Just a quick not on trailer coatings. LineX and a few other do coat trailers, but it is pricey. I think I will just go with a standard RV roof coating, most are warranted for 5 years.

That bumper does look awesome. Is there enough clearance between it and the body if a "murphy" moment happens?

Hmm, Murphy had to show up somewhere.

Great JOB though as I get more ideas for my Sub, God help me like I need more!!!!!!!!
Murphy was along for the entire ride unfortunately. That's why it took me darn near 2 months.

I'm sure you squeezed a little real work in the middle of that. But I know how projects can get drawn out.

That coating looks good. Tell me more about coating the trailer!!! Weather has turned and needs to get finished.

Here is a better pic of those now stowed out back. Look to be 80-90%  8)

Also a pic of the enters I am thinking of, but in 8x6.5. They are punched .250 and still need the miller to hold them on.

Some darn good ideas there and your rear bracing is why I have not mounted my Ruenel yet. I want to brace the back some and add lights!

Speaking of lights, I was looking at those flush mounted LEDs, what do you think? I have a couple of the 6x utility's but have not really tried me out mounted on anything.

You may get the front wheels off the ground when you mount that puppy  8)

Ah, and don't forget that the new cars now have a "black box" knowing everything and everywhere you go and how fast and transmits it. If you have onstar or its equal you are in the same boat. So the motor can be shut down at the flick of a switch.

On the onstar vehicles you just pull the fuse, not the newer cars!

Heck my 96 burb told the mechanic I was going 68 up a grade using 58% throttle when I blew the tranny in 2004!!! But they had to plug in to find it.

Yep, weather is just clearing up here so I need to finish the roof on mine.

I really like that Don and that tent siding is a good way to really stretch out. I think we all focus to much on the size and all we really to is sleep, clean and cook in them!!!!

I like all your ideas on it but put a nice big utility box in the front, you always seem to need stuff up there.

For the solar panels, you can get a flexible one that you just stick on top following the contour. I think they I saw a 150 watter for about $200.

These just answered a few of my questions in seeing the lines hooked up in earlier posts. Plus the last couple showed you have the same PS pump I have and running a "T" for the Brake/PS boost as I have reading up on it a little.

Luckily I do live in an area where farm equipment is used a plenty and many shop will build those hoses. Hopefully I will find a tech as good as yours!!

Great work as normal and looking good!!

To say that trailer was loaded tail heavy was huge understatement. It was pulling on the ball and I stopped every 1/2 hour to tighten it down. I finally bungied it and it stayed solid from then on.

Since the trailer had no winch, I blocked the tires and rug it up with the 5.9 in the back. It was tail heavy and the trailer was pointing to the sky for a moment, wish I had got a picture,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Trip home uneventful with no sway even with the tail heavy trailer.

It needs a good cleaning, injector lines and injectors. Has a turbo on it with a waste-gate and another without so that sorta offsets the lines. I was going get better injectors anyway. Has the trans adapter, starter and linkage too.

Hers a few pics of it, but first thing tomorrow I have rebuilt trans to go into the Elky (400k+ miles)

Don, if yours are sticking out you may have gotten ford hubs. That is what I am finding out.

The dodge and chevy hubs will crossover but the ford hub is shorter. All the other internals are the same with bearings and such.

Tate, am I on the right road here?

Thanks for the offer, I have to get one of those for sure but $55 is not breaking me.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / P Pump pickup adventure
« on: February 12, 2015, 06:28:09 AM »
Well, so I find a P Pump motor for the Sub swap just 80 miles from the house. Take my 87 elky to pick it up. Yeah the tranny makes a little noise and it needs rear brakes but I will drive it easy and be carefull,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

So going through Stockton and it lurches a little on the freeway like something let loose. I am a little over 1/2 way there and power is solid so I keep going. I notice the RPMs are up a little so i figure the lock up clutch is gone, no biggie.

Get the guys house in Salida Ca and look a the motor. About what you expect for a 300k motor, lots of oil! Oil is good, intake, exhaust and turbo looks good. Injector lines are gone as well as the injectors (replacing them anyway)

So I make my deal and we load it up, all goes well and I get a 2nd turbo and some other little extras with it. I go to get on the freeway home and click, the tranny lets go. I pull to the side and call for a tow asking how much to get me home (not AAA) and am told there are NO TRUCKS AVAILABLE and the one that will come wants $700 to tow me 82 miles. I say no thanks to that tow and say get me another, nothing, nothing and I call back and a told there is nothing. Now come on it is just 2100 on a Wednesday night I say, but nothing.

