Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Memorial Day
« on: May 30, 2016, 08:48:55 AM »
I give thanks to my Lord that he has, to this point preserved our nation through the sacrifice of many fine and brave men and women.

May we, and this shallow generation at hand, remember that freedom isn't Facebook. And freedom isn't free.

I am afraid that we will be faced with a wolf at the door in the future. May we also be prepared to gird ourselves as so many before us.

I pray the Lord to raise up another generation of soldiers to stand ready and continue to preserve our nation.

Amen.

From the files of probably too good to be true, I ran across this ad today and emailed about it.  Got the response below back

https://www.carsforsale.com/vehicle/details/18683842

Hi, This is Kelly Hill ,

Thanks for replying to my ad. I'm selling it because I'm serving in Offutt AFB, Nebraska but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf AFB  in Anchorage Alaska for a 3 years period, so I don't need it anymore at this time. Let me give you a few details about it: 1977 Jeep CJ7 Renegade Sport with only 69k miles on it, no accident history, clear title, no dents or dings and no scratches. Always adult driven and garaged, never abused or raced. If you are interested, it's still available for sale and the price, as stated in the ad, is $2,500.00, so if you have the money ready to buy it email me back.

I look forward to hearing from you

So today, put my LB7 on the road with all new water pump, belts, pulleys, etc.

Noticed that it will break loose turning right with only the right tire spinning.  Turning left, both tires will light, as it will for the most part in a straight line.

What's happending with the G80?  Is it toast?

If its toast is the solution the Grizzly Locker?

I've never set up a rear end before but I'm pretty handy and not afraid to spend the money.

Whats the story here?

Here are some conversations that the airline passengers don't hear.
The following are accounts of actual exchanges between airline pilots
and control towers around the world.

=============================================

Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!"

Delta 351: "Give us another hint! We have digital watches!"

=============================================

"TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 Degrees."

"Centre, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up here?"

"Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?"

==============================================

From an unknown aircraft waiting in a very long takeoff queue: "I'm f...ing bored!"

Ground Traffic Control: "Last aircraft transmitting, identify yourself immediately!"

Unknown aircraft: "I said I was f... ing bored, not f... ing stupid!"

==============================================

O'Hare Approach Control to a 747: "United 329 heavy, your traffic is a Fokker,
one o'clock, three miles, Eastbound."

United 239: "Approach, I've always wanted to say this... I've got the little
fokker in sight."

==============================================

A student became lost during a solo cross-country flight. While attempting to
locate the aircraft on radar, ATC asked, "What was your last known position?"

Student: "When I was number one for takeoff."

==============================================

A DC-10 had come in a little hot and thus had an exceedingly long roll out after
touching down. San Jose Tower Noted: "American 751, make a hard right turn at the
end of the runway, if you are able. If you are not able, take the Guadalupe exit
off Highway 101, make a right at the lights and return to the airport."

===============================================

Taxiing down the tarmac, a DC-10 abruptly stopped, turned around and returned to
the gate. After an hour-long wait, it finally took off. A concerned passenger asked
the flight attendant, "What,exactly, was the problem?" "The pilot was bothered by
 a noise he heard in the engine," explained the flight attendant. "It took
 us a while to find a new pilot."

===============================================

A Pan Am 727 flight waiting for start clearance in Munich overheard the following:

Lufthansa (in German): "Ground, what is our start clearance time?"

Ground (in English): "If you want an answer you must speak in English."

Lufthansa (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany. Why
must I speak English?"

Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): "Because you
lost the bloody war."

===============================================

One day the pilot of a Cherokee 180 was told by the tower to hold short of the
active runway while a DC-8 landed. The DC-8 landed, rolled out, turned around,
and taxied back past the Cherokee.

Some quick-witted comedian in the DC-8 crew got on the radio and said, "What a cute
little plane. Did you make it all by yourself?"

The Cherokee pilot, not about to let the insult go by, came back with a real zinger:
"I made it out of DC-8 parts. Another landing like yours and I'll have enough parts
for another one."

===============================================

The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot.
They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there
without any assistance from
them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following
exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747,
call sign Speedbird 206.

Speedbird 206: " Frankfurt , Speedbird 206 clear of active runway."

Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."

The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.

Ground: "Speedbird, do you  not know where you are going?"

Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."

Ground (with quite arrogant impatience):

"Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"

Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, -- and I didn't land."

=================================================

While taxiing at London's Gatwick Airport, the crew of a US Air flight departing for
Ft. Lauderdale made a wrong turn and came nose to nose with a United 727. An irate
female ground controller lashed out at the US Air crew, screaming: "US Air 2771,
where the hell are you going?! ! I told you to turn right onto Charlie taxiway!
You turned right on Delta! Stop right there. I know it's difficult for you to tell
the difference between C and D, but get it right!"

