Bikes Motorcycles, S x S's, Tractors, and Mowers / UTV buying advice
« on: April 30, 2017, 11:01:19 AM »
So, I'm about to put the fifth wheel up for sale and I'm contemplating what to do next.

I'm liking the idea of a UTV for some adventure riding with the family. But realized I don't know much about the crowded space of UTVs.

Don maybe a dedicated UTV forum?

So I'm looking for advice on new vs used and which ones would fit my criteria.

Not looking for a racer. I'm looking for utility. 4 seater with a bed that can be used around the range and hunting and adventure trail riding.

Reliability and ease of maintenance and parts is important too.

What say ye?

So a guy at work complimented a tie I was wearing one day.  So I took it off and gave it to him thinking nothing of it.

He wrote me a nice note and left a bag on my desk that had two of these beers in it. He is a beer aficionado and these are his favorite beers.

Now me, I'm just a redneck from texas who drinks Budweiser not bud light. So I was prepared to be unimpressed by the somewhat Euro trash look. I have to say a very rich creamy caramel flavor. And to boot it has 11.3% ABV. It's a Belgium quad and has a thick creamy pour.

Worth a try if you can locate one.

What are you building? / R22 Refrigerant
« on: April 19, 2017, 07:15:30 PM »
I received this in the email box today from my serving company.  Anyone heard of this or doubt it?

Regarding Air Conditioning systems that currently operate with R22 refrigerant:

It is important for you to be aware that R22 refrigerant is being rationed to ALL air conditioning contractors across the country, the current limit is two 30 pound cylinders per purchase per company.  By 2020, R22 refrigerant will not be manufactured or imported.

How does this impact you, as a consumer?
If your system is not cooling and is low on refrigerant, R22 refrigerant may not be available to recharge to get you cool again.  A system holds about 10-12 pounds depending on size and line sets. The cost of refrigerant (if it is available) this summer is going to be expensive, upwards of $100 per pound and rising.

Just a reminder, air conditioning systems are closed, they are not supposed to lose refrigerant.  If an older R22 system is low, chances are there is a leak. Refilling an older system with R22 will not stop the leak, nor will it stop the loss of the expensive refrigerant you just paid for.

What exactly is the refrigerant phase out?
All the way back in 1993, there were rumblings in the HVAC industry that there was going to be a phase out of HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons), which are ozone-depleting substances (ODS).  The EPA established a phase-out frame work and schedule: R-22 refrigerant (Freon) was among those on the list.  They began by phasing out the worst of the HCFCs and by 2010, it was R22’s turn to start getting phased out.

January 1, 2010 marked the date that manufacturers could no longer make condensers that used the old R22 refrigerant.  By January 1, 2020, there will be no more R22 refrigerant.  January 1, 2020 marks the date that R22 will no longer be manufactured or imported.  Since we are already experiencing a rationing of the refrigerant right now in 2017, we do not expect there to be any R22 available anywhere by the 2020 cut off.

We feel it is important to make sure our customers with R22 systems, have this information.

Our intention is to give you the advantage of being able to budget and plan ahead, so that you do not suffer in our Hot Humid Houston climate this summer. With this information ahead of time, you have the advantage of weighing out what system best suits your needs and budget. Thereby avoiding the panic that may push you to rush into a decision because your system is out and there is no refrigerant left to get you up and running.

If you are interested in putting together a plan with budget numbers you can reach out to us at:

There are two turncoats in the GOP who received significant dollars from the NEA and are on the only 2 senators with ratings from the NEA over 50%.  That is Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

While most of us cannot vote in their next re-election campaign, time and time again it has proven extremely effective to use contributions to opponents to unseat elected representatives.  Dashle comes to mind as well as a few others.

I respectfully suggest that you write these turncoats and put them on notice that although outside their state you will use your power of political contributions to ensure they are not reelected.

Firearms / 2017 will be time to stock up
« on: December 20, 2016, 11:14:06 AM »
For those wanting to increase their stock of weapons, gear, and ammo, 2017-2018 should be the time to stock up.

