Looks tidy, Nate. Tell me about the plastic jar boxes/holders? I need some of those instead of just using the cardboard
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
they are called jarbox. it has a top and bottom, they are available in both pint and quart options, they provide a little space between each jar so they dont break when clanked together or for those that dont like to use the bands (why? i dont know?) they also provide protection from the lid getting jammed and becoming unsealed, they also allow you to stack several sets on top of each other and retain structural rigidity so they dont collapse. those things are awesome and truly do work and provide protection, i have moved filled jars from hell paso to WA to lincoln in a trailer with absolutely no breakage. they also work great when carrying them from storage to processing area and back as well as provide blockage from uv rays that can cause spoilage. good luck finding any right now, as with any thing canning related they are sold out everywhere and the ones that do have them are trying to price gouge them for 5-6 times the original cost. when in stock at walmart, the pint cases are like $10 and the quart are like $12.

I had to do some re-arranging of the food stores area along with the equipment storage area.
All thats left of the storage room is the area for the gun safe and ammo storage.

did you get lucky and have an open floor joist span that you could run the wire, or did you have to drill a few holes and run the fishing tape/pole?

So what is/was the purpose of having the rear axle shorter than the front?

That's awesome. Id love to have one I could stack. But with several smaller caners I have my process down where I can rotate them. I get one batch in and start on the second. By the time the second is ready the first is half done. So I get a 3rd batch ready about the time the first is done so I reload that one and so on. I have non stop jingle jingle in my basement all afternoon.
There are a lot of times I end up with a batch and half. Having a big one like that would be very handy.
Jon, dont sell yourself short....you have a damn good thing going on with your set-up! Looks like a scene from breaking bad is fixing to happen... but a redneck version.
Sorry Nate... was the first thing that came to mind.
I have never actually seen that show even though it was filmed just north of me when i was stationed in hell paso.

Got word today that my 30qt all american canner has a tracking ### and it will be here wed!
It was ordered 1 aug 20
The 30 can handle two qts in depth right? I think we have the 21qt. Plus an older mirro 21qt. Sure are nice to have when processing cases of jars! That 30 will be great addition to your food tool collection!
You are correct and that is 1 of 2 reasons why i saved to get this one. The other reason is that i dont need a rubber seal for it. The size and weight is not that big of an issue for me, as i run it on my low pressure burner outside. And as back ups i still have my 16qt presto and 22 qt mirro (1960ish vintage). Got word today that my 30qt all american canner has a tracking ### and it will be here wed!

Pressure canner?
Correct jon. just like anything else canning related, there is a huge back order of these. At the time i ordered it, it said i would get it 1 nov 20 which was ok since i still had my other 2. Looking at times now, i have seen statements saying aug 21 already. Heres info on the canner: https://allamerican1930.comAnd heres where i got mine from: https://www.allamericancanner.com/All-American-Pressure-Canners.htm

Had to make some modifications to wendys plant stand to get it ready to start tomatoes, bell peppers and hot peppers from seed in about 1.5 months.
Also, the sad state of the meyer lemon tree gave motivation for the conversion.

Yeah, a few years ago a couple did practice guns runs on me. Quite exciting to have them dive straight down on you and pull up at the last second. Thank God there wasn't a Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Imagine talking to them on the radio with live ordinance onboard and at your disposal......

Bobby you should come out and shot a match some time. I am hosting a couple matches this year that I won't be able to shoot in; would be more then happy to lend you my rifle, ammo, gear etc... Also, if you sign up and shoot a WPRSC match they have a very nice loaner rifle, they let you shoot if it's your first match. It's a lot of fun with an awesome group of guys. All these matches are open to the public and you can come spectate if you want.
The challenge has been laid out

A blender is one way to do it, but i have a small food processor that i start with and then moved to a spice grinder to finish it.

8 hours later, i got about 2/3 cup of tomato powder. I started with roughly 3.5lbs of roma tomatoes. I think i could have let it run a bit longer, as there are a few bigger chunks left.
Now i just have to get some oxygen and moisture absorbers.

Interesting Nate, so what’s the intended goal? Just to be able to process more garden stuffz or as a way to put more long term foods up?
Both actually

Well, here goes nothing!?
For the inaugural run, i am Dehydrating tomatoes to make tomato powder.
31
« on: January 02, 2021, 09:41:26 PM »
So I settled on an STX International Dehydrator that has a 1200W coil. It has 10 trays, all stainless steel and a detachable coil/fan assembly.
The 16oz water bottle is there for size comparison, and this thing is BIG!
The first thing i am going to try is roma (or plumb) tomatoes to make tomato powder.

I have litterally spent the last 3 days on the road. I went from nowhere, SD. to home, to turn around the next morning and head to NW Wisconsin for a funeral tuesday morning, and right after that to make the return run back home. Should i mention the hissy fit code my truck sent because i made it breath 0 deg temps which cost me $188 to have it thawed, code cleared and has to put the front winter kit cover on.....that was all during the funeral. Then the 8 hour drive which normally takes 6.5hrs through the nasty storm that just smashed the upper mid-west. Lots and lots of moronic scared drivers in the ditches. Ol black betty never blinked an eye with 1K in the bed and the tires aired down to 60-65psi.

All scorpion. Oil and garlic and vinegar
1/4 tsp in a big bowl of beans is hot.
She grew them this year and brought me some seeds

Yea that would be spicy! Scorpions are something to the tune of 1.7-1.9 million scoville. We grew them once, in AZ.... next to our jalapeño plants. Certainly turned up the heat on the jalapeños!
Both of you need to go sit in the corner and counsel yourselves.....whats next, you need to use the other bathroom?

Nate, how big is your exercise room? I’m planning to build one about 10x16 in the garage and wanted to see how big yours is for perspective.

13' 6" x 14' 8"
Before you build one in the garage, find whatever rubber flooring your going to use and build it to that size so you dont have to cut the flooring to match.
Didn’t think of that about the flooring, thanks for the tip. I can build it whatever size I need, the garage is only 6000 sqft, so I’m flexible. :)

Dave, just be prepared for the cost of the equipment right now. The supply system that was never designed for this massive demand is hanging on by a single thread. I have a line on a lot of equipment, most of it is up your way, so if you need some assistance i can help you out.
I’ve got some of what I need for now, need to pick up a new treadmill, a mouse took a sauna on the Control board of the old one and treated me to a whiff of burnt ozone. Besides that I just need a bench and possibly an elliptical so one person can do treadmill and the other can do elliptical. I’ve got enough free weights to last me until the burgeoning market turns into a glut of used gear and I can pick it up at a better price.

Picked this rack up for $100. Just like everything else exercise related....people are jacking the price up 3-4 times the retail price. People are even trying to get above retail for some really beat up equipment...