Continuing her rage to the embarrassed crew, she was now shouting hysterically: "God!
Now you've screwed everything up! It'll take forever to sort this out! You stay right
there and don't move till I tell you to! You can expect progressive taxi instructions
in about half an hour and I want you to
go exactly where I tell you, when I tell you, and how I tell you! You got that,
US Air 2771?"

"Yes, ma'am," the humbled crew responded.

Naturally the ground control communications frequency fell terribly silent after the
verbal bashing of US Air 2771. Nobody wanted to chance engaging the irate ground
 controller in her current state of mind. Tension in every cockpit out around
Gatwick was definitely running high.

Just then an unknown pilot broke the silence and keyed his microphone asking:
"Wasn't I married to you once?"

I'd roll water cannons on the scene and start clearing them out.  If they want to protest they can assemble across the street peacefully.  Step off the curb and start problems, and you get the water cannon and paintball CS gas.

Enough is enough. Stop tolerating these thugs and allowing them to act out.  It only emboldens others when there are no consequences for their actions.

Either that, or at some point, it becomes a mob rule and the majority will strike back with overwhelming force while the neutered police force stands idly by.

« on: February 10, 2016, 09:54:39 PM »
Many of you may know that I make my living in that sexy, macho, testosterone fueled world of the Fortune 100 insurance industry.  (sarcasm)

If you think that all the assaults on your rights are frontal then I want you to read this.

Several states are now moving to require gun owners to buy liability insurance on their weapons and at least one is considering a tax on firearms that would fund victims of gun violence programs.

Make no mistake about it, adding a financial hurdle in front of a person's right to exercise their 2A right is no different than a poll tax to discourage voting.  This is yet another tactic of the left to encumber the rights of the law abiding to reduce legal gun ownership while not doing a damn thing to enforce the multitude of laws already on the books and broken by felons with guns routinely.  I encourage you to make your voice heard with your state legislators if you live in one of these communist states.

Appetite for gun insurance grows, with proposals in 4 states

Hawaii, New Hampshire, New York, and Los Angeles are all considering mandatory gun liability insurance for gun owners. Should the four states manage to implement the legislation, violators could face fines of up to $10,000.

The gun liability insurance measures are similar to a provision in a bill proposed last year in Congress by Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-New York. Maloney’s “Firearm Risk Protection Act” would require individuals to secure proof of liability insurance before they can purchase a firearm; failure to produce proof would result in a fine.

Hawaii’s proposal is very similar to Maloney’s bill, in that gun owners are required to have insurance for their firearms. The bill, proposed by State Sen. Josh Green, also requires gun owners to renew their registration every five years. The state currently requires guns to be registered, but the registration process is only done once and never again.

Rep. Katherine Rogers, D-Merrimack proposed an identical bill for the state of New Hampshire, requiring the seller, purchaser, and owner of a gun to be covered by a liability policy. The bill also has the same proposed fine of $10,000 for those gun owners caught without insurance.

In New York, the proposed legislation would require gun owners to maintain $250,000 in liability insurance coverage.

Los Angeles County officials are deliberating on whether they should implement more stringent gun control regulations. On top of an insurance requirement, the county is considering imposing local tax on firearms. Purportedly, the proceeds from the insurance would offset costs associated with victims of gun violence.

You should read this article very carefully: all those devices that you think are making your life easier may be opening you up to spying.

The Guardian

The US intelligence chief has acknowledged for the first time that agencies might use a new generation of smart household devices to increase their surveillance capabilities.

As increasing numbers of devices connect to the internet and to one another, the so-called internet of things promises consumers increased convenience – the remotely operated thermostat from Google-owned Nest is a leading example. But as home computing migrates away from the laptop, the tablet and the smartphone, experts warn that the security features on the coming wave of automobiles, dishwashers and alarm systems lag far behind.
The government just admitted it will use smart home devices for spying
Trevor Timm

In an appearance at a Washington thinktank last month, the director of the National Security Agency, Adm Michael Rogers, said that it was time to consider making the home devices “more defensible”, but did not address the opportunities that increased numbers and even categories of connected devices provide to his surveillance agency.

However, James Clapper, the US director of national intelligence, was more direct in testimony submitted to the Senate on Tuesday as part of an assessment of threats facing the United States.

“In the future, intelligence services might use the [internet of things] for identification, surveillance, monitoring, location tracking, and targeting for recruitment, or to gain access to networks or user credentials,” Clapper said.