Gun manufacturer stocks, dropped after the election because the biggest promoter of weapons and biggest driver of record weapon  sales ,the democrat party was defeated.

There  is a glut of weapons and magazines on the market and already prices of weapns and parts are falling.

if you've kicked yourself for waiting or not having enough supply.  Be ready.  It will be time to stock up.

So I'm patching my old Poulan together with chicken wire and spit and its time to step up.  The clutch spring broke and its hard to start with the chain in full engagement.  I've ordered a new sprocket, new clutch, clutch spring and a few screws which are missing.  I already put a new carb on it so I'm 50% of its cost new, into repairs.

I'm a fan of Stihl and that's the direction I'm headed.  I've narrowed it down to two saws.

The MS391, which is their top of the line Farm/Ranch saw rated at 4.4bhp 13lbs and a 20 inch bar max
or the MS 362C-M which is a professional saw rated at 4.69bhp 12lbs and 25 inch bar max

The cost difference is $150

Share Your Recipe / Pork Rub
« on: September 28, 2016, 08:10:46 PM »
Someone somewhere when I posted a picture of a pork butt being smoked asked for the recipie so here it goes.  I watched Triple D on food network and Guy Fieri visited a BBQ joint that used these ingredients.  He didn't go into measurements so I eyeballed it and came up with this.

2 cups brown sugar
1 cup paprika
1/4 cup garlic powder
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup cayenne pepper
1/4 cup chili powder
1/4 cup cumin
1/4 cup onion powder
1/4 cup salt ( I don't actually use this as I salt 5-10 hours before applying the rub as salt is the only spice that penetrates)
TBS allspice
TBS poultry seasoning
TBS cinnamon
TBS nutmeg

I apply liberally and then spritz with apple juice several times throughout the cooking process.  Smoke until 165 internal temp and then crutch with foil and then between 195-205 its done when the bone pulls out smoothly and cleanly from the butt.

From the Daily Wire
5 Statistics You Need To Know About Cops Killing Blacks | Daily Wire

The Alton Sterling and Philando Castile shootings have caused an uproar among leftists because they fuel their narrative that racist white police officers are hunting down innocent black men. But the statistics – brought to light by the superb work of Heather Mac Donald – tell a different story.

Here are five key statistics you need to know about cops killing blacks.

1. Cops killed nearly twice as many whites as blacks in 2015. According to data compiled by The Washington Post, 50 percent of the victims of fatal police shootings were white, while 26 percent were black. The majority of these victims had a gun or "were armed or otherwise threatening the officer with potentially lethal force," according to Mac Donald in a speech at Hillsdale College.

Some may argue that these statistics are evidence of racist treatment toward blacks, since whites consist of 62 percent of the population and blacks make up 13 percent of the population. But as Mac Donald writes in The Wall Street Journal, 2009 statistics from the Bureau of Justice Statistics reveal that blacks were charged with 62 percent of robberies, 57 percent of murders and 45 percent of assaults in the 75 biggest counties in the country, despite only comprising roughly 15 percent of the population in these counties.

"Such a concentration of criminal violence in minority communities means that officers will be disproportionately confronting armed and often resisting suspects in those communities, raising officers’ own risk of using lethal force," writes MacDonald.

MacDonald also pointed out in her Hillsdale speech that blacks "commit 75 percent of all shootings, 70 percent of all robberies, and 66 percent of all violent crime" in New York City, even though they consist of 23 percent of the city's population.

"The black violent crime rate would actually predict that more than 26 percent of police victims would be black," MacDonald said. "Officer use of force will occur where the police interact most often with violent criminals, armed suspects, and those resisting arrest, and that is in black neighborhoods."

2. More whites and Hispanics die from police homicides than blacks. According to Mac Donald, 12 percent of white and Hispanic homicide deaths were due to police officers, while only four percent of black homicide deaths were the result of police officers.

