Assuming you’re going to drop some coin to upgrade the strength on it?
-
i don’t think it’s going to be a crazy build. gears. u joints. maybe. stub shafts. not doing knuckles. it’s not going to be beat on in 4wd.
thoughts?
i know it’s a 5 stud knuckle and not 6. and the upper area around king pin isn’t as stout. but it’s not a wheeler.
-
Knuckles aren’t strong as you stated but if not abusing well then I suppose......
I probably would do stubs and Yukon lockouts though.
-
this axle has 3.54 in it. am i mistaken in thinking i’ll need a new carrier for 4.10..? going to get a new carrier for his 14 bolt rear (duragrip.. and his is currently 3.42) so that’s fairly simple.
truck will be running 35s so i think with the double OD from the 6 speed and 4.10 will be about right for it. it’ll have some light towing duties (guy owns a boat dealership) and he drives it 2-3 days a week currently as a 454/400.
-
Dana 60 carrier break is 4.10/4.56 you’re gtg w/ stock carrier
-
That's a good canvas bud. Shawn's covered all the bases here. And I know you're a bit of a perfectionist (understatement of the year) so I'd inspect spindle seal surfaces, spindle bearings etc when you're in there too. always stick with the lower series cases as you can always go thick cut gears but you can't always go regular.
-
You sure that '88 doesn't need to be a dually?
I'd offer to swap gears with you but my 60 looks like it was a found in a lake.
Right now I'm turning 1600 at 55mph, in 5th. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200414/fc032b5a0e2f62522a9c0922fec9ca85.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200414/e19a81891f881c8cddfe6aaa630981f4.jpg)

Turn the hubs down Ken
-
Turn the hubs down Ken
please don’t. just get some new SRW hubs.
and.. the ford dana 60 is reverse cut. lol
what gears are you going to in the ‘73?
-
I was thinking about going 3.83s. don't know yet
-
What size tire?
-
35s. I like the 4.10s it has now, but with the change in fuel choice.....

I wouldn't recommend using pine for the suspension. Laminate a bunch of willow together. It will give ya a better ride! ;-))
-
Dustless blaster looks like it’s doing a great job!
-
3.54 and that cummins are real good friends, even with 35's, but if you're pullin or climbing any hills you might want to just keep those 4.10's. what's the trans in this? Talking with Norm so much has 2200rpm at 60mph burned in my brain; if I had the trans I could run the numbers in whatever gear you want to try.

this is going to be turned by an LMM/6 speed allison 1000.
i’m thinking 4.10 and 35s will work well. esp with the double OD i the newer 1000s
..?
-
Wait, what? Norm likes to talk? Who knew?

Anyone else think they would have a problem with that blaster? I would have everything I own down to bare metal, just playing with it would be like when I get out the presssurewasher

It’s only a matter of times before you post pics of an “oops” and your frame, cab, and everything else laying in the vicinity are bare steel awaiting paint. Nice work!
-
Pretty sweet there Ken. And I spent 7hours behind the pressure washer yesterday....sheesh
