I had something very similar in my 77. It was metal though and had a locking center section.

Mine was bolted through the cab and they included some cool break of nuts on a wand for mounting. Loved it!!

I had a set of the Yoko geolanders sometime back. They were just a tad large for my max but boy did they work great. Even ran them in about 6 inches of snow and they had great traction!

I know you like your aggressive tires though Don.

I have 55k on my Toyos right now, be looking soon too.

I understand all that Don, I get alot of the same training.

I think like many I am frustrated at what is happening and want to see someone do something before it really blows up.

(where's that head-band sticky)

Stainless and nutzerts work for me and will look good.

Ok, but the 14bt I have now is 67. If I add the drw hubs I get a 72in wms to wms, right?

But if I have spacers and have to run a standard H1 wheel I can, leaving the front and rear as is at 67in (+ the spacers) for a 72in wms. if I recenter the wheels.

Maybe I am making this harder than it needs be, thats why I am asking.

I am just a little concerned about running spacers all the time. They are alum, but so are many wheels. However they are billet vs cast for the wheels. 2 more spacers will run me $70. 5 centers run about $250, plus the work to mount em, maybe machine to true em up too.

Have you re-centered any Norm?

Kinda looking at it all, sorta a tossup. The "option" of grabbing almost any 8 lug and run it has an appeal, just as not recentering does.

With a little more research the front dually setup will be to wide. However the rear will work just fine. For the front I can just run the spacers I have and I could remove those if needed because turning would be an issue. For the rear, sticking out some until repaired would not be a big deal. Plus the tracts seem to be getting wider all the time.

So right now to run it I need rear drw hubs, axles are the same. To recenter, that would only apply to the truck, not the trailer or spare for it as the tract is not really adjustable anyway easy.

I am still leaning to running the H1s as is and do the dually rear hubs. for the rear discs, thats another thing I need to look at too.

Something just occurred to me and maybe you guys can help me out or even have them laying around to check.

So, I need spacers ( 85+ 14bt with 67in wms) to run the stock H1 wheels or I have to recenter the wheels because of 7in backspace.

If I went to dually hubs front and back wouldn't that allow me to run the H1 wheels as they are? Plus I don't need to get or weld centers to my wheels.

From what I am seeing the DRW is 72in wms to wms, so I would get what would be like adding a 2.5 spacer.

Not sure if the front is the same but that is why I'm asking.

13111
Lots of work don there BD. With the addition of the new bumper, the current snorkel and the roof rack. Seeing the thing coming at you or in your rear view will just be intimidating as H*&L.

Hmm, like the idea of the new intake elbow. Someone may have suggested it before,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just looked at my hood and I have a dent where louvers would cover it right up.

13112
I have seen those used on a few builds, good idea.

You know with the hood off you could just have added to your hood. But then again with everything else bolted on and hanging out on SD whats a few more on the hood.

Well, made a little trip as I stated down south and got a M1101 trailer, but mines Camo. For $800 and I got a spare tire.

Got the elky tranny in just before I left and a few parts came in also. Found all my lines and a set of internal hubs for the 60.

For the hubs I am going to use the electrolysis rust tank.

13114
Looking good BD as is the norm.

Jeusssssssss, just add a little fuel to hear it pop at least.

I was thinking ducting all the time too. Something right from the grill or off the side of the shroud? That way you get air fast or slow like the radiator.

13115
How thick are those rods for the cleaner. I am seeing carbon welding rods in 3/8in. Will those work or do you need to remove the coating?

Got my 60 hubs and they need a good cleaning, thought I would try that anode cleaner.

Closer to 3/4 in.  You don't have to use Carbon gouging rod, you can use rebar too.  The Carbon rods just make for a cleaner process.  The nice thing about electrolytic cleaning is that threads and other delicate surfaces will not be damaged.  Only the rust is removed.

Thx, I did couple searches and found that some were using rebar. Picked up some soda today and I have rebar so I am set.

Same color and year as mine!! This will be good.

I have the CTS to and love it. I used Idaho Rob and have a DSP5.

Do the EGR fast, there is alot of crud in there.