So up to this time I have been contacted twice by both CHP and the Sheriff telling them all is OK and a tow is on the way. It feels funny when I am being contacted watching all the rift raft going by. So finally after about 2 hours I have a ride in route to get me home and I plane to leave the elky at the guys house I got the motor from. He can't help as he had a couple beers so he won't drive, OK. Finally CHP come by again and I request a tow, which arrives in 20 minutes!! The chips and I shoot the bull for the 20 minutes and it runs me $200 to have the elky pulled 1 mile away, but I plane getting that back from the insurance company. My ride gets there 20 minutes later (77 year old mom, wifey with the kiddies)

So I get home at 0300 and now reserving a trailer to pickup the Elky with motor still loaded up tomorrow, about the same time my tires should be in so I may swing through to get them too.

I will continue this in the Sub Build thread and add a few pics,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I am a little tired right now!!

13175
Great progress and I have a story to tell in Ciemr and my build.

Good ideas on all but I would think along the lines of a Dana 60 in the rear. Dime a dozen, stronger and I bet you could find a bolt in with no mods.

Heck Don, my wife has trouble with left and right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Still in my search for hubs that aren't breaking the bank I found a 1994 6BT that is stock for $1500. Miles are a little high at 300k but I get a P pump motor from it. Even had a video of it running and showed over 40psi oil pressure at idle.

This will now go into the sub but I will freshen it up some. I figure a new head too since they are around $500, new injectors, bearings and maybe a hone with rings.

Plus I am upgrading my homebuilt engine stand to turn this beast using a worm drive setup I have seen in a couple forums. I will post that up too.

Nice find!! I am thinking of a P pump motor I found a couple hours south, just $1500 and it has video of it running. Only issue is 300k miles on it and cash flow with the taxes!!

Is there a 14bt going in the back??

Ever hear of the movie "Waynes World"

We can call it "Dons World" and he and Red Dog can have some adventures which seem to occur on there own frequently  :o

13184
That is a purdy old truck there. Another build would be great!!!

I would run good ol dino oil for the break in at least. Been doing some reading on how good the diesel oil is for about everything (but not vise versa) A lot to do with zinc an flat tappet cams.

As for the tranny on SD, just add the oil and crack an upper line and let it bleed awhile.

Looks like the dodge D60 is a go now. Besides being the same width as the 14b rear the spring pads are just 1/2in wider than the GM D60. That is doable.

Sweet, the forum is starting to payoff in real $$.

By the way, looks like the Dodge D60 will stay. It is the same WMS as the 14bt and just 1/2 wider at the spring perch, thats doable!

Now I need some internal hubs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

I was looking at that and thinking the exact same thing, nice work.

What about a 90 where it comes off the tranny in post 907. That loop looks out of place by that mount. JMHO

13191
FIRE IT UP!!!!

13192
Looking nice and I like the idea of "pull" to shut off. Wouldn't want to be bouncing around over a KIA or German bike and push the engine kill!!

Mount your pumps low and they should stay primed. Mine is high and now and then I get a little bleed off (filter head needs a rebuild) and have to prime it. Most of my fitting you see are stainless too. Bout the same as brass but looks better longer.

Ordered my tires and wheels today from a guy in TX. Told me they were 90+ on wear, all 5. You got to have a spare!!

Kum-Bye-Ya,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Did a little checking and found I am short a deduction for interest, but that won't fix it all. Also found we are in the 25% bracket now even though our AGI is just a tad over 100K.

Of course it is all for the "shop", just like my guns were all for work!!!!!!!!

Wifey was at home for the last 12 years, now it is my turn, but I get retirement. Hope this is just a bad year.

Well, sold the warn bumper so now it is kinda bare.

Looking to keep the Dadge Dana 60 now as it is just 1/2 inch wider at the leave spring mounts. That can be addressed easy with shimming, shackles, or offset centers.

Also the wheel mount is 2 inches narrower than the chevy so it matches the rear better!!

"WANTED" 2 dodge or GM front hubs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant see paying over $150 for these each!!!!!

13196
Got her burned in good with my 211 miller and all painted.

Now it folds flat and wobbles a tad less, so I can wobble more  :P

13197
Welded in the bushing after a good cleaning inside and out.

13198
So by just extending the upper bracket, adding a sleeve and a new 5/8s bolt we make it better.

Old vs new bracket;

13199
Anyway, my trusty 2 ton picker works fine. Has lifted about everything along with a few stumps in the backyard.

Problem is it doesn't fold quite flat enough to let me open the side gate.

Options were to rebuild the gate to open less????????, no.

Move the jack, not yet.

Modify the jack to fold flatter and make it stronger with bushings, yep!!

Speaking of boring. My boys and I just spent the night on the USS Hornet based in Alameda. A "kid" was giving us tours and I knew about 50 times more than him. He couldn't even name the planes he was standing next to.

Was still a blast and they had an old CH-34 like my dad flew before the Hueys.

Only banged my head once on a ship built for 5ft 9in on 6ft frame.

Somehow I saw boring somewhere and posted this, oh well, another DOT post,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 8)
