Last three paragraphs of this article sum up the whole thing imo

I still can't figure out why on earth we still have pennies

Because 99 cents looks like a much better deal that $1

Because it's all we have left from our checks at the end of Obummers term, especially if a Donkey is elected!

IF anything they should get rid of the 1 Dollar bill. I kinda like how Canada does it. With the dollar and 2 dollar coin. Hated it at first. But after a couple days I liked it.

I used to place them on train tracks to get them flattened...
10 cents worth of pennies would buy $5 worth of entertainment!
Oh, and they made good targets. Stick one in a glob of play dough and see who could hit it first

Should be a dollar coin instead of a bill, and ditch the pennies...
I think the pennies actually cost more to produce and keep in circulation than they're worth, literally.
-
Certain dancers would REALLY not support the dollar coin.....I've saved all my true copper pennies for scrap price of the metal!

I think I read somewhere that is cost $.02 to make one penny.

A lot like it takes $.70 to send a letter with a $.35 stamp...

Only because it is a government run program.

That is true. I offered one 4 quarters once. She didn't see the humor. I was out of dollars and the waitress hadn't come around yet.

This is just another step to a cash less society. If they eliminate the $100 bill then it will be much harder for individuals to keep large sums of cash out of banks. They are saying the reason is because it makes it harder for people doing illegal things to conduct business, but the real reason is control and tracking. Cash transactions leave no trace of what you bought or who you bought it from etc.

Did you know there are areas in the United States that honors other forms of currency?
Here's a list:

I have read that some of the new dollars are backed up with real gold.
Speaking of which, a gold and silver coin based system is just one handy inventor away from reality. More and more the people are taking matters into their own hands

That is very interesting thanks for that link. If they did do a nationwide backed alternate currency though how long would it take for the bankers to arrange some kind of regulation for it? Taking matters into your own hands when taking on the "man" usually leads to the man destroying you.

My thought is the market place will always:
1. Be smarter than the banksters
and
2. Come out with something new about as soon as an old system is regulated
My theory:
Excessive taxation and regulation causes smart people to become even smarter!