"If we’re going to have a 'Lives Matter' anti-police movement, it would be more appropriately named "White and Hispanic Lives Matter,'" said Mac Donald in her Hillsdale speech.

3. The Post's data does show that unarmed black men are more likely to die by the gun of a cop than an unarmed white man...but this does not tell the whole story. In August 2015, the ratio was seven-to-one of unarmed black men dying from police gunshots compared to unarmed white men; the ratio was six-to-one by the end of 2015. But Mac Donald points out in The Marshall Project that looking at the details of the actual incidents that occurred paints a different picture:

The “unarmed” label is literally accurate, but it frequently fails to convey highly-charged policing situations. In a number of cases, if the victim ended up being unarmed, it was certainly not for lack of trying. At least five black victims had reportedly tried to grab the officer’s gun, or had been beating the cop with his own equipment. Some were shot from an accidental discharge triggered by their own assault on the officer. And two individuals included in the Post’s “unarmed black victims” category were struck by stray bullets aimed at someone else in justified cop shootings. If the victims were not the intended targets, then racism could have played no role in their deaths.

In one of those unintended cases, an undercover cop from the New York Police Department was conducting a gun sting in Mount Vernon, just north of New York City. One of the gun traffickers jumped into the cop’s car, stuck a pistol to his head, grabbed $2,400 and fled. The officer gave chase and opened fire after the thief again pointed his gun at him. Two of the officer’s bullets accidentally hit a 61-year-old bystander, killing him. That older man happened to be black, but his race had nothing to do with his tragic death. In the other collateral damage case, Virginia Beach, Virginia, officers approached a car parked at a convenience store that had a homicide suspect in the passenger seat. The suspect opened fire, sending a bullet through an officer’s shirt. The cops returned fire, killing their assailant as well as a woman in the driver’s seat. That woman entered the Post’s database without qualification as an “unarmed black victim” of police fire.

Mac Donald examines a number of other instances, including unarmed black men in San Diego, CA and Prince George's County, MD attempting to reach for a gun in a police officer's holster. In the San Diego case, the unarmed black man actually "jumped the officer" and assaulted him, and the cop shot the man since he was "fearing for his life." MacDonald also notes that there was an instance in 2015 where "three officers were killed with their own guns, which the suspects had wrestled from them."

4. Black and Hispanic police officers are more likely to fire a gun at blacks than white officers. This is according to a Department of Justice report in 2015 about the Philadelphia Police Department, and is further confirmed that by a study conducted University of Pennsylvania criminologist Greg Ridgeway in 2015 that determined black cops were 3.3 times more likely to fire a gun than other cops at a crime scene.

5. Blacks are more likely to kill cops than be killed by cops. This is according to FBI data, which also found that 40 percent of cop killers are black. According to Mac Donald, the police officer is 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black than a cop killing an unarmed black person

Despite the facts, the anti-police rhetoric of Black Lives Matter and their leftist sympathizers have resulted in what Mac Donald calls the "Ferguson Effect," as murders have spiked by 17 percent among the 50 biggest cities in the U.S. as a result of cops being more reluctant to police neighborhoods out of fear of being labeled as racists. Additionally, there have been over twice as many cops victimized by fatal shootings in the first three months of 2016.

Anti-police rhetoric has deadly consequences.

Canning & Food Storage / Pickled whole peppers
« on: August 21, 2016, 08:43:08 PM »
About the only thing still producing in this god awful heat are my peppers.

Harvested a ton of jalapeño and habaneros

Wash jars , bake in oven at 250 for 15 minutes to sterilize. Place lids in shallow pan of water and simmer. Add water to canning pot and get it boiling. Make sure you have canning rack and do not set jars directly on bottoms of pan.

Wash peppers, stab with small paring knife 3-4 times to allow brine to penetrate.

Add to bottom of jar:  1 tsp pickling salt (table salt has iodine and will darken contents), 1 tsp coriander seed, 1 tsp black peppercorns, 2 bay leaves , 2 whole cloves of garlic.