Clapper did not specifically name any intelligence agency as involved in household-device surveillance. But security experts examining the internet of things take as a given that the US and other surveillance services will intercept the signals the newly networked devices emit, much as they do with those from cellphones. Amateurs are already interested in easily compromised hardware; computer programmer John Matherly’s search engine Shodan indexes thousands of completely unsecured web-connected devices.

Online threats again topped the intelligence chief’s list of “worldwide threats” the US faces, with the mutating threat of low-intensity terrorism quickly following. While Clapper has for years used the equivocal term “evolving” when asked about the scope of the threat, he said Tuesday that Sunni violent extremism “has more groups, members, and safe havens than at any other point in history”.

The Islamic State topped the threat index, but Clapper also warned that the US-backed Saudi war in Yemen was redounding to the benefit of al-Qaida’s local affiliate.
Advertisement

Domestically, “homegrown extremists” are the greatest terrorist threat, rather than Islamic State or al-Qaida attacks planned from overseas. Clapper cited the San Bernardino and Chattanooga shootings as examples of lethal operations emanating from self-starting extremists “without direct guidance from [Isis] leadership”.

US intelligence officials did not foresee Isis suffering significant setbacks in 2016 despite a war in Syria and Iraq that the Pentagon has pledged to escalate. The chief of defense intelligence, Marine Lt Gen Vincent Stewart, said the jihadist army would “probably retain Sunni Arab urban centers” in 2016, even as military leaders pledged to wrest the key cities of Raqqa and Mosul from it.

Contradicting the US defense secretary, Ashton Carter, Stewart said he was “less optimistic in the near term about Mosul”, saying the US and Iraqi government would “certainly not” retake it in 2016.

The negative outlook comes as Carter traveled on Tuesday to meet with his fellow defense chiefs in Brussels for a discussion on increasing their contributions against Isis.

On the Iran nuclear deal, Clapper said intelligence agencies were in a “distrust and verify mode”, but added: “We have no evidence thus far that they’re moving toward violation.”
Advertisement

Clapper’s admission about the surveillance potential for networked home devices is rare for a US official. But in an overlooked 2012 speech, the then CIA director David Petraeus called the surveillance implications of the internet of things “transformational … particularly to their effect on clandestine tradecraft”.

During testimony to both the Senate armed services committee and the intelligence panel, Clapper cited Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and the Islamic State as bolstering their online espionage, disinformation, theft, propaganda and data-destruction capabilities. He warned that the US’s ability to correctly attribute the culprits of those actions would probably diminish with “improving offensive tradecraft, the use of proxies, and the creation of cover organizations”.

Clapper suggested that US adversaries had overtaken its online capabilities: “Russia and China continue to have the most sophisticated cyber programs.”

The White House’s new cybersecurity initiative, unveiled on Tuesday, pledged increased security for nontraditional networked home devices. It tasked the Department of Homeland Security to “test and certify networked devices within the ‘Internet of Things’.” It did not discuss any tension between the US’s twin cybersecurity and surveillance priorities.

Connected household devices are a potential treasure trove to intelligence agencies seeking unobtrusive ways to listen and watch a target, according to a study that Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society released last week. The study found that the signals explosion represented by the internet of things would overwhelm any privacy benefits by users of commercial encryption – even as Clapper in his testimony again alleged that the growth of encryption was having a “negative effect on intelligence gathering”.

The report’s authors cited a 2001 case in which the FBI had sought to compel a company that makes emergency communications hardware for automobiles – similar by description to OnStar, though the company was not named – to assist agents in Nevada in listening in on conversations in a client’s car.

In February 2015, news reports revealed that microphones on Samsung “smart” televisions were “always on” so as to receive any audio that it could interpret as an instruction.

“Law enforcement or intelligence agencies may start to seek orders compelling Samsung, Google, Mattel, Nest or vendors of other networked devices to push an update or flip a digital switch to intercept the ambient communications of a target,” the authors wrote.

Shooting the LMT SBR tonight with the PVS and I got constant FTFs. Never ever had that happen on this weapon.

I cleaned it and put 3-4 rounds through it a few weeks ago. Stuck a mag in it and it would fire maybe 2 rounds and go FTF with the bolt over the top of the round with the round half fed into the chamber.

Seems lubed ok but tomorrow I'll break it down and re assess.

On a separate note I think I need to adjust the Giessele trigger. I got a triple out of it and a double or two.

My patience is growing.

I was standing at the counter of the state park paying for my stay when a guy walks in with a bundle of firewood demanding a refund because it was defective.  " a ceramic log would have burned better, we used the fire starter (a wax and saw dust cup) and it wouldn't start. All we had for a fire was the fire starter."

