thought I would start this here, because we don't have a topic / area devoted to cars per sey. also, there has been some de-railing on a couple threads because of vehicles of this nature. if you posted something that could go in this area in another thread, could you please move it over here and delete those posts, if you need assistance moving the posts please let one of us know and well git er done.
now in saying that, I came across this gentleman's build on another forum and thought I would share.

I think the owner of the thread you're referring to, was the first to derail it...jus sayin'. :)

this is true..... ;)

Yeah I agree^^.
To my dads surprise I picked up a 69 mustang coupe a couple years ago. He knows I'm a die hard Bowtie guy, but there's something about that era, all brands theres a model or two on my I will buy given the opportunity to.
Has a 351W in it, and I'm not sure on my plans on it. Once I find time to determine if it's all original, that will determine the course of action on it.

If money was not an issue, what I would build if money was not an issue is completely different.

Besides the pre requisite Ferraris and such, a 458 Italia specifically. I would love to own one of these.

This, because I inherited one just like it from my grandfather and some oxygen thief stole it.

I had a FJ40 back a long time ago. That thing was stout from the word go. As much as I liked it I was not a huge fan of the inline 6. Of course rebuilding it in the driveway will do that! ha.
I love the new Icon versions. Would love one of these:

I had a 67 small back window. 327 4 speed. Same deal. It disappeared. Found it at a chop shop. There were a bunch of other stolen cars and a skid loader. Guy got probation. Wonder who He ratted out.
-
Too many vehicles I've seen lately and in the past that I'd love to have. Everything from 6.0s, 6.4s, 6.7s, 6.6s, 5.7s, Jeeps, Cars, and once I even saw a tractor that I thought was awesome. There's always something out there to catch your eyes, usually when you aren't thinking about it.

I learned to drive a stick in my dads FJ. I don't know why he ever bought it but he had a yellow 77. It rusted down to almost nothing and I told him I would give him $5 more than whatever price he got when he talked of selling it. It sat for 15 years at his place in MI rotting away and he had someone put it on eBay and sell it for him while I was away for work. He got $6500 for a rusted out heap that had serious electrical gremlins and wouldn't even run. The guy who bought it was on the east coast and paid $1500 to have it delivered to him. $8000 for a vehicle that needed a full frame off restoration.
When asked about my $5 over bid for it he replied you didn't want that piece of junk. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Yes..Uni's are freakin awesome! unless you have a bad back :(

Several vehicles I hate looking at:
Any Mog
International Scout II
Early Suburban
Crew cab square Dodge
Reason
I always want to buy one after seeing one...
-
This is as close as I will come, but I own it. Been mine for around 15 years. Just not smog exempt in Ka. Well over 400k, burns no oil but tired.
Already has a BNG 8.5posi rear, getting LT1 front brake, SSBC rear discs and Tubular front control arms (all in hand) Plus I have a 5.3 LS for it with all that is needed to bolt in.
Just waiting its turn,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
-
There is a guy around here with a few of these;
-
Pinzgauers are cool but way underpowered for the most part.
Here is my buddies radio wagon (full enclosed) parked next to the Lambo in the valet lot....
He also has 2 unimogs (no doka) and some CUCVs
Great to be single
-
Husker mine was a 76 in blue that my Dad bought new. But rust was insane with those things.
Ditto the comments on the Scouts and Mogs. So great.
-
I had a buddy who passed away who had 4-5 unimogs. Guess the closest I will get is my 6BT Suburban.

Yep. Made about 15 miles from where I sit. The vette they have is pretty awesome too. I'm trying to get a buddy who knows the shop manager to get us a tour of the faculties. Helps they have a drag strip in their back yard too.

Dad and I are shopping powerplants right now on the '69, so I guess it still fits into what we want to have? 1969 ss Camaro new touring suspension setup w/ tremec 5spd w/ small block in mind. Any friendly suggestions? I'm thinking 383 longblock, alum heads, roller cam/rockers, performance intake around 350-400hp is a the goal.

You really ought to consider the new LS engine over the venerable small block.
A truck 6.0 topped off with the LQ-9 square port heads and the Chevy hot cam makes well over 500 HP. And a ton of low RPM torque.
Those LSX series engines are really hard to beat, and cheap too if you cobble the parts together yourself!
-
Just re-ran the all new wiring harness but did not make any provisions for EFI; can these motors be run w/ carbs? if not, then i'll be focusing on the best of what I have to work with. if so, TELL ME MORE!
-
If you going non stock, just go with an LS1. It will drive so much better, no carb tuning and it is bolt in now even with EFI.
-
If you must have a carb (:rollseyes): http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-2908?seid=srese1&gclid=CMe-iKX-6MsCFcRgfgodnWkBdw
-
hey, it's dad's budget not mine, i'll run it past him worst he can say is no.
-
I thought the LS was a smallblock?
You can get a 572 crate.....720 HP and 685 torque....its not your budget after all.... ;D
-
Find an lc9 truck motor stock 320hp, swap a cam in and easily over the 350 mark. Won't break the bank either. It's a light motor alum block etc.......
-
You can get an LS motor with tranny for under 2K. Wiring harnesses are around $250, retro fit motor mounts about $50 (SBC to LS)
LS is a smallblock, but known as the old SBC. The SBC as it is known and still well used is a 1960's design.
The LS motors (4.3 to well over 6ltr) appered in the 97 and is the standard now. It is lighter, more powerfull and about the same size as the SBC.