13118
Yes I have been hearing about this for some time now. Then as I was helping my son with a JFK report, I found this and wish he had;

13119
here is another showing the same 120* spacing for the gov-loc. Another pic showed you can see the clutch plates too without opening the case.

13120
I thought the 14bt rears were all 4 spider setups and you added a locker the the housings. I am no expert either by any means.

I have blown MANY 12 bolt (gm 8.875) rears but hear of few 14bt or 11.5aam doing that.

13121
You are making me curious to open mine up. I did some math too and the 4.10s might be OK, showing 1800 rpm at 70mph.

Looks like the 14bt gov lock uses just 3 spiders vs 4 of the open or locker, here is a pic I found, blowed up!!

13122
Not sure if mine is the stock coating, but thanks for the warning and I will take precautions.

The wheel wells are warn through and the bed scratches. I think they told me they paint/build to match the movie situation. I bet those tire have the run flat in them too.

Does that tower look familiar to anyone?

13123
Thanks guys. That is one good thing about where I live. I live at the hub of about 5 freeways and other ways out.

An hour from the SF Bay, but I go there little and avoid if possible.

6 hours from LA basin, they can keep that to but sometimes you need things and Dland is there for the kids.

2 hours from NV. Reno area is OK, Summit is right there as well as things you can't get here.

Then just an hour or so north it turns into more or less normal people, no fancy hair or piercings, you can understand them and guns are not out of place.

The kids love the 1101. I have it parked IFO my TH they can do as they wish with it.

Next it gets cleaned up some from all the tags, rewired for a 7 pin and the bed gets coated. As the trailer is all alum I think wear will be an issue. Heck just loading the spare tire and tying it down left a nice bright scratch. As wide as it is I think I will add a rail so things can side in and out without getting stuck on the wheel wells. Will run some angle on the rails too so things that land a little hard, don't leave there marks. That is easy too as there are thread inserts alone the entire top and inside rails. Another thing is the tailgate comes off like a truck.

I can also see a cover of some type and water tanks mounted under it, there is so much room to just not use it!

13124
After the flying we rewired the HF lights and I was off, getting home about 2130 an hour behind schedule as I went across the 58 to the 5 avoiding friday evening traffic on 99.

13125
That is my trailer in the last picture too, still had the GOV price tag of $8900 on it.

Stop at Costco in Palmdale for lunch.

13126
After seeing BD M1101 it got me to thinking along those lines too. I needed something easy to hookup and tow with lots of room and didn't break the bank.

Sure a low dump trailer is nice, but not for camping and they get pricey even used. So a little search on "searchtempest" and I found them on ebay for $800 to $2000. Well the $800 were just 350mi from here and near a friends house in Tehachapi. So a call was made to arrange which one since 5 were listed and they were both in tan and cammo. Its take your pick, so I did. The guy said bring cash, so I hope for a deal.

By the way if you use Craigslist at all (don't we all) try searchtempest (one word) It searches all of CL, adds and ebay based on distance, so you need to search each area and ebay at the same time. Sure it has a few adds but easy to navigate anyway.

Grabbed a pintle from TSC and HF magnetic tow lights and told the wife I was off to see a friend and would be back the next day, which I was. Had just got back from a fishing/shooting day with the boys and finally hit the sack at 0100. Got up at 0400 an was on the road with coffee little sleep (only had 4 hours the night before too)

This place was a way off the beaten path just east of the SIX FLAGS on hwy 5. The business does military movie props and sold off stuff as needed.

They have 7 of the trailers and said pick one, but not the last one (they were buried in a corner) So about 10 minutes later I say I will take the cammo that is next to last and we dug it out (forklift sure helped).

Got her hooked up and find the HF tow lights are wired backwards for brake/running lights. Its still daylight so whatever. So as I pay the guys I say you saved ebay fees and got cash, how about a spare tire. He agreed in about 2 seconds. So for $800 I get 2005 M1101 with a spare H1 tire/rim, plus they all are 12 bolt and match my 5 at home.

Head out and go through Antelope Valley up 14 and over 58 into Tehachapi. My bud lives in a little private area called Bear Valley about 9 miles out. Got a pass waiting at the gate for me make it to his place and kill the evening catching up on BS and drinking home-brew whisky. I did buy them dinner at the Golf Course first though. Needless to say I slept about 10 hours that night. Morning came and we had some coffee and ran down to the grill and got massive breakfast burritos.