This firewood I had bought the night before and had no problem with it. You can't take a wax fire starter and set it under a big hunk of tight grained live oak and spect it to burst into flame.

It was all I could do to not to say something pithy like " wow, that Eagle Scout badge came in handy". SMH. Got to get some smaller pieces off of it to get a fire going before you burn an 20 inch 4 inch diameter piece of hardwood....

Worst part was he was being an ass in front of his kids and wife.

It's those kind of people that won't make it with the fecal matter hits the fan.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Terrorism in America
« on: December 03, 2015, 07:43:02 AM »
I suspect that this thread will be growing in the future.  Its unfortunate but likley.

Regarding the San Bernadino shootings.

A federal law enforcement official said that there were two assault weapons found in the suspects’ SUV — AR15 style rifles. There were also two pistols found in the SUV. Investigators are tracing the weapons to determine if they were legally purchased, where, when and by whom.Officials said both of the dead suspects were dressed in tactical clothing and each had multiple magazines of ammunition attached to the military style clothing that they were wearing.

So Commifornia has the most onerous firearms laws in the country.  What do you want to bet that these peace loving muslims didn't have the low capacity magazines, "fixed" attached magazines, that are required by CA law?

There are three legal ways to own an AR-15/AR-15-type rifle in California:

Registered Assault Weapon

If the rifle was owned before Jan 1, 2000 and registered with the state, it is a Registered Assault Weapon (RAW) under California law. No new registrations are permitted. RAW rifles can have features which are prohibited in unregistered rifles. This category is the only one which allows for the use of the name "AR-15" on the firearm itself, which is owned by the Colt Manufacturing Company. California has banned the AR-15 rifle specifically by name. Therefore, no other rifles are legal to possess with such a name without having first been lawfully registered as an assault weapon with the DOJ. Otherwise, one is in felony possession of an unregistered assault weapon for which no legal remedy exists if kept beyond the previously granted DOJ assault weapon registration grace period.

This style of rifle is made by combining an AR-15 upper receiver with an AR-15 lower receiver which has not been banned by specific name, and which has a fixed, non-detachable 10-round (maximum, anything above 10 is a felony) magazine. In such a configuration, otherwise prohibited features such as a telescoping stock, pistol grip, and flash hider may be present. While formerly prohibited under the now-expired federal assault weapon ban of 1994–2004, the presence of a bayonet lug is not prohibited by California state law and can be present on firearms without violation. However, the magazine cannot be detachable, so to load the rifle the shooter must either "top load" or use a tool to release the magazine lock (such as the tip of a bullet in "bullet button" equipped rifles). To top-load, the shooter pulls the rear takedown pin, hinges the upper receiver on the front pivot pin, and loads the now exposed magazine. Alternatively, several "magazine lock" devices are available which replace the magazine release button with an inset pin that requires the use of a special tool to release the magazine, thereby, disallowing a readily "detachable magazine", to be compliant with California state firearms law.
Featureless Rifle

If a rifle has none of the prohibited features (pistol grip, telescoping or folding stock, flash hider, grenade/flare launcher, forward pistol grip), the rifle may be used with legally owned large-capacity magazines. There are several products available on the market to configure featureless rifles. The California DOJ Bureau of Firearms has attested under oath that the U-15 stock, the Hammerhead Grip and the MonsterMan Grip do not constitute a pistol grip and are therefore legal when used on a detachable magazine semiautomatic centerfire rifle with none of the features listed in CA PC 30515(a)(1)(A-F).[2]
Off-List lower receivers

Most AR-15 manufacturers now make lower receivers which qualify as "Off-List" Lower (OLL) receivers which are legal to possess and use in the state of California. With regard to standard capacity magazine devices, after January 1, 2000, it is illegal to offer for sale, import, manufacture, give, or lend (although it is legal to possess and use) any detachable box magazine with a capacity exceeding 10 cartridges.[3] Individuals possessing such magazines at a lawful location such as a gun range may only allow use of their lawfully owned standard-capacity magazines by another if they are in the immediate vicinity of the person using such items. All magazines acquired after (and including) January 1, 2000 must be a limited capacity of 10 rounds or be in felony possession of an illegal standard-capacity magazine.[4]

My part time truck is a 2001 LB7 CCLB Dmax LT with 37s, a 12 inch Full Throttle Suspension lift, Weld Cheyenne Evo wheels, Longhorn Fab traction bars, side dumped straight exhaust and PPEI tuned and a few other mods.  Its a long story, which I will gladly relay, but the bottom line is I can't really use it for its intended purpose with a loading height for the tailgate at around 50 inches.  The plan is to neuter it and replace the 37s with 35s and the 12 inch lift with a 6 inch lift.

