This would get you by without a large investment. ....might be similar to what JR showed you...pretty good price for 1hp and about 20gpm at 80ft.

Hand Tools, Power Tools, Welders, etc / Re: Compressor Problem
« on: July 07, 2016, 11:12:13 AM »
Don't know what the line is called, but I think that's the one that dumps head pressure to take the load off of the pistons . I'm with sam, should just be an o-ring in that quick connect. If it's the line, just use copper tube.
I've had to replace a couple pressure/contact switchs on my shop tank...easy to do if the problem is with the plastic itself.

Welcome Mr James! Most of us (especially stlaser) just puts on a good show, except for a couple rocket scientists on here.

You'll fit in just fine.

Thank you!

If it came to that...there's still room for a deer, and if I'm lucky enough to get an elk, the ice chest can be moved to the front. I purposely tilted the rear roll bar forward to allow use of a winch/pulley in a tree to be able to load game in the bed if I'm alone.

General Maintenance, How to/DIY projects / Re: Rusted rocker panels
« on: July 06, 2016, 02:16:08 PM »
No expert here, but some input until one shows up:
You really don't know how bad it is until you break into it, ie, start cutting it open, and once you do that, there's really no turning back. That being said, if they think they can at least stop it's progress and get it sealed up against further moisture intrusion, then that might be a decent way to go until you can afford to do it right.

From what little experience I have had with rust, it's usually been 10 times worse than what's on the surface...there's a reason they call it cancer.

General Maintenance, How to/DIY projects / Re: Dmax alternator time?
« on: July 06, 2016, 11:48:48 AM »
The clutch just allows the alt. to "overrun" which keeps the belt from vibrating (think one way sprag). It's normal for the pcm to ramp up output on startup....it makes things last longer.

...some of the older 7.3s took up to 15 seconds for the alternator to engage....don't ask me how many I replaced before learning about that one.

I can't imagine something like that.

...and man I'm glad we don't have any of that stuff down here.....I mean, no one I know has accidently tried to use a prickly pear for TP, or saguaro, etc. It's pretty cut and dry...if it is bad for you, chances are it has 2 inch spikes on it!

How's the granddaughter?

I usually douse the area with rubbing alcohol, after washing it with some Ivyblock or whatever it's called.

Yikes!

4863
Buckle it in on the second row duh!!

Raising boys into RealMen!!
This made me LOL !

Bob, a guy would have to get drawn first  before worrying about the little things!

The ice chest has my drinks. ....it STAYs.....I'll just talk the elk into coming by camp before shooting it.

Did your gramps wear shorts while working? No?

Notice what big D wears all the time, even when there's cotton moccasins abound? Like father like sons....the blonde one looks just like a mini Don. lol

4866
Thank You Guys!

final assembly tomorrow.

4867
While that was drying, I sanded down gramp's old shovel from the 60s....first it got satin black, then I decided camo tan might be better....might go back to black, not sure yet.
I found this old can of oil stain and used it Clintonee on the handle (liberally :) ):

4868
Everything else received a color matched coat (a metallic tannish brown):

4869
This weekend was prep and paint...uh, I mean bed line.
First, sanding all of the crappy welds, and everything else:

Then, where a smart person would use acid etch, I didn't.....straight to coating the roll cage, bottom, and front black:

4870
Next, I took a page from the BoD (Book of Don).

...shovel mount. A little difficult with aluminum, but here's my version:

4872
The spare tire will reside in between the 2 roto pax jugs. I put a solid bar in the press to give it an upwards curve, then helicoiled the bolt hole, since it's aluminum and I worry about the threads corroding:

...and welded it in:

4873
These showed up just in time (Don, you're a bad influence!!):

...and some plates were welded in to mount them:

4874
Another bar was fabbed for the rear (no pics) and I borrowed this notcher to make 4 pipes to join them together:

here they're all welded up:

4875
...and started bending some 1 1/2" thick walled T-6 tubing:

The criteria was that my #1 ice chest had to clear when opened:

4876
I didn't want to mount the pedestal to the floor, because my shop doesn't have the room, so I cut apart a perfectly good hitch and welded it to the tractor....portable and adjustable I'm thinkin'.

4877
I could have called it done at this point, but decided to make it a little more complicated....I wasn't thrilled about the fact that my spare tire holder couldn't be used at the same time as the gun scabbard so an evil plan was brought to life.
First up, a new (used) tubing bender:

she's a bunch bigger than I thought, and also a tad fat at 225 lbs without the dies installed:

4878
Up next was the tie downs that will be run along the bottom, through the tubes, from front to back. it's made from 3/8" rod.
These brackets were made for extra support:

4879
For the latches, I milled down some square stock to slide loosely into the top tube on the tailgate. I made some soft "compression" style springs by winding some stainless welding wire around a long bolt. Some slots were made under the tube for some 1/4" bolts that are screwed into the slides, then some holes were drilled for roll pins to act as spring stops.

The milled bar stock:

...after cutting it off and beveling it:

...bolts screwed in to act as handles:

...and finally assembled with the roll pin pressed in to keep tension on the spring:

Yeah, it's rained heavy a few days in a roll at the shop, but barely sprinkled at my house 10 miles away. It's a little weird to have that much before the 4th, in Casa Grande.....you guys down south seem to always get it well before us.

What are you building? / Re: cutting rafters
« on: July 02, 2016, 06:12:56 PM »
If it's this style, I wouldn't cut anything before going darn near full length with a sister....the roof weight (especially if it's tile) will push it down some as soon as you make the cut...maybe not much, but enough to possibly crack the drywall underneath if it's not near an internal wall (don't ask me how I know :( )

and like JR said..use screws!

That's a good enough reason I suppose.

I was going to ask if the other end was supported, but even if it wasn't, I would think that it would take years to fracture a shaft that size if it was good steel to begin with.

I think yeti rode the wave as long as they could, now there's too many others doing the same thing.
...haven't heard of Engle, might have to check it out.

I'll have to agree with Nate on the toughness of the steal colemans (I inherited mine from my grandfolks...from the 70's), but if the sun hits it, the ice is gone in no time.

RTIC, and Sportsman...those 2 are less than half of a Yeti . I never spent more than 50 on a cooler until I got the sportsman (Sams club) and don't have any regrets.
Drinks will slush up in 100* weather....my other coolers wouldn't do that

Pretty fancy!

My fort never had a nice floor.

4899
That Rockwell is absolutely the best clamp/vise/sawhorse I've ever used.

JR, the bubblegum welds?....that's all TIG. I found out that 3/16 plate is a little much for the 210. If I spent time to preheat, it worked well, but I quit preheating because it was a pain. I should've broken out the 200a spoolgun and wham bam it would've been done 4 times faster....but I wanted to learn how to tig on something of mine before doing it for customers.

Don, my tables aren't flammable!

4900
Somewhere along here is where my ADD kicked in..
..the whole TIG thing was fun at first, now, not so much. Where was I, oh...
When I installed the turbo, I used an aftermarket muffler that came right off the back of the turbo, and ended even with the original bed.....well, now it's about 5" too long. I trimmed the inlet pipe about an inch, but wasn't enough..so...the rivets were drilled out, a few inches lopped off, new rivots added, and now it's all good:
