heres the grain structure of 52100 steel with over 90% grain transfer. I broke the blade to test take a look at the structure because this 3/32” steel is a different thickness than I’m use to. This break is back in the handle area where I no longer focus on complete grain transfer due to a blade needing some flexibility so as not to snap during regular use. Judging by how fine this grain is, it’s safe to assume the cutting edge is sweet AF! It sucks to test your work, but as you know, it’s necessary to have quality control measures. Make sure you leave the blade “edge” thickness a little beefy to prevent the knife from warping in the quench oil. Basically get the edge clean and center and then dull it on the belt to the thickness of a pencil line before the quench

I use peanut oil and finish blades at a minimum of 120grit before heat treat. It all works once you get the recipe figured out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just trying to maximize the comfort of what I have because I like to tinker with used stuff I get. I need to be able to haul my boat behind the truck without looking like Tomas the tank engine going down the highway(I’d find a way to make that ugly lol). It’s a super clean 94 camper that was owned by a family that works on Campers for a living. It’s solid structurally inside and out and really doesn’t need anything other that personal preference, but I have a lady who wants certain colors of paint n fabric. Since I’m going to be doing all of that...I might as well mod it to best suit our needs. Picked it up for 2 knives and $150 cash. I got the 3500 24valve on a deal I couldn’t pass up also lol. I pretty much have a rainbow shooting from my backside at the moment instead of the usual where I curl up in a ball, cry, fight for my whistle, and find my happy place.