In a separate pan bring vinegar mixture to near boil - do not boil. 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. (I use a blend of cider and white vinegar)

Pack peppers in jars, I used quart wide mouth. Most recipes are for pints so the water bath time is shorter for pints.

Pour hot liquid over peppers leaving 1/2 inch headspace. I filled each and pressed peppers down and added more to get as much in as possible since peppers will soak brine.

Wipe jar rims, add lid from simmering water and place ring on just finger snug.

Using a lifter place jars in water bath with 2 inches covering lids.  When water returns to boil start your timer. 25 minutes. Remove and place on towel in counter.  Lids should pop when cooling. Press on them after a few hours to make sure they sealed. They should be concave and no give to them when pressed. Write the date on the lid and store.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / A Duck
« on: August 12, 2016, 09:34:38 AM »
A DUCK IN THE WHITE HOUSE. . .

If you walk like a duck and  quack like a duck;  have feathers like a  duck; eat like a duck and lay eggs  like a duck; there is a very high probability that you're a duck! Just consider the volume of evidence and then consider what has been done secretly behind closed doors.

Mike Gallagher, the 8th most recognized talk radio personality, in the U.S.A., he is heard by over
2.25 million listeners weekly. He compiled and wrote the following essay entitled,

 "Obama: It was You."

President Obama,

Here are the real reasons why you have done nothing to show solidarity against the Muslim terrorists and Islamic invasion and systematic destruction of France that fought Muslim invasions successfully for centuries and that we have loved for its culture for centuries:

* It was you who spoke these words at an Islamic dinner - "I am one of you."

* It was you who on ABC News referenced - "My Muslim faith."

* It was you who gave $100 million in U.S. taxpayer funds to re-build foreign
mosques.

* It was you who wrote that in the event of a conflict- "I will stand with the Muslims."

* It was you who assured the Egyptian Foreign Minister that - "I am a Muslim."

* It was you who bowed in submission before the Saudi King.

* It was you who sat for 20 years in a Liberation Theology Church condemning Christianity and professing Marxism.

* It was you who exempted Muslims from penalties under Obamacare that the rest of us have to pay.

* It was you who purposefully omitted - "endowed by our Creator " - from your recitation of The Declaration Of Independence.

* It was you who mocked the Bible and Jesus Christ's Sermon On The Mount while repeatedly referring to the 'HOLY' Qur'an.

* It was you who traveled the Islamic world denigrating the United States Of America.

* It was you who instantly threw the support of your administration behind the building of the Ground Zero Victory mosque overlooking the hallowed crater of the World Trade Center.

* It was you who refused to attend the National Prayer Breakfast, but hastened to host an Islamic prayer breakfast at the White House.

* It was you who ordered Georgetown University and Notre Dame to shroud all vestiges of Jesus Christ BEFORE you would agree to go there to speak, but in contrast, you have NEVER requested the mosques you have visited to adjust their decor.

* It was you who appointed anti-Christian fanatics to your Czar Corps.

* It was you who appointed rabid Islamists to Homeland Security.

* It was you who said that NASA's "foremost mission" was an outreach to Muslim communities.

* It was you who as an Illinois Senator was the ONLY individual who would speak in
favor of infanticide.

* It was you who were the first President not to give a Christmas Greeting from the White House, and went so far as to hang photos of Chairman Mao on the White House tree.

* It was you who curtailed the military tribunals of all Islamic terrorists.

* It was you who refused to condemn the Ft. Hood killer as an Islamic terrorist.

* It was you who consistently and systematically refuses to use the factually accurate terms, "Islamic terrorist" in describing anyone, regardless of the atrocities, the death tolls, and the Islamic statements made by the terrorists about their goals and intentions.

* It is you who has refused to speak-out concerning the horrific executions of women
throughout the Muslim culture, but yet, have submitted Arizona to the UN for investigation of hypothetical human-rights abuses.

* It was you who when queried in India refused to acknowledge the true extent of radical global Jihadists, and instead profusely praised Islam in a country that is 82% Hindu and the victim of numerous Islamic terrorists assaults.