Here it is with the drop hitch for reference,  IIRC that is an 18 inch drop hitch...and a picture next to the LML dually for size

Seems too good to be true.  Poster claims to be SSgt on a base with only access to email twice a day.  Boat belonged to husband who passed away and she's training for deployment to Afghanistan.

Claims the boat is at a shipping center in Omaha and she'll ship back on her dime if I don't accept it when it gets here.  Willing to run it through eBay Motors.

Obviously I'd like to inspect it or make sure it exists before sending someone $3k.

Any of our members close enough and willing to go take a look if she doesn't come up with some other excuse why I can't inspect it?  Would be willing to help with the expense.

Most Favored Companies / Old Fashioned Service Is Alive (re-posted)
« on: November 19, 2015, 05:58:32 PM »
When I bought my dually 2 1/2 years ago I had the dealer install the B&W Turnball system and the Companion Fifth Wheel hitch.  Its been a great hitch and I really like it.  There is a square post that fits into the gooseneck socket and the Companion slides over it and a single bolt on top torques it vertically and two U bolts affix it to the post.

Inexplicably when I went to remove the hitch last time the single bolt was very stiff and I could not get it out so I pulled the hitch and post together.  Later in the garage I put the impact to it and after much effort it came out with all the threads missing.

I always start it by hand and it was not cross threaded.

I called B&W without much expectation and was pleasantly surprised.

1. A live person answered the phone ( In Kansas, not India)
2. She was intelligent and helpful
3 She was able to help without transferring me
4. I asked her how to go about buying that piece and she said that she would send me a new post and bolt for free.
5. I asked her if I could pay for expedited shipping because I plan to take it out for Thanksgiving and she sent it 2 day fed-ex for free.

As a result, I am a B&W customer for life.  Well done B&W that is a lost and dying art.

So I can't vouch for corporate Christian values as I have not asked or investigated, but they know how to win a customer.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Liberal Liar's Logic
« on: November 19, 2015, 12:05:31 AM »
When speaking about dismantiling the second amendment, the liberals have said "If we can save one child we should take that step." and that congress should "have a debate and examine their own conscience"
http://www.breitbart.com/video/2013/01/14/obama-if-we-can-save-one-child-we-should-take-that-step/

So lets apply that same logic to some other high profile issues:

1.  If we can save one Kate Steinle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Kathryn_Steinle) by deporting millions of illegal immigrants and shutting down our porous border.....Nope. Liberals want millions of illegals to come and stay and continue to kill innocent people.  Cops, civilians and children have all been murdered by illegal immigrants but there is no outrage to curb that..

2.  If we can save one one life ( or 3 and another 264 wounded) in a Boston Marathon bombing by two muslim refugees sponging off our welfare system and being radicalized to commit a bombing....we should refuse any more refugees from Muslim countries....Nope.  Our Pathetic In Chief Oxygen Thief would risk hundreds if not thousands of lives bringing in Muslims from Syria that we have zero chance of fully vetting.  But wait! They are women and children fleeing the war torn region. According to the state department only 2% are military age males.  Nope 62% are military age men, just the type of radicals we need in this country to kill us from within.

http://www.redstate.com/2015/11/18/state-department-lied-press-syrian-refugees/

http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/americanattacks.htm

3. If we can save the life of one child by stopping the mass murder of Planned Parenthood harvesting body parts....Nope, The liberals are willing to shut the government down to preserve funding for the murderers of children

So the Libtard-In-Chief surrounds himself at the signing of the health care law taking over 1/3 of the economy by surrounding himself with children like Hitler used youth to create a perception of caring.

He also invokes children for political gain around gun control when it suits his purpose while ignoring dead Americans, childrens and unborn children when it suits his purpose.

If we employed his logic, we'd all be better off had his mother aborted him in the sand of Kenya...the life of one child...for the good of a nation.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Republican Debate

Watching the debate.  What's with these clowns like Kasich and Fiorina and a few others totally ignoring the time requirements and interrupting other candidates.  And Kasich not answering the specific question, but rambling about everything else.  And by the way Kasich, I heard you the first 3000 times.  You balanced the budget when in Washington...move on.

Cruz and Carson seem to be better at getting their points across and respecting the time limits everyone agreed to.

So, what's your maintenance schedule for brake fluid?  Age?  Mileage?

I try to do it every two years...not always that disciplined.

What's your schedule and the logic behind it?

If this was an attack with a firearm the handwringing would be intense.

Heard anyone say we need to ban knives?  or Muslims?

Knife Control Laws, anyone?
