Headed up to Cambridge today by train. Just now getting back to London. So far the trip has been good, good meetings, good food, fostering good relationships with colleagues on this side of the pond.
Had an extremely extravagant hot chocolate last night.

got alittle bit more done on the 80. i think the guy is selling the parts (dually 60, 80 and 205) to make room for more pieces so that’s kinda cool. should be ordering gears here pretty soon

went away from the massive E18 head bolts to some standard hardened bolts that hold
the rotor to hub for easier maintenance in the future

rotors got some overspray on then but will clean up with acetone once everything is back together.

i thought of that after the fact.. haha. next time. plus if not i nothing else it will keep them from rusting while waiting for install.

thank you sir. i appreciate the kind words. i just hope the gear install goes well and i don’t have any issues down the road with it. only thing i haven’t done before is truly setting up gears. for the 2 60s all i did was pull bearings off and clean/regrease them and reinstall everything. just checked backlash after install. hoping with some help from here and the inter webs i can get it sorted out.

I think you will find the gear install very challenging. The reason is the weight of that differential. Mine was next to impossible to get in and out given the close quarters, very heavy weight and the fact that is's a Dana. Considering that you have to spread the case just to get the diff in and out made it a no-go for me. I set up a 11.5AAM, but no way could I manage a D80!

this one sort of just slipped out. it was snug but not ‘spread the case’ stuck in there. we shall see though! i’m sort of anxious to get going on it. since that’s all i have left before it can go back.

Not doing a whole lot. Storm coming in. Not use to the snow coming in from the south east. It's blowing right in the cattle shed. They got a fresh layer if bedding a few days ago and will will get more as soon as the storm let's up. I like to see them covered in snow. That means they are warm. The snow acts like a coat. If they are wet they are cold. These are all Wagyu cattle.

Dana's are a pain, but not impossible. Keeping it steady is a big part. You can do it without spreading the cases, just tap in the interference shim after setup.

Hardest part is the pinion depth and rechecking it over and over. Be sure to keep the old bearings for that.

Dave this was contemporary dance. Choreographed by some dude from broadway in NY.  Wife said, don’t ask.

I prefer the ballet, especially since she is on point, but what ever makes her happy.

Congrats Charles you should be proud  :likebutton:

That clamshell bearing puller Tate sells is pretty handy. I have a case spreader but rarely need it. As long as you measured shims and locations it should get you close to start with. On used gears many times you need to move some of total shim pack from one side of carrier to other in order to bring tolerances (backlash) into spec again. I normally start there and keep pinion shim pack same unless pattern indicates an issue after moving carrier to tighten backlash. You want to be on the large end of tolerance specifications on used gears (Tate can give you the best recommendations there as what he normally advises me is wider than the manuals I have but must be acceptable otherwise he wouldn’t advise as such). When checking pattern on used gears go by coast side and you want to put about 50 ft #’s of resistance on pinion when checking pattern (may take two people) I do it but it’s a pia with larger diff’s. Edit: just realized you had stated new gear set.....

Just got me thinking...... maybe this is a sales tactic with Tate specifying larger tolerances on used gear sets?!?

Last summer I purchased another inverter for the camper. I have also acquired six 6 volt golf cart batteries. I have figured out how to run 4 in series parallel to get 12 volt. But I cant find anything on how to add 2 more. All the diagrams I can find either show 4 or 8 batteries. I will be putting this on the camper its self. In the front compartment. It is well ventilated.

I got the inverter on an online auction for $60. The batteries I got free. The cart quit working. I have been collecting battery cables with bad ends that we have replaced on equipment. I can shorten the cables and put new ends on. So I think I will be in this little project under $100.

My goal here is to run my fridge while we are going down the road and so I don't have to run the generator all day boondocking. However I will have to carry a battery charger and run the generator to charge them. Or if we hit a campground with power I can just plug it in. Wife likes to get a "real campground" at lest every other night. I am not going to go solar just yet. I want to get this up and working first.

I've had issues with the SD card not formatting correctly a couple times. Frustrating.
I wish I could get the camera on the tree, opposite the excavator, to transmit . It's pointed at the meadow behind the mini x.

Adding two more would give you 15 volts in series parallel .

Series is additive to voltage and parallel cuts it in half

Sent you a pm Jon. But basically you're just building multiple 12v batteries using 2-6v Batts as a set. So think of it as 3- 12v batteries instead of one big one.

Ken has it. You can parallel as many batteries as you want and still get 12v. Simply adds to capacity (run time)

Well Nate, you brought all the moving on yourself. I thought you retired and was going to enjoy life. I suppose you used the veteran's preference when you applied for the state job.

I sure did!....lol

Picked this up Thursday. Needs a few small adjustments and some of the welds look like the rice wasn't done all the way.
Nice, and handy.

Sent you a pm Jon. But basically you're just building multiple 12v batteries using 2-6v Batts as a set. So think of it as 3- 12v batteries instead of one big one.

OK I understand now. For some reason I was thinking I would get 18 volts that way. Because 3 6s in a row is 18. Thanks for the video link!