I have the 5.3ltr (called LMM, 300hp) for my elky with a cam upgrade, injectors and tuning I am well over 350hp. Hooker makes a great cast exhaust manifold for it that flows as good as headers.
Get a 6.2ltr from a cadi and hold on!!
-
I will keep you all posted on his decision, and get some pics of course.
-
Tate, I have an extra 24v layin around. :)
-
Alright Ken. My Dad and stepmother have a place in Scottsdale. I'll set up a time and place and keep it for myself. any suggestions on the Camaro? ;D
-
I'd go LS no question Tate... the drive-ability and economy alone is reason enough. They sell them here for $379 at the pick a pull. Grab the engine/trans electronics and then with some help from the aftermarket, they are plug and play almost.
-
LS1 forums is a great source, been a member for years. They have nice FAQ section.

Check this out guys. This is what I have planned for one of my Studebaker "sleeper" trucks. Be sure to catch the clincher at the end of this article.

wow
-
That is simply unbelievable!
I have some LS history.
I owned a 1999 Camaro SS with all the goodies. The motor was making a strange sound after I added headers, so GM opted to tear it all down. When it was down I talked them into allowing me to send the heads off. I picked up a cam while I was at it and ended up with the 440 horse package.
That car turned scary fast all of a sudden. That 6-speed car could melt the tires in 1-2-3!
Next was my Z06 Vette. A 2003 with like 2,500 miles on it. It was making 405HP stock. So we did heads and a cam along with a good intake system and headers with cats. I can't recall what that thing made on the dyno, but on the street, and weighing in at a tiny bit over 3,000 lbs, it was simply a race car. I tangled with 11 second cars and put them away. He tuned it with a 7300 RPM redline which means to me, that is where the motor belongs. I'd routinely pull 140MPH in 4th, and fifth would pull so hard I worried about spinning the tires at 150+ MPH.
I think if a man took a decent 6.0 liter with some ported LQ-9 heads and a simple basic cam, it would start to make whatever you dropped it into a bit uncontrollable. I think 500-600 HP is at the absolute limit of streetability unless you like flirting with death (You are already flirting with diaster!) These days you can drop a carb on that and call it a day!
-
You are already flirting with diaster
Settle down Molly Hatchet!

Big D with 80's rock band long hair?!? Now there is a vision...... Rofl

Dude, in the 70's I was rockin a M-60A1 or an OH-58A model!
Not much long hair there...
Edit: Oops, you said 80's...I didn't actually exist, nor can I talk about the 80's ;-/

I understand, however the fact it came from Bobby & the idea of you as a long haired hippy tickled my funny bone this am
Edit: & I said 80's because I don't recall the 70's......

Thought about it, still thinking about it. I think it would cause XJ to fall apart, too much rust shaking going on at that point. 8)
-
Yeah Don.... the 6.0 with heads, cam and tuning in a 1987 Porsche 944 was nothing short of "super car" fast. And hardly for the feint of heart. I remember driving around a farmer friends hennessey cadillac cts as he went WOT so did I. Latter he commented he may have passed me but he couldn't see because of all the oil smoke from the Porsche. When I told him that was tire smoke I was peddling the car in third trying to hook up and finally just short shifted to 4th and drove away, he was quiet a minute and said...ok fine... I couldn't pass your $6000 beater, but the middle aged chicks dig my car LoL
Ken that link was awesome....
-
Yea,
I just don't get it how the LS motors are so doggone fast!
-
If budget minded the 5.3 (326ci LMM)has better heads than the bigger motors and they get swapped into bigger disp motors.
So the stock 5.3 is around 300hp and is a little taller than car motors. Sometimes the pan needs changing (mine does) to fit in a car.
Nice is the truck based motors (tall intake-better torque) are cheap.
-
Great article....really amazing how strong those are. I would not have guessed that by any stretch. Very cool. And as you say- perfect for sleepers.
-
Some amazing pulls from the little 4.8.
Kind of shocked it didn't grenade, but a testament to their strength.
-
Thought that you guys might like this one that came in this week. It's an Anniverary gold special edition. ..409...convertible. ..numbers matching. She brought 80k at auction.

