Fireball Tool Hardtail Vise
« on: September 12, 2021, 06:13:38 PM »
So couple days ago I put down my $100 deposit on this bad boy

https://fireballtool.com/fireball-hardtail-vise-deposit-for-pre-order/

https://fireballtool.com/

Check out his Instagram account for cool videos of it

https://instagram.com/fireballtool?utm_medium=copy_link

And in case you were wondering, yes this monster will be getting its own stand that is bolted to the floor in new shop.

Once it comes in sometime next April I’ll update this thread with more info.

It needs its own stand imo, mounted to a bench is silly unless that’s the only place you have to do it.

Even at $1500 I think it’s a steal, second batch will run more I believe. Has to ship freight at 270# so that’s a couple hundred in of itself. So call it $1300, darn bullet vises of decent size which are nothing like this are $600 easy.

Glad I could help you spend moldy green stuff Ken!

30,747# of clamping force
I think their selling point may be the one thing that would keep me from buying one. ...a fine thread screw.
I would prefer speed over clamping force for everyday use. (Maybe?)

It definitely needs its own custom stand bolted to the floor. Glad I bought mine back in Sept of last year. As with everything the price has gone up.

So I located some surplus steel 8” sq x 1/4 wall tube relatively cheap ($50 for 3’) and had I not bought other steel just to have it would have been an inexpensive trip….

However, I also had the second base to a jib crane I don’t plan on building now and some gussets for that all from 1/2”. I added some 1/2” x 2” bar to fill in around the flat sides of the square tube. Then shimmed the 8” sq tube up a 1/4” off the floor so it’s not resting flat on floor only the round 1/2” thick base is on the floor where it will be bolted down. Finished it off by ordering a piece of 1” x 10” bar stock I’ll end up bolting the vise to up top. Plan is to get this built and blasted / powdered in semi gloss black.

So interested in overall weight when finished stand and vise.

Could mount or fabricate a tool holder of sorts on the side also.

Guessing the vise weighs 285# give or take 5#

That stand is 100# easy right now without top plate and I’m cutting top plate long then boring some holes in it for hammer handles. Top plate will weigh around 55# give or take after I bore holes in it and trim it up on corners etc.

So all in 450-500#

Thanks guys, I went back this morning and laid in another weld across top of each of the angle plates and down each end. After last nights welding there was an indent or low area that I thought would easily collect dirt and by filling this in there’s now no natural low area to do that. Granted my shop is always dirty as I’m ripping apart old axle assemblies daily.

That’s a nice clean weld. Not like the ones my boys are doing teaching themselves to weld.  But they are doing it and they’re making metal parts stick together.

Tell them to turn up the heat and wire speed if mig welding. Steady hand and let it eat……

Test fit the vise on the stand this morning. Then took stand and a few other small parts in for sandblaster and powder coating. Should have all that back in a couple weeks.

That is nice, and nice work. I keep a couple tools hanging off my vice, very handy.

For perspective, put a tool on it or a hand to see how really big it is.
