their rightful place...

I and the wife chose a punishment last eve that felt was fitting his crime.

Choose to have him poop scoop the yard alone for a month ( parent supervisor for quality control).
Loss of all electronics for the same month. No tv, video games, I pad so forth. None!!!
If there is any fight on a day about doing these things I’ll add a day to the end of the month.

We created a calendar so he can track his progress, i highlighted the days to be completed and he can mark an X on the days he completes his tasks.

I’ll wait till the month is over before I fix the door as I’m pretty positive I can polish it out of the Travers.

The boy said his brother was inside, I assume a misguided neighbor boy had something to do with it but I can’t be sure.
To his credit he did fess up to it when mom asked him, he also fessed up to the jetta with out many questions.   I don’t think he had I’ll intent on the travers.  He said he wanted people to knows it’s our car.
The jetta I’m not sure as he did a good number on it, 360 degrees every panel he had reach to.  Drawing is something he likes to do on paper and such….. but he is smart enough to have told mom that he would never draw on dads truck!!

We will see how it goes

Make him use the key he scratched the car with.

TRN, yep it is getting nuts out here. Yesterday I went to sportsman warehouse with my 14 year old, he wanted another knife (avid collector) HE was not allowed to handle a knife unless I handed it to him. What sense does that make?

Like there is a law that motel bed sheets must be fitted, not folded. Sometimes I am surprised I can buy 2 ply toilet paper.

Perfect day to burn piles of mesquite trimmings and creosote bushes.
Wife is out of town and the breeze was blowing away from me and the neighbors. Took 9 hours to burn all the piles in a pit.

Well decided to get after the welding table build today.

3x3 10ga square tubing and 1750 lb each casters. Two swivel locking and two fixed.

Still need to source the top which will be 3x5 one inch plate. And the. Decide what to do on the bottom. Likely expanded metal with some 2x2 angle supports across the long span

Looks like this thread will top the one mil mark early in '22...

and I wonder where it ends at? Or if it ever ends at all?

What happens when the chatty peeps who wasted all this time are gone, dead and buried, say for 10 years??

Then what?

Does it go on to become the single most visited thread in all the interweb?

And it did that without a single girly pic!

So, then Desert Ken, becomes the author of the largest and longest lasting waste of time known to man!

Dubious honor, but what the heck...Good job Ken!

Lol and rainbow unicorn at that, Ken….

I cut a few small trees, cleaned a shotgun from when I shot sporting clays, ordered some new Briley chokes, did bible study with the family, took my youngest for a driving lesson, made cheese dip.

No unicorns here.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Downed 6 trees and hauled them off to the front pasture to burn later.  Fixed 4 cellular shades whos pull cords had broken inside.  But new batteries in the game cameras and moved the deer feeder and filled it up.

Is it lazy to move it to line of sight from the downstairs window of the casita?

Its getting harder to stay up to 1-3am to shoot pigs in the cold.  I’ll just slide the window up and shoot suppressed with the PVS14 and get me an IR spot light.  Been looking at the Steiner DBAL so I don’t need to sight through the COMPM4, just put the beam on the pig and pull the trigger

I finalized my orange tractor sale, and should have it delivered by noon on Wednesday

Compressor on one of the heat pumps at the house decided to throw a rod or something this morning. Nearly twenty year old unit, so getting it completely replaced. While the local building mechanical crew was here, got a price on a new heat pump for the little house. I’ve been making do withe the mini split I put in three years ago but it can still get mighty chilly when it can’t find any heat to pump in the dead of winter.

So long story short, I’m a bunch of money lighter than I was this morning when I woke up…or at least I will be in the next few days.

Too bad!

I personally hate it when an unexpected expense pops up for a necessary home repair. For me it usually comes just as I am about to buy something I want or immediately following something else that broke that cost me a bundle!

Me/this december: Saw that tires were on a black Friday sale price so I pulled the trigger on four new 37" AT's for the Silverado. A couple days later my daughter comes to me in need of an emergency loan. Note: Never loan money to family, just give it to them. SO I stroke the check...hadn't planned on that one, and Christmas is looming and coming fast. Next, like five days the dryer craps out. SO bad I couldn't repair it. The drum actually cut a big 30" hole into the front cabinet sheet metal. Tried welding it but no joy, so there goes $700+. Now I am in deep kimche, but Christmas hasn't slowed down, it's still coming...