Later i got the valley tour as the weather rolled in. Saw some pig tracks and finally found the local Elk heard. They didn't seem to mind us much, just no threat to them around up here. The farmland in the back is the San Joaquin Valley about 4500ft below us.

We then went and flew RC Gliders for awhile on a place called Convict Hill as it overlooks Tehachapi SP. Hands got numb so we came down about about 1/2 hour than had to fix the trailer wiring. He gave me a pint of juice and a pound of pig sausage and I was off.

Does the last picture look familiar??

13127
That blows Don. If they don't take it back or comp you big time you should get get a nice "class action" suit started.

Heck, do you local stations that scam stuff. Imagine if that got into the national scene.

13128
Great progress. Think I will use that raptorliner on my 1101 that followed me home.
You bought one...Cool!

Got a killer deal, will post in my build.

Little more searching today and picked up a set of injector lines and hold downs. Now I need the return line.

Also need front locking hubs and probably go with 35 spline axles. Also need a 2 wheel drive steering box for the crossover steering.

Going to stick with the stock 5.9 type mounts. So many ways to make the mounts and cross member for this.

Now I start thinking of how to make the power I want (400 or so) and go from there as I go through it.

Don, who did you use?

Widower Maker

13133
The pads are what I ran into with my 14sf for the 1500. The pads need to be placed right in the middle of the 2 pads shown and it is about 4 inches wider but that means my tires aren't sucked into the wheel wells.

That is great this will work with just a pads change, dual cylinder discs and slide off rotors.

13134
Don, not knowing if you found your fuel filter, here is what I did.

Fleetfilter will let you search for a filter by thread and application. Then you pick the quality and order as you may.

Norm, I got a set of hubs for $200 with free shipping,,,,,,,,,,,,now I need  ppump fuel lines.

Then I did a search and found a pair of internal front hubs for my Dana 60. The add on Ebay said for external hubs, but thats not what the picture showed, plus it had casting numbers on it. Did a little search and found they were for a D60 internal hub front axle.

Offered $100 each (by it now was 125) and got a yes in 10 minutes with free shipping!  8)  New these things are going for $250 plus and used are in the $150+ range.

I have a 1 inch hole drilled in the floor and the winch is mounted on a 1/4 plate. Got a rod welded to the plate and it slides in when needed.

When I first pulled it up the cummins was still in back. Got it unloaded then pulled the car up onto 4 inch blocks for the tranny swap with jack stand in the front. The 6BT is sitting here for now. I will build a new tray for it tomorrow so I can move it around better and store the picker again. Then I am going to mod my stand I made 25 years ago to handle a tad more weight and make it so I can spin the motor easier.

Then I picked up a new motorcycle jack from HF to help get it in. Nice thing is with the adapters, it holds a tranny very nice so us old guys don't have to bend over as much.

Working on the elky trans right now. Found a small valve body issue as I was about to put the new one in. (83 vs 87) Got it figured out, just swapping the valve bodies since mine is a V8 with a shift kit.

Getting it into the garage was fun but an old HF 2500lb lift helped me out.

Son was having a blast with his tank while I did this.

That is a Dana 44 front and a turbo 350 trans.

Non Ca legal headers (no air tubes) but it would be cat free.

20 gallon tanks, the transfer valves always go bad.

Wow, that works great!! I will need it with some of the things I have around here and I have some 30 gal containers that will work great!!

Nice find on the rear (and why I dumped my 70), guess you won't have to rebuild it!! Will the width be an issue or are H1 wheels going on?

OK, who makes a steering arm for the stock 4x4 box to do the crossover steering. This is done so much there has to be a non centered arm that will work without changing to a 2 wheel drive steering box!!!

Who makes those centers?

I found them during a web search, called trail worthy fab;

http://www.trailworthyfab.com/Hummer-Wheel-Centers/

Although a little thinner (.250") then what Don has, I like the style and they lock similar to a factory wheel.

On his site they are $65, on Ebay $60 OBO.