* It was you who funneled $900 Million in U.S. taxpayer dollars to Hamas that is officially committed to the destruction of Israel.

* It was you who ordered the United States Postal Service to honor the MUSLIM holiday with a new commemorative stamp.

* It was you who directed our UK Embassy to conduct outreach to help "empower" the
British Muslim community.

* It was you who funded mandatory Arabic language and culture studies in Grammar schools across our country.

* It is you who follows the Muslim custom of not wearing any form of jewelry during
Ramadan.

* It is you who departs for Hawaii over the Christmas season so as to avoid past criticism for NOT participating in seasonal White House religious events.

* It was you who was uncharacteristically quick to join the chorus of the Muslim Brotherhood to depose Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, formerly America's strongest ally in North Africa; but you remain muted in your non-response to the Brotherhood led slaughter of Egyptian Christians.

* It was you who appointed your chief adviser, Valerie Jarrett, an Iranian, who is a member of the Muslim Sisterhood, an off-shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood.

* It was you who said this country is not a Christian nation.

PLEASE!
Distribute this far and wide Yep, he's a Duck, alright, with two Muslim fathers, with childhood education in Muslim schools in a Muslim country with a declared religion of Islam, with a Muslim religious ring that you have worn consistently since teenage years, etc. Is there a reason, do you think, that the past of his wife and him are all officially "sealed" and secret to prevent any
informational access or public disclosure of the facts?

Hand Tools, Power Tools, Welders, etc / Powder coating
« on: August 03, 2016, 12:08:57 AM »
So I decided to take the plunge and try my hand at powder coating. I started with this basic kit from Eastwood for $199

It came with gun, silicone plugs, high temp masking tape extra containers a beginners guide and 4 pounds of powder (mix and match color choices)

I powder coated my dually lugs this past weekend in a buddies set up so I got a bit of a crash course. I'm looking forward to getting some more experience under my belt.

Ultimately the limiting factor is the size of the oven. I'll be looking for a cheap CL used wall oven to start.

Hope to share successes and failures that might help others who want to try this out.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Happy Fathers Day, Real Men
« on: June 19, 2016, 08:21:53 AM »
As a Christian, the man is the head of the household and responsible for everything that happens in it.  Leading the family in the way of the Lord, loving his wife, setting the example of discipline for the kids and self discipline for the entire family. He is also responsible for the  security and well being (physical and financial) of the family.

These are no small tasks or responsibilities.  The men of this site have demonstrated those values and I am grateful for Don for making this site available and to the Real Men here for the camaraderie that helps each of us continue in the correct path as leaders of our families.

The state of decline in our country today can be traced back to men who are not keeping these responsibilities sacred.  Whether that be the politicians or those that are serial procreators that are not involved in their children's lives..

To all you Real Men, I raise my 20 oz Yeti coffee mug this morning and both salute you and wish you a happy Father's Day.

Firearms / Time to stock up?
« on: June 15, 2016, 09:26:54 AM »
All this talk about "assault" weapons bans and Clinton destroying the second amendment makes me wonder if it's time to stock up again like back in 1994.

So I ordered 3 Colt LE 6920s this morning.

Prob going to get a case of 30 RD mags and some additional uppers and spare parts.

Cooking equipment / First Smoker
« on: June 05, 2016, 11:21:25 PM »
So after listening to a bunch of folks I decided instead of building an offset smoker I would start with a pellet smoker.

Did some research and for the price point, the REC TEC seems well suited for what I want.

http://www.rectecgrills.com/rec-tec-wood-pellet-grill-rt-680/

Ordered some different wood pellets and now am on a mission for a good source for meat and recipies.  Joined the BBQ Brethren and think I want to smoke ribs first.

Any ideas on rubs or technique is apprecaited.  Ive read about the 3-2-1 method but since this is my first, I thought Id ask for some advice.

Thanks RM

I'm sill confounded as to why Varget is so hard to find in stock.

But....I found an 8 pounder and snatched it up.