2017 Power Wagon

What kind of truck is that Don? I cant quite make it out on the tailgate.....
;D They are sweet for sure!
-
Don, don't you need to get your powerwagon (SQD) running first?
-
and they let you touch it ken................?
I guess it helps when your the only one around that actually knows how to work on something like that.....;D
-
I bet you can get that with the diesel too.
-

Fixed it for you JR

LOL

You people are ruthless!
Square D is a "Power Ram" BTW, and I will get it running, and running well, just not enough time to spend on it at the moment
I have a sense that we are headed for some real trouble as a nation starting with the RINO convention. If that thing goes against the apparent will of the majority of conservative Americans, we are going to see trouble.
I'm seeing the setup for a perfect storm which rides right into a revolution with Martial Law and everything else thrown in just for the heck of it.
Therefore I am full speed ahead to get that hide up and operational.
Looking at it, it is clear that we the people are no longer in charge of our nation. Establishment Republicans are no better then Democrats who would be happy as peach pie to just hand the keys over to any fringe freak show that happens to ask.
If Trump continues to carry the popular tide, and the establishment Reb's continue to deny what they are seeing, then the conservative half our nation will be wrecked. You can clearly see what the Sanders and Hillary crowd are like. I'd describe them as militant. Rioters in Baltimore and Ferguson are all Sanders people. Wanna give the keys to them? The more conservatives come out the more they are brazenly fighting. It will end badly if Trump is maneuvered by some rule out of the process, when so many fed up american s desperately need him and are really hanging their last hopes on him making it.
So he gets pushed out, and the next Bernie group that shows up to show their ass aren't going to be given a pass. My guess is best case, many are beaten or shot to death. The police will arrest some trump people who did it. They instantly become martyrs. and give people teetering on the edge a reason to decide, now is the time.
I'm telling you, and mark my words we are standing on the precipice of another civil war...just months away.
Martial law will be called, crime, mostly murder will soar to levels never before seen, and our cities will burn. I do not think we will ever recover, we have been too weakened to survive as a republic. Folks, gonna be every man for himself pdq, and for that reason, "I'm out!"
Hide site, then fun...
-
OK, power Wagon: If things moderate out and we have time, I have a plan.
I want to buy that exact truck. Same color, same everything. Prob a fabric interior.
I purchased my big J-deere tractor on credit...sort of.
It was a zero percent deal, so I took it and have been paying on it every month, dutifully.
It's gonna get paid off either this year or early next. as i get maybe 2 months out, I'm going to place the order for that truck. I'll never get out of payments, but the truck will show up and I'll start grinnin'!
-
I saw a couple of those PWs driving around this area. One of them didn't have stock exhaust and sounded real nice. When I was wandering around the local Ram dealership, they didn't have any PWs that I found, and I wanted to check them out.

Oh just go buy the darn thing. But I just don't see you in a RED truck, saying here is Don. You seem more like the (when they see SD or Cmax) is who is that guy.
Yup, we have some problems ahead. Not sure if the Trumpster will bow out,but I would rather see Cruz. However I see no clear winner there and Ryan's name keeps coming up.

Ryan never campaigned, would be a RINO pick, thumbing their nose at the American people.
Any silly stuff like that is going to kick things off. People want trump. Just ask them, like most of them! Like Cruz or not, he is not the people's pick. He is not really liked by the RINOs. He is in play and getting support just to disrupt the trump movement. Kasik took money from Soros! Kasik is pro gun control !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trump is the people's pick. He had better be given the nomination or else...
I like that red truck. Almost reddish orange. Says, "I don't care what you think...and I really don't, to the pebes, and well it's just 70's..."
-
...... and well it's just 70's..."

I learned about a vehicle yesterday from a guy I met that I thought was pretty cool. And I thought of Koot and how this would be the ideal sleeper for Miss Kay....
The guy has a (63 or 64? I forget) Dodge Polara with a 426 Wedge. I never knew anything about the wedge and when he showed me the pics on his phone it was pretty cool.
These are just ones I found online but definitely would fall into that sleeper category until you lit 'em up.
I thought the offsetting dual quads and the way the headers come up from the manifold is very cool.
A 426 Wedge:

Nice! the intake manifold alone weighs more than most modern engines!
reminds me of my dads ol Dart with a 440.
-
There was a "Max Wedge" too - had two intakes the hung over the valve cover with intake runs to the opposite head with the intakes intertwining over the intake valley- square tubed exhaust that were wild looking too. Love old MOPAR stuff-

-
I think that one in the Polara is still considered a Max....any of them with a crossflow style intake.
Come on Mike, I'm not even a Dodge fan. :P
-
Sorry Ken- on too many "Max Wedgies" in JR. High I guess......caused drain bammage!
